How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewCentral Had a pool and a great breakfast
Construction around ( but that’s everywhere )and a very annoying light that lit up our room all night 401
Dear Kylie, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We’re happy to hear you enjoyed our central location, refreshing pool, and appreciated the comfort of the air conditioning — especially during the warmer days. It’s also great to know that our breakfast met your expectations! We’re sorry, however, to hear about the disturbance caused by the light in your room and the surrounding construction. While, as you mentioned, construction is currently a common sight in the area, we understand how important a restful night's sleep is. We’re looking into the lighting issue in Room 401 to prevent it from affecting future guests, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon for a more seamless and relaxing stay.

Smells like mold in the bathroom and the carpets in the hallways are very dirty and very smelly
Dear Eva, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re glad to hear you found our rooms clean and comfortable — it’s always encouraging to receive positive feedback about the quality of our accommodations. We sincerely apologize, however, for the issues you encountered regarding the bathroom odor and the condition of the hallway carpets. This is certainly not the standard we aim to uphold, and we take your comments very seriously. Our housekeeping and maintenance teams have been informed, and we are taking immediate steps to address these concerns to ensure a more pleasant environment for all our guests. We truly appreciate your honesty, as feedback like yours helps us improve. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back and provide a much-improved experience in the future.

Verified reviewBreakfast was very good! Room was clean and staff very helpful.
Very dark (no natural light) and too small room. The main entrance had stairs which we had to go up until the reception.
Dear Marios, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed our breakfast, found your room clean, and appreciated the helpfulness of our team — your kind words mean a lot to us. We’re sorry to hear that the room did not fully meet your expectations, particularly in terms of size and natural light. While some of our rooms are more compact due to the layout of the building, we understand how important comfort and brightness are, and we’d be happy to assist with alternative room options for any future stay. We also appreciate your comment about the stairs at the entrance. Please know that our team is always available to assist with luggage, and we’re continuously looking at ways to improve accessibility for all our guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide you with an even more enjoyable experience.

Verified reviewJL Hotel is in an excellent position in St. Julian's. It is a few steps away from all the night activities, Mercury tower, shopping, necessities, bus stops and even a rocky beach. I love how it offers peace in such a busy place. Once you get there, you will understand. Continental breakfast is aprpeciated, consistent and staff are pretty nice. The pool is cute, good for an early swim and sun bathing or even at sunset time. Just be ready to carry your luggage on a few flight of stairs to get on the reception. I love that they offer you support and help your requests. Would recommend! :)
Dear TL, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at JL Hotel and that our location gave you the best of both worlds — close to the vibrant energy of St. Julian’s, yet still peaceful and relaxing inside. It’s great to know that you appreciated the continental breakfast, the rooftop pool atmosphere, and the helpfulness of our team. We're especially glad that our staff made you feel supported during your stay. We understand that the stairs to reception can be a bit of a challenge, and we truly appreciate your patience with that — thank you for highlighting it in such a kind and understanding way. It means a lot that you'd recommend us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon!

Verified reviewThe location is the only positive.
Room 204 was a big disappointment — bad smell, no coffee machine as advertised, no hot water, barely any light, and a view of a wall. The reception looked like a bar, carpets were dirty. We reported the lack of hot water and missing coffee machine to the receptionist and asked either to fix it or to give us another room to shower in before our flight — nothing was done. When we returned, no one was even at the front desk. We were lucky to stay only 3 nights. The quality does not match the price. Avoid room 204, and better yet, avoid the hotel.

Verified reviewExtremely Disappointing Experience – Avoid! We arrived at JL Hotel at 15:00, right at the check-in time listed on Booking. To our surprise, we had to wait 45 minutes to be attended to, only to be told that our reserved room had been given away by mistake. Instead, they attempted to relocate us to G Hotel, which has a significantly lower rating on Booking.com and was clearly not a comparable alternative. To make matters worse, the room at G Hotel smelled strongly of mold, making it completely unacceptable. We refused to stay there and ended up booking another hotel at our own expense. We have since requested a refund through Booking.com, but have not received any response. This experience was not only frustrating and time-wasting but also cost us more money. Would absolutely not recommend JL Hotel. Poor service, no accountability, and a total disregard for customer experience.

Verified reviewThe room was clean, modern and very silent (no noise from any neighbours ). I loved the breakfast view from the terrasse ! And breakfast was easy but very good! Fresh orange juice everyday! Staff was pleasant. If you are here for a party trip you’re in the middle of everything - and this would be great!
I did not like the black hallway! There is no lights nor windows. The hallway is painted totally place and you have a pink light.. so you feel like you are in a brothel If you are in Malta to experience culture - I’d rather stay in silema, Valletta or the three cities!

Verified reviewThe location is good, if you are not renting a car. Hard to enter the area in certain time during the day and find a parking. The breakfast is a good option.
The reception staff doesn’t speak english. They closed our room 1 day before check out, so we didn’t get a cleaning, we couldn’t able to enter the room. And were not able to provide clean towels at least….. deply dissapointing. the room is not soundproof, the clubs are in the street. Not worth the money.
