How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I have been a loyal user of Booking.com for several years, but this trip to Malta was an absolute nightmare. While the check-in process went smoothly, the experience quickly deteriorated on the last night of my stay. I received a shocking message from the landlord demanding a 70-euro cleaning fee in cash, despite having already paid this fee through Booking.com. Confused and frustrated, I immediately contacted Booking.com customer service. They confirmed that the landlord's request was completely unfounded since the cleaning fee had already been paid through their platform. They assured me that I could ignore the landlord's messages and that they would handle the situation. I relayed this information to the landlord, thinking it was a simple misunderstanding. However, what followed was a barrage of harassing phone calls from the landlord. He ranted about Booking.com for over 10 minutes, dragging me into an issue that had nothing to do with me. He insisted that I still needed to pay the cleaning fee or he would have to pay taxes on it. This was incredibly stressful and infuriating. I couldn't believe that I was being subjected to this harassment, and it made me wonder if he pulled this stunt with all his guests or if it was because I am Asian and English is not my first language. After the call, I received INSULTING MESSAGES from the landlord, further adding to the distress of this horrible experience. This was a horrendous experience that no traveler should have to endure. To the landlord: Paying taxes is a duty for every citizen in the world. Your behavior was unacceptable and unprofessional.
why dont you tell everyone you brought your boyfriend with you when instead you booked just for yourself and i let him stay with you till the last day without extra charge... huh? i also sent you the video of my profile stating that cleaning fee is not included in the price... and ill post it here for everyone to see. (tried attaching but not allowed) you are also trying to make this a race issue... clearly wanting to harm my 9.9 score. people are not stupid, i have 9.9 for a reason. booking.com is also to blame for their incompetence with this issue. Verified reviewVery nice apartment, super central location in St. Julian's but the apartment is still quiet even though it's quite busy in the neighborhood. It's even nicer than the pictures. The living room and bedroom are airconditioned well and there are two full bathrooms, which is great. There are lots of restaurants, stores, and easy access to public transport and easy to get an uber or Bolt from there.
The apartment that shares a wall with the bedroom is under construction, which would start pretty early in the morning. However, it wasn't too loud and wasn't constant, so it wasn't bad, especially if the air conditioner was on you couldn't even hear it. A lot of Malta is under construction so it's probably unavoidable. It wasn't an issue with our stay.

Verified reviewThe location of the house was very comfortable. I came for a month of school. However, when I wanted to participate in extracurricular activities, transportation was very easy to everywhere. And it was very good that there was a sea close to the location of the house and there were many cafes, bars, restaurants and markets for shopping. The house has a natural appearance and is completely gray and white, giving peace of mind. When I had a problem with the house, the owner was helpful and quickly solved all my problems. Also, I was very happy that there were no problems when I wanted to leave a little later than normal due to my flight being late. If I were to come again, I can say that I would definitely choose this house. I have seen many places in 1 month and I can sincerely say that this house is the most beautiful.

Main bathroom locked for duration of stay.Building work taking place in adjoining apartment from 8am every morning Monday-Saturday,3 shopping bags and kitchen roll taken while workers in the apartment when we were out,constant messages from owner in regard for access to apartment for work to be carried out while we were staying there
1st You forgot to mention that We allowed you a complimentary early check in at 12 instead of 15.00. 2nd at the time of your you booking the apartment the description was 1 bedroom 1 bathroom, which is the spacious ensuite with your bedroom. You were not entitled to a 2nd bathroom. 3rd you were advised about the curtain replacement works and i was with the workers the whole time and nobody took any shopping bags! I also kept you well informed as you described. Regarding the works next door i have no control over those and you never even complained to me while you were there, so why mention it now? Anyway those works are done now and im glad.
