How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewBrilliant location ! Very clean and comfortable rooms . Interesting traditional Maltese breakfast with very tasty coffee . But if you not a fun , continental classics like roast , ham or tomatoes and cornflakes were available as well.

Verified reviewEven though the hotel was right in the centre of the city, the room was very quiet and peaceful at night. They offer Maltese breakfast and tea experience in the afternoon in their roof top terrace, which was included in our stay and a great experience. They also provided us with a cot for our baby as requested.
There was no windows, which is good to avoid the noise, but it can feel like in a cave sometimes, especially during daytime. The sink in the bathroom is a bit tiny.

I LIKED ALMOST EVERYTHING . These are NOT COMPLAINTS, but there is no neutral comments section. This is no fault of the hotel, but parking in Valletta is a problem and can be an issue if you are planning to come and go, have a lot of luggage, mobility problems or similar. The rooms are very small and the bathroom entrance very narrow and with a very heavy fire door. There was no proper handle on the inside and I found opening that door quite difficult and broke a couple of nails in the process. The locking system on the room door. is very low, the keys very small and the light very dim ( though attractive). I found it quite difficult to use and often had to try more than once. Breakfast on the roof is extremely pleasant, but if you want to eat at 8.30 rather than 7.30 some shade would be much appreciated. The following is a JOKE on me. Coming from Seville, when I booked a room with a balcony, I imagined a space to stand, or even sit, enjoying the view. When I was shown the room, I asked « But where is the balcony? » « In the toilet » And it was - a tiny charming balcony next to the WC.. What I should have asked for was a Maltese balcony - the glazed in windows built out over the street that are typical of Maltese architecture. Next time!

Verified reviewLocation, style, all the amenities such as the complimentary minibar and afternoon snacks at the rooftop. Turnover service and the extra detail they had about the anniversary celebration we were having.
Our room had only one indoor window that was not giving a lot of natural light but since we asked for a quiet room we understood and it's also a historical building so distribution constraints on the spaces are normal.

The Comfort room, same as the one you booked, offers peace and tranquility, away from the bustling sounds of the city. The rooms on the front side of the hotel, the Presential square view rooms, offer balconies to the outside area. All as per description listed on the booking platforms. The breakfast left little to be desired. Paper cups and unwieldy plastic plates. The terrace was too hot and sunny in the morning as there was no shade. We decided to head out for breakfast at our own cost. Some of the staff didn’t seem happy to be working there. Not very helpful at all.
Dear guest, It's the type of review that we expected from your side, as you had already informed our receptionist that you would do us a bad review, because we couldn't accommodate your request to keep your room after departure time on the day of departure, that is, after 11am. After this instance, your attitude with our receptionist was extremely rude. Being a boutique hotel, with a limited number of rooms, we can't offer late check-outs, as rooms, on majority of days, are always booked. Our rooms are thoroughly cleaned on every departure, a cleaning procedure which takes more than 50 minutes per room. Regarding the breakfast, we don't use paper cups but recyclable cups, as part of our sustainability commitments. One of HPM's sustainability commitment is to reduce on the use of water and electricity. It has nothing to do with cutting off costs or because we are on a budget. It's the opposite in reality, it would work out much cheaper, for us, if we use normal glass cups and wash them. It's a practice (one of many) that a number of hotels are adopting, as part of their sustainability journey. All details are listed on each breakfast table and within the escalator, and in other common areas. If we were on a budget, we would not offer complimentary mini-bar to our guests, complimentary roof terrace experience including free food and beverage, complimentary turn down service, more than 75 TV channels and much more. Regarding the staff, I can assure you that they are more than happy working at HPM, majority of which have been working here since our opening day, always performing to their best. That is why they are highly rated by our guests. Thanks HPM.
