How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOur stay here was truly memorable thanks to the warm hospitality of the Boxman family. The apartment is a traditional Maltese semi basement, equipped with modern amenities. The hosts were thoughtful enough to provide extras like beach mats and towels, and their useful local tips made it easier to explore the area. The location couldn’t be better: just a few steps from the Isla bus terminus, a short walk to the Valletta ferry service stop, and also close to the small beach at the tip of Senglea.

Verified reviewGreat host, they arranged picking us up from the airport and back. Had a nice chat. Apartment is comfortable and clean with all necessary appliance. Wi-Fi was good. Retro look. Beautiful location. The bus stop is near and the ferry to Valletta as well.
It is a basement (damp smell occasionally) so if you suffer from asthma, you should avoid it. Tip: not a lot of options form parking next to the apartment so use a public transport or taxi if you want to stay in this area.

Verified reviewWe did like location, size of the appartment, othentic style and cleanliness.
Stuffy because there wasn't air circulation, noisy from the road bumps and very squeaky bed, also the aircon in the bedroom was turning off every 20-30 min so that made very uncomfortably hot night. .
We would have greatly appreciated it if you had communicated your concerns during your stay. We could have explained that setting the A/C to a constant low temperature of 16°C causes the unit to automatically switch off for safety reasons. Additionally, it would have been helpful if you had informed us about the broken ceiling fan switch, rather than leaving it for us to discover, especially knowing that the next guest would be checking in. Please know that it is always our priority to provide our guests with a perfect holiday experience.”

Verified reviewAccommodation in a historic house, but the apartment is modernly equipped including all necessary facilities such as kitchen, washing machine, ... Excellent location in the middle of the historic district. At night I was not disturbed by noise like in most other accommodations. Very friendly owner. I recommend it.
There is probably nothing to complain about here.
Tx for your kind review. It was a pleasure hosting you.

Verified reviewWe stayed at this apartment in Malta for 4 nights and we have been pleasantly surprised by how well set up the apartment was. The kitchen was highly functional with everything required - even has a washer/dryer. The hosts were extremely accommodating and the pictures on booking.com are an exact match to the rooms. We highly recommend this place.
Just worth noting that free parking is available, but you may need to park a bit further from the property.

Verified reviewLocation was excellent. Handy for ferry to Valetta and situated in the oldest part of town. great views from the gardens at the end of the peninsula and handy for restaurants.
The entrance to the apartment was down steep narrow steps with little headroom. I have arthritis in my ankle and knees and I found access difficult. Bedroom was very small with the bed against the wall which meant climbing over your partner to get in or out of bed. Little or no natural light.

Verified reviewGreat apartment, lovely owners and wonderful neighborhood to live in. Mostly locals, even if on the other side of the bay is Valletta, full of tourists. Quiet and traditional. I will definitely chose this area and apartment if I'll be visiting Malta again.
The only thing I didn't liked, which might apply only to myself, but I will mention it nevertheless, was the heating and cooling appliances which were cloud connected so the owners could control them remotely. Happened once in the first day so I turned them off, as it wasn't really cold in that period.

Verified reviewWe really enjoy our holidays in Malta and were gratefull to hosting family. They offered to pick us at the airport for small change (15EUR) and it was very kind and helpfull. The appartment is equipped very well, offers even more what you need. What we like the best was the location. The Senglea is the best place to live!!! It is close to Valetta, just few minutes walk to ferry. Travelling by ferry gives you special views every day :-)
As the appartment is located in the basement, there is lack of the natural air and daily light (no windows).
