How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

He was very generous with a request we had for later check out which made our travel day go so smoothly we can’t thank him enough!! The location was perfect walking distance from everything we needed day and night! The apartment was great we had so much space and two balcony’s which we didn’t realise when booking :) Would definitely stay here again!!

Verified reviewThe apartment was well-equipped and had all the essentials that we needed. It was useful to have a good range of cleaning materials as well as initial supplies of shower gel etc and some other items in the kitchen cupboards that meant we did not have to buy absolutely everything we might need. We already knew the general area but gained further insights over the week of our stay. The large Wellbees supermarket is very near and can be accessed by way of a lift at the church just around the corner from the apartment. You could happily self-cater at quite reasonable cost. The area is very well-served by buses with several stops very close by, and you will rarely have to wait even five minutes for the next one. It is worth checking on the "TD"-numbered services, as these take the ringroad (e.g. to Valletta or the airport) and are much quicker than the ones that stop all the way along, through Sliema and Gzira. We bought seven-day Tallinja Explore tickets for €25 each at the "Ross" bus-stop and made good use of these, including when going to the airport on the day of our departure. The TD2 bus was punctual and got there in about 20 minutes - as good as a taxi, really,
A few minor points that would not be deal-breakers for us: We could not locate an iron but managed without it! The quality of the crockery (some plates chipped) and cutlery (rather basic and some of very light metal) was adequate but it would be nice to have had something a little bit newer. The coded entrance door to the building took a little getting used to as it is heavy and needed a little practice.

Verified reviewWe really enjoyed our stay at Spinola Apartments and would wholeheartedly recommend it - the location is wonderful, with plenty of good food places nearby and lovely walks around Spinola Bay, St Julians Bay and St George's Bay. The apartment itself felt newly furnished and was very clean and spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped also. Kurt was a gracious host and very easy to communicate with for check in and check out.
The only (minor!) thing is that I wish the apartment had an iron, no other complaints!

Verified reviewVery nice location, close both to Spinola and St. Julian's busy zones but located in a quiet little street. Newly furnished apartman with all necessary things you may need during your stay. Two balconies are good if somebody smoking. Both room has A/C and big screen smart TV with Netflix and both beds are comfortable.
Unfortunately no drapery in the living room where the sofabed is, so no possibility to shade it and the morning sun directly lighting in. There was only very thick and warm duvet available what was a too warm while the blanket was not enough in April, so we needed to use the A/C to heat the room all night.

The owner forgot about our checking in and settled other tenants. The apartment was occupied when we arrived. If the owner had not settled us in a nearby hotel, the rating would have been 0 (zero). Some time after checking in, when I undressed and was about to take a shower, a man came to the apartment and opened the door himself with his key. These 2 situations made us very sad. The smell of dogs and urine in the toilet. Paper holder is rusty. There was a constant strange noise at all the nights from the toilet. The electric kettle didn't work.
I'm sorry to hear that your stay was uncomfortable. Allow me to clarify some points. Firstly, it wasn't because I forgot your booking. There was a check-in mistake that allowed you to check in during the middle of the night, even though you weren't scheduled for that time. This was not your fault, and that's why I arranged a taxi and alternative accommodation for that night, even though you were not booked with my apartment for that night. Regarding the issues you mentioned about the bad smell and noise from the toilet, it's a bit surprising as we conduct thorough cleanings and even provide an air freshener in the bathroom. As for the electric kettle, I can assure you that it does work. I had been in constant contact with you, I would have been more than happy to provide instructions on how to use it. Once again, I apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay.

Verified reviewSpinola apartment was clean and spacious. Has a lift which was a bonus with luggage. Conveniently located to the main bay, restaurants and supermarket. We used the Local taxi service Bolt, but the buses were a 3 minute walk away.
