How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe bed linen seemed unwashed, it was not ironed and looked like used, stale bedding. There is mold in the shower cabin and around its perimeter in the bathroom. The bunk bed creaks loudly and wobbles — it is homemade and not attached to the wall, with an unstable construction. Twice during the night, the bed tipped to the side. It is impossible and unsafe to sleep on it. There is a huge streetlamp located on the bedroom balcony that lights up the street. It cannot be turned off as it does not belong to the apartment. The blinds in the room do not fully cover the balcony doors, and the light from the streetlamp shines inside. This makes it very difficult to sleep as the light is quite bright and shines directly into the eyes. There is a persistent smell of dampness in the house.

Verified reviewSpacious living room, relatively close to the center, access to the kitchen, smart TV
The biggest minus is a noise in the bedroom, it is very difficult to sleep here, you feel like you are on the street, and the cars are very noisy when driving up the hill. Additionally, the large bed was very uncomfortable and hard. Only one duvet for 3 guests. A big minus is also the fee for storing backpacks before check-in, it's the first time I've encountered a fee for such a small gesture, lack of hospitality. The apartment was quite dirty, the owner does not care about the guests' comfort, he leaves dirty sponges and cloths in the kitchen, the kitchen equipment is poor, the old utensils are unusable. Dirty floors, a technical room in the lower toilet with dirty cloths, there was a bad smell from there. There is no towel under the feet in the bathroom. It's about a 10-minute uphill walk to the center, for us it's not a problem, but for some it may be troublesome.

Verified reviewThe house is nice
The laundry was not clean. Kids bed sheets smells of cigarettes. Luckily there was some clean sheets in the other room that we changed. The double bed mattress hard as wood. To the point that you can't sleep on your side because your hip bone will hurt . At a point in the night l had to go to sleep on the single bed that was much more comfortable.

Verified reviewWell equipped. Beds comfortable. Fully airconditioned.
The main bedroom has only blinds which do not properly close thus do not shield light from the street lamp. Downstairs bathroom didn't have soap or toilet paper. Moreover brooms and spade with dust where left near thr toilet.

Verified reviewThe place looks like the pictures. It was overall clean. The hosts seem to be taking feedback into consideration, as some issues mentioned in other reviews were solved - new towels, hooks for hanging stuff in the bathroom, a couch, good internet throughout the entire place.
As others have pointed out, the bed/mattress is hard. It is a beautiful traditional house, but it does mean some humidity in the first floor (living room/kitchen). For us, the biggest issue was the noise from the street. We are light sleepers, so the three nights we stayed there, sleeping was really complicated. It is a busy avenue, uphill. Cars, trucks and motorcycles have to slow down right before the house and then accelerate uphill.

Verified reviewThe house is on two floors and is very beautiful and characteristic, with typical Maltese brickwork, arches and very high ceilings. However, it has been completely renovated and is quite equipped, although some things were missing. The wi-fi works well and the area is quite central and parking is easy to find. The check-in instructions were quite clear via video, but I still recommend sending the exact location via whatsapp. The garbage must be thrown away according to the days and we asked the host for information on how to do it. We had a pleasant week-long stay in Gozo!
There was no shower mat in the bathroom and one in the kitchen to avoid wetting the floor when washing dishes, and there were no dishcloths (we used rags found at home), paper towels, breakfast placemats or tablecloth. The bathroom is large but very basic: there is no toothbrush holder, hair dryer and air freshener (the bathroom has no window). The bed linen is all white and there were some stains. On the ground floor there is another small bathroom, which however is used as a storage room... it would be convenient to be able to use it, considering that the house is on two floors. There was no information about the garbage.
