How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewGreat villa with all the facilities we could have wanted. Plenty of space both inside and by the pool and the villa is well equipped. A very welcome pay fridge stocked with drinks to save you running out is in the pool house and our host Mario was very helpful. He was in touch prior to our arrival to make sure everything was organised and very helpful during our stay- has loads of information about local sites and facilities. We can’t speak highly enough of him. The villa is located in a quite residential area but well served by taxis to take you anywhere on the island if you don’t have a car. A great place to stay – highly recommended.

Verified reviewOur host Mario was very thorough, he sent us loads of great info in advance of our trip to help us get the most out of our holiday on Malta. When we arrived he told us about everything at the property and in the local area then offered to show us where the supermarkets and local sites of interest were which was very kind. We enjoyed our time as a family chilling by the pool and visiting the island.

Verified reviewThe villa is a large family villa with lots of facilities. The outdoor space is particularly large for a Maltese villa. Mario is a very keen host and on hand to help in anyway he can. The honesty store cupboard was also an added bonus.

Verified reviewThe house was very comfortable and spacious, in a quiet area with easy parking on the street outside. There was effective air con in all reception rooms and bedrooms, essential in the July heat. The pool was a good size and well-maintained, with lots of other outdoor furniture to use and a BBQ. Naxxar was well-situated to get to other places of interest on Malta (and Bolt taxis came very quickly), and we found some interesting things to see very close to the house (Mosta church, Palazzo Parisio) as well as a very good restaurant (L'Orangerie). Our host was very welcoming and helpful, giving us lots of useful information at the start of our stay and also checking all was well with us during the week.
Nothing - everything was good. You may want to bear in mind the fourth (single) bedroom is directly off the kitchen/dining room so not always the quietest place to sleep.

Verified reviewLovely clean, spacious property. Great use of amenities, pool was perfect in size for a family of 6. Deep enough to dive and swim lengths. The bedrooms were good sizes, with plenty of wardrobe space. Furnishings made the stay feel homely.
Nothing major to dislike, some of the appliances didn’t work effectively but having raised the issue, it was quickly resolved.

Verified reviewThe villa was well kept, with everything being clean and everything working as intended. We especially appreciated the ability to use the BBQ. The aircon was also very useful, with it being effective and available in each room. The pool was a major selling point for our group as well, and we really enjoyed getting to use it. The host was also very accommodating, and made our stay as move as possible. Thank you Mario for having us!
The location was better suited for having a car, but the cheap taxis through the Bolt app and the villas central location on the island made it easy to get around.

Verified reviewModern property with working electrics, water and air conditioning Great pool area with outdoor dining table and sofas Good central location for travel to all parts of Malta Communicative and helpful host. All requests wet promptly met. Kitchen facilities were very good for home cooking. The property is close to Naxxar centre and the amazing PAMA Supermarket. Also a local convenience store.
We booked for 6 and had use of the self contained ground floor unit. This consisted of 3 double bedrooms and a single. The single room was quite small.

Verified reviewThe property itself is very beautiful, well maintained. The pool is gorgeous and the surrounding area is nice and quiet at all times of the day.
I cannot give this property a good review due to the attitude of the owner. We were a group of 7 professionals on a work trip, to visit our office in Malta and this was communicated previously to the owner. Being colleagues, during the planning of the trip we weren't sure who exactly would be coming on it, only that there would be roughly 7 of us, so it was paramount that we get a property where each person could have a separate bed. In that regard, Villa Naxxar seemed perfect, as the property description mentioned 4 bedrooms with 7 separate beds! But upon arrival, we found 3 double beds and only 1 single bed tucked away in a room with no outer windows and which basically resembled a storage closet. By itself this wouldn't have been a big deal, but when requesting more beds and explaining the situation to the owner (that we are colleagues not a large family or a collection of couples) the answer we received was to pay more (30EUR per person, per night) in cash, even though we wouldn't be adding more people to the booking. Even the request of an extra linen set, so someone could use the couch in the living room, was denied and the phone conversation got quite heated. On top of this, the owner made inappropriate comments throughout the first few days mentioning how he has never had this problem before and "it is perfectly fine for people to sleep together". On the second day these comments received a direct response from me to inform the owner that his opinion on us sleeping together is irrelevant after which he exploded and got very angry. The owner also requested 30-50EUR per person, in cash, even if they were just visiting, which was only communicated AFTER the booking was made. On top of this, he lived next door and had a habit of randomly showing up poolside, without giving us any notice, which made everyone feel constantly on edge and took away from the relaxing atmosphere.
The reservation was for 7 people and we provided 3 double beds and 1 single bed (sleeping accommodation for 7 people) as very clearly stated on the property information and very clearly shown on the pictures of the bedrooms on the Vacation website. Moreover, it is very clearly written on the House Rules on the Vacation website that in case guests want extra beds they have to pay the additional fee. The same applies to visiting guests, whether they are spending time in the property, by the pool or sleeping in the property. It seems that Matiss either didn’t read the House Rules on the Vacation website prior to booking or is trying to justify his irresponsible behavior and demands. Since having separate beds was so important to these guests, we wonder how come Matiss didn’t specifically ask this during our lengthy communication prior to their arrival. Why would Matiss ask if kitchen utensils and a blender were available in the property and whether he could have extra door keys but not whether they could have separate beds!!! Had this been the case we would have clearly clarified the situation to Matiss, just like we did in all his other questions, that if extra beds would be required, an extra charge would be applicable as clearly listed on the Vacation website. If this would not have been acceptable by Matiss, then we would have informed him to look for alternative accommodation as we treat ALL guests in exactly the same way and will surely not allow guests to take advantage of us. We take great care to give ALL our guests, first class service as one can easily find on ALL previous reviews which were ALL 10 out of 10. Moreover, as per House Rules on the Vacation website when guests arrive to the property they are given a Lease Agreement about what is allowed and not allowed on the property. This eliminates any misunderstandings. These were read, agreed and signed by Matiss on Arrival. We treat ALL guests in exactly the same way and could therefore not allow these guests to have extra beds without paying for them. These guests were no different to any other guests that we had over the years. I got a bit angry with Matiss when he used very bad language (which obviously I cannot write here) and when he started disrespecting and breaking the House Rules he had just read, signed and agreed to. We respect everyone except the ones who don’t respect us or our property. I visited the property when I was passing by the property and saw a number of people going inside the property so I obviously went to check it out for safety and security reasons. Strangely enough Matiss did not mention that they broke one of the large outdoor umbrellas, one of the outer pool deck-chairs, the curtain support in the sitting room, threw dirt in the bath which completely obstructed and blocked the drains, left the place dirty and in a complete mess and didn’t pay for the consumables taken from the property (pictures and videos of all these are available and have been forwarded to the Vacation website). Matiss told us that he was going to get the money from the ATM but never came back. That tells us a lot about the integrity of Matiss. We will surely not welcome these guests again on our property and if they book under another name and they arrive to the property we will surely not allow them to stay with us. Regretfully this is the first bad review we ever had but it is no surprise considering Matiss irresponsible behaviour, state in which he left the property and damages done to the property. ALL the previous Guests have given us a 10 out of 10 review and have ALL complemented the Owner (Mario) about the help and assistance we give to our guests.
