How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The beds were very firm and uncomfortable. The breakfast was no where near worth the price. Our wifi router in the room did not work so we had to use another rooms wifi. Phone to the lobby was dead

Although individuals were friendly, the whole place feels rather shambolic. Compared to other 3-star hotels at this price point - including many less well-established ones, too- Anaari is a little disappointing. - The air con in my room wasn't working properly. I had deliberately chosen a hotel with air con, too. -The windowless bathroom had no ventilation at all, so it was always soaking wet in there -The beds felt a bit sandy before we had even got in them -No help was given with our luggage on arrival. It was more a case of "sit over there and take your luggage with you whilst we sort out the room and paperwork." This didn't feel very welcoming -Proper coffee instead of instant coffee would be nice! - The TV in the room is pointless In addition, the hotel suffers from poor communication amongst staff and to its customers. - The fridge in the room is helpful, but it should not be advertised as a mini bar - We were rung up in the night by reception asking what time we were leaving the next day. Hmmm. If check out is until 12 noon, you should assume customers will be checking out not much before then. If you have overbooked and need the room earlier, that's not the customer's problem - The promised hotel sun loungers were not on the beach. We had to ring to ask where they were, and then walk back to speak to staff in person as we were being sent on a wild goose chase. Only then were we told that the loungers weren't out that day. This was a real waste of our time. This information should have been clearly communicated to customers - and all staff!- that morning - We had planned our last morning in Flic en Flac - indeed, our last morning at the seaside in Mauritius - around a short trip to the beach followed by a last dip in the hotel pool. We arrived at the pool after our trip to the beach only to be told the pool was closed that morning.

Regarding the air conditioning in your room, our team checked it twice and noticed that the remote was set to 30°C, which could have contributed to the issue. Nonetheless, we understand your frustration and will ensure that clearer guidance is provided to guests for optimal use of the AC system. The swimming pool closure on the day in question was necessary due to unforeseen circumstances. Our maintenance team had to perform a backwash and add chlorine and acid to maintain hygiene and safety standards. While the pool was closed for three hours, we apologize for the disruption this caused to your plans. We acknowledge your concerns about the lack of ventilation in the bathroom, the condition of the bed, and the absence of assistance with luggage upon arrival. These are areas where we recognize there is room for improvement, and we are committed to addressing them to provide a more comfortable and welcoming experience for our guests. As for the availability of sun loungers, we would like to clarify that, as Aanari Hotel & Spa is not a beachfront property, our sun loungers are available only on weekdays in accordance with our permit. During weekends, public holidays, and the festive season (January 1st to January 15th), the beach tends to be particularly busy. On January 3rd, for safety reasons, management decided not to provide sun loungers. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Lastly, we regret the issues caused by miscommunication among our staff and with our guests. We are reviewing our procedures to ensure clearer and more effective communication going forward. Verified reviewThe free room upgrade we got, really friendly and helpful staff! The nice restaurant outside with cutely arranged tables and plants, and the location: just 1 min from the beach flic-en-flac! Breakfast was delicious, with a cook making fresh omelettes and pancakes.
The pool was a bit small with loud machine-like noises, not very relaxing.

Dinner buffet was disappointing. Lacked variety and some of the food tasted bland. We would have preferred being advised beforehand that we could have chosen from the 'a la carte' menu at nil cost if same below rs600 per person; before taking the buffet. However, breakfast was ok. There were little cockroaches in the bathroom. Location not that great.
