How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe stayed in the cottage which was perfect for our tour around Mauritius. This boutique hotel gave us a base to visit the sites such as Casela Nature Park, Black River Gorge and Grand Bassin. Our cottage provided some self-catering facilities and a lovely place to sit and watch the activities in the bay. We loved relaxing by the pool and watching the sunset.

Verified reviewThis probably has the most gorgeous view of the bay compared to any other hotel along this coast. Clean and lovely little hotel, with friendly staff. Excellent location, can easily walk to the local beach, shops and restaurants. (We had a car) In August this is a quiet and lovely little seaside town to stay in, with plenty of nice restaurants and cafes.

The rooms with a high ceiling are not very soundproofed, you can hear pretty much everything that's happening in the other rooms.

Verified reviewThe hotel is small and cozy, located at the very beginning of the Flic En Flac beach. We were met with a welcome drink, which was very nice. The room has everything needed, the bed is comfy, and the bathroom has shampoo and shower gel. The breakfast was modest in selection, yet good, we always felt full. It includes some buffet with meat/fish/cheese, some veggies, sausages, cereals, and yogurt. They bring you separately croissants and pain au chocolat (which are very tasty), fruits, and eggs upon request. The administrator was very friendly and cheerful. Just to note: the hotel is located directly at the beach, yet you would need to walk for about 10 mins to get to the place where it's possible to swim. We knew this before booking, so it wasn't an issue for us, a walk on such a beautiful beach is wonderful.
The restaurant for dinner was slightly disappointing. We were asked during breakfast if we would come for dinner, and we said yes. When coming to the dinner, the waiter said a couple of times that we should have came earlier and next time we better tell the exact time of coming, since he has other things to do rather then waiting for us.. (No one at breakfast asked us for time, so we didn't think it would be a problem). Nothing major, just i was feeling not very comfortable hearing that. The tuna grilled was good, while large prawns were mediocre and overpriced for such a portion (3 pieces). Other than this dining experience, everything else was perfect, and we would still recommend the hotel for sure.

Verified reviewWe stayed at Les 2 Canons in Flic & Flac, and unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. While the hotel’s exterior and pool area are quite beautiful, with lovely surroundings, the overall stay was disappointing. First, the hospitality of the staff—especially in the restaurant—was lacking. They were not welcoming, which made dining there uncomfortable. The room itself needed serious renovation. The walls were in poor condition, with visible spots and inconsistencies in texture. The furniture was very old, and the bathroom had a serious hygiene issue, as we found cockroaches coming from the shower cabin every night. Additionally, the corridor leading to our room was extremely hot and not ventilated properly, making it uncomfortable to walk through. There were spider webs in the room, showing a clear lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Another issue was the overpriced ironing service—charging 6-7 euros just to iron a dress—and they wouldn’t allow guests to borrow an iron for their rooms. Overall, despite the nice pool view, the poor room conditions, lack of hospitality, and maintenance issues made our stay disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless they make significant improvements.

We are, however, surprised by some of the points you raised, as many of our other guests have praised our staff for being friendly, welcoming, and attentive. We will certainly review your comments with our team to ensure we continue providing the best possible service. Regarding the room, the design of the walls is intentional and part of the aesthetic we have chosen for the property. While we understand that individual preferences can vary, we believe it contributes to the overall ambiance. In reference to the hygiene and pest issues, we are sorry that this was a concern for you. We take cleanliness very seriously, and our team regularly conducts pest control measures. We do wish that you had brought this up during your stay, as we would have been happy to address it immediately. Regarding the ventilation in the corridor, we will look into this to improve the comfort of our guests in the future. As for the ironing service, we understand your frustration but must explain that, for security reasons, we do not provide irons in rooms. Our primary concern is the safety of our guests and property. The risk of a guest accidentally leaving an iron on, potentially causing a fire, is something we must consider. We hope you understand that this policy is in place to protect everyone. Verified reviewThe room had a unique design with an incredible view of the infinity pool and the sea. The staff were polite and extremely helpful. We also enjoyed swimming and taking walks along the beach. There were good restaurants within walking distance.
The shower water pressure was low, and the Wi-Fi connection was slow.
