Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing!
We had a fantastic couple of nights here (2 adults and 2 children aged 7 and 12). The whole team are amazing and the set up is super cool! The lunch food was sensational and it was great to do the boat trip to the gorgeous island and kayak to the waterfall. Our tent was very comfortable and finally we loved the chilled vibe around the campfire in the evening. We would highly recommend this place.

SeychellesOur two-night stay at Otentic was an absolute highlight and the perfect way to end our trip to Mauritius. The experience met every one of our expectations, and I truly wish we could have stayed longer. The food was a particular standout—both the breakfast and dinner were amazing and felt like great value for money. We also loved the unique self-service/honesty bar concept, which created a wonderful sense of trust and community. Even though it was a cold and windy time, our tent was incredibly cozy and the temperature was just right. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but we do have a small suggestion that could further enhance the experience. Since it was a cold and windy period, the outdoor activities like kayaking and visiting the nearby island weren't ideal for us. We think the property has great potential for alternative day/ evening activities, such as a cooking class, trivia night, or a bonfire with s'mores. A great solution we found was to use our car to explore the local area, which made for a well-spent day. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this lovely eco-lodge.

An incredible place all-round; from super kind staff who make the stay even more special, to awesome, comfortable tents with very comfy beds and linens, to great food. I cannot recommend this place enough, and I think it's a must-visit place on the map of Mauritius. We are in love with Otentic and can't wait to be back!

United KingdomNothing that could be controlled - the weather was windy but we knew that before we went.
A great experience - the food is delicious & great value, we enjoyed the range of activities - the kayaking, boat trip to Les Cerfs & boules, archery. We also tried all the homemade flavoured rums. The tents were very comfortable & outside bathrooms were fun.

FranceWhat a perfect stay at Otentic. We were first welcomed by a very friendly staff that made us feel the authentic Mauritian spirit of the place with a touch of eco-chic vibes. The value for money is really excellent as the meals and drinks were of incredible quality and the activities on site (free kayak to the nearby fall, free boat trip to a picture-perfect beach on Ile aux Cerfs) worth the stop on our tour of the island. Can't recommend enough!

MauritiusA lot of mosquitoes. It’s explainable because tents are near the river. And it is impossible to get rid of them completely, so this is just a reminder to take more mosquito repellents with you
The staff were very friendly and responsive. Thanks to them the stay felt like home. Food was amazing. All the activities like shuttle to Île aux Cerfs, kayaking was organized and explained perfectly. The tent was very comfortable and with beautiful view. We’ve been here only one night but now there are memories for a year ahead)

United KingdomThe only things to mention here are out of Otentic's control, but thought it fair to mention for future guests. We stayed higher up the hill, nearer the road. There is road noise & music from cars up until about 9pm. We use earplugs anyway. There is a nearby mosque with a loud PA system with several calls to prayer on some days. There are other animal noises such as dogs barking & cockerels rising up from the valley at times. Otentic gave us the contact for a taxi ride from Pereybere to Otentic. We organised this before we travelled to Mauritius. Sanjay quoted 2500MUR to which we agreed. Once in Mauritius, we found this to be on the high side. Sanjay was helpful & drove safely. He asked if we wanted to go to some tropical gardens on the way or go to Otentic via the coast road as he had lots of time. We opted for the coast road. He offered to stop at a beach, so we stopped at Belle Mare for half an hour. At Otentic, he then said 2500MUR was the basic price but as we detoured (on his suggestion) the price was now 3000MUR. We paid but disagreed with his mode of business.
There is so much to like about this place, it"s hard to know where to start. The tent accommodation is roomy & comfortable with a mobile fan. The shower room is well appointed, but also like a tropical garden as it has plants placed in there growing out of the ground, soaking up the shower water. There is also a secure safe in the tent. The grounds are a delight, with lots of food growing & labels for the plants. There is also lots of wildlife to enjoy with many bird species, cute little frogs, giant fox bats, geckos & lots of interesting insects. The hub area has a relaxed safari vibe, with a pool, a self-service bar, comfy seating, a dining area, a games room, the kitchen, lots of amazing mature trees, darts, petanque, badminton, archery, etc. Plenty for everyone to enjoy. Below the hub area, on the riverside, were kayaks & SUP boards for use by guests (no charge), a sheltered yoga area, a massage room and a place to get on/off the free boat ride to the stunning Ile Aux Cerfs. We took a kayak up the river to see the waterfall & see the monkeys on the far riverbank up close. We also went to Ile Aux Cerfs on a litter-pick day & were rewarded by Otentic with an outstanding beach lunch. I had a back/neck massage by Sangit, which not only was amazing, but was also a lifestyle masterclass. The staff are all young and full of enthusiasm & so helpful. They also helped out with the free cooking class offered one day. Now to the best bit - the food. We only ate breakfast (included) and dinner (900MUR = £15 per adult). Buying dinner entitled you to inclusive soft drinks 24/7. Breakfast was fruits, cereals, breads, homemade jams, cheese, meats & eggs cooked to order. Somedays, there were extras like the most tasty eggy bread. The dinners were outstanding & the best food we had in all of the places we stayed in our 17-day stay in Mauritius.
