How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewI really liked Matt. The guy at reception who checked us in. Soooo friendly and full of smiles. Even helped us carry our big heavy bags. He is just soooo kind and a really happy person. The apartment is beautiful and clean and spacious. Very close to the beach about 5 mins drive. Lots of shops to eat and best part basement parking for your car. Also the other best part is that they give you beach umbrellas, snorkeling equipment and beach toys which you can use and return daily. Thanks Matt was sooo lovely meeting you. 😊

Verified reviewOne of the best properties I have stayed at. Perfectly suited for families. The apartment had everything needed - well stocked kitchen, clean and big bed, good light. Matt was very friendly and helped us settle into Mauritius as it was our first day in the country. They also have beach toys for the kids which was a massive plus. Proximity to Grand Baie and Trou aux Biches and Pereybere - so you'll get everything within short drives. We wished we could have spent a few more days here.
Plenty of stairs to climb - it was not a problem for us but can be an issue if you have trouble climbing steps.

Verified reviewThe apartment was spacious and comfortable, providing plenty of room for our family. The beach is quite far from the property, which may not be convenient for some travelers.
Everything was fine at first until we discovered cockroaches inside the apartment, including the kitchen and common areas. This was a serious hygiene issue, especially since we were traveling with young children. Due to this, we decided to leave early. The owner personally assured us that he would refund us for the unused nights, but after we left, he lied to Booking.com and refused to pay. He falsely claimed there was spilled food (which was absolutely not true – I even provided photos to booking.com proving otherwise). Unfortunately, the owner's dishonesty and refusal to take responsibility ruined our experience. I would not recommend staying here unless you’re comfortable with the risk of pests and unreliable management.
It is unfortunate that this guest has resorted to such pettiness with their review. However, upon occasions, we do encounter this type of dishonest person. At no point whatsoever, was a refund ever promised to this guest. I did meet with the guest in the apartment to determine the validity of the claims. I have attached the official response given to booking.com in relation to this matter: For the clarification of this booking (group booking), Danielius and guests accommodated the 2 Bedroom Apartment and Martynas and guests accommodated the King Studio. A message was sent by Danielius at 2019hrs on Wednesday the 5th of March stating that they had observed cockroaches in the 2 Bedroom Apartment and they would be seeking alternative accommodation. This was responded to in the morning of the 6th of March. At 0241hrs on the 6th of March a request was received via booking.com for a refund of nights not used for BOTH parties. In discussion with Danielius on the morning of 6th of March, it was explained to me that they saw a cockroach on the kitchen floor area. They have taken a photo of 1 cockroach which appears to have been located in that area. I expressed to Danielius that I would have expected a message regarding any such issues before making a decision to leave so that it could have been resolved. I stated that we could have moved them to another apartment if required. I discussed with Danielius that the apartment was delivered to them in a very clean condition with no evidence of insect inhabitation. I also pointed out that our cleanliness rating is 9.8 for a reason. I further discussed that we cannot accept any responsibility for the cleanliness of the apartment once a guest has started their accommodation. Being a self serviced apartment, there is cleaning equipment provided including disinfecting liquid, mop and bucket, broom, cloths and a can of insect killer. None of the cleaning items appear to have been used. I discussed that in a tropical environment such as Mauritius, insects do pose a problem and they are often attracted to come inside if the area is not kept clean. It is also unknown as to whether the guests had left the apartment windows or doors open allowing pests to enter. Upon inspection of the apartment prior to departure, it was noted that there was food waste on the floors of the kitchen, kitchen table, kitchen rug and crumbs and stains to the lounge chairs. Although not grossly unclean, it is sufficient to attract insects and pests in the apartment. Danielius’ messages received via booking.com alluded to an unhygienic apartment, a multitude of cockroaches and an illness of one of the children which may or may not be associated with said conditions. It should be noted that no other guests have made mention to observing cockroaches. I found that the messages were worded in a way to justify leaving the property early rather than to elicit a resolution to a problem. My response in regards to a refund of the party of Martynas accommodating the King Studio is that we refuse to issue any refund as there is no due cause for reimbursement. In fact, upon inspection of the Studio, we found it to be very unclean with bags of rubbish, food spillage, crumbs on bedding, floors, dishes hurriedly washed and left on the sink, stains to towels and linens. We are considering persuing a cleaning charge for this room. In regards to Danielius’ request for a refund, I feel that it is unreasonable and unwarranted based on the grounds of the request. The photo of one cockroach which was more than likely attracted inside to the food waste left by the guests certainly does not imply that the accommodation was unhygienic and uninhabitable and any fault of ours. Therefore, we also refuse to issue a refund in this case. Yours sincerely, Residence Le Point Choisy. It should be noted that this guest booked Riu Resort on the other side of the island for the remainder of their stay. It is quite clear that they had decided to go elsewhere and tried to get a refund under false pretenses. We also have multiple photos of the condition of the apartments if evidence should be required. It should be noted that booking.com has not pursued this matter any further with us as they obviously agree that the claims made by the guest are unwarranted.

Verified reviewThe apartments as well as the building are well equipped (fridge, washing machine, gas stove, small oven, air conditioning), there are professional water filters in the corridors from which you can safely drink water. Matt and Yash who manage the place are friendly and willing to help with anything from recommending places worth visiting to helping us organize tours. When we mentioned we were on our honeymoon, it was Yash who came to our room to give us champagne, which was very nice. Very good place to stay in Mauritius in the Grand Baie area. As for the location, there is a store at the bottom of the building and there are 2 bakeries and several restaurants in the area. It is 10 minutes by foot to the beautiful Mont Choicy beach.

Verified reviewResidence Choisy studio is well equipped and well situated in a beautiful style. Thoughtful, very basic breakfast basket provided for the first day. Loved that they had a simple filter coffee machine and that enough coffee and tea was provided for a cup a day for my stay. Also appreciated them saying they wouldn’t be replenished each day as I don’t like waste. Great hosts. as a member of the LGBTQ community, the owners approach and queer run space was a breath of fresh air.
Street noise in the morning from around 7.30 am was loud. Advise ear plugs then it’s fine. I didn’t like the accordion style door on the bathroom which is right next to the main entrance but the owners have clearly done their best with the space they have.

We were given beach towels and snorkelling masks, and we were given great advice in terms of sightseeing, etc. On arrival. The beds were very comfortable, and there was enough cupboard space. We also provide guests with access to beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, a small library, beach toys for children, snorkelling equipment, free advice and assistance for tours and other attractions around the island. Verified reviewYash, Matt and Amrish were great hosts. As soon as we expressed any wishes, they helped us right away, providing us with a wide range of solutions (snorkels, contacts for excursion, quick resolution of issues). You would be ten minutes away from the Mont Choisy beach, which is a big plus. The studio was really comfortable, neat and tidy.
Despite two layers of windows, the sound of the road can be heard (logical but still, something to keep in mind). Apart from that, everything was perfect.
