How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewWe stayed for 8 nights at The Residence Mauritius and had a truly fantastic experience — we could not recommend it more highly. From the moment we arrived, the service was seamless. The warm welcome, complete with hot towels and a refreshing drink, set the tone for our stay. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Our room was spacious, beautifully furnished, and felt wonderfully luxurious — from the marble bathroom to the elegant furniture and crisp white linen. The beach and surrounding lawns were impeccably maintained, and the beach staff were always eager to assist. The kids’ club was a highlight for our daughter. It’s large, with both indoor and outdoor play areas, and offers a full schedule of activities for the week. We were warmly welcomed on check-in by one of the kids’ club staff, which made our daughter feel right at home. Evenings were a treat with themed dinners that offered variety without compromising quality. The dining hall was immaculate and elegantly set each night. Special thanks to Executive Chef Desire and his dedicated team — their passion for hospitality shines through in every detail. The hotel’s facilities are exceptional — too many to list — but everything was spotlessly clean, well maintained, and had a luxurious yet homely feel. A few staff members deserve special mention (though every single team member was outstanding): • Jane – Our daughter adored you for your warmth and friendliness at the pizza station. • Saheb – Thank you for going the extra mile with the sorbet. • Kazeem and Ramsamy – Your attentive service in the dining hall made each meal memorable. • Desire (Executive Chef) – For your friendliness and dedication to making each dining experience special. • Rajesh – For your hospitality and care in the dining hall. • Carina at reception – For handling every request with a smile and efficiency.
A small note for improvement: We felt that The Plantation restaurant had very limited inclusive options for half-board and all-inclusive guests. The dishes we ordered from the à la carte menu were beautifully presented, but the flavour pairings felt a little unusual and not as special as we had hoped. I would also suggest heating at least one of the pools. During the winter months in Mauritius, this would make swimming far more enjoyable, and even in summer, maintaining a consistent temperature would be a great touch. We stayed at another Mauritian hotel last August that had a heated pool, and it quickly became the heart of the resort — with guests spending full days in the water.

Verified reviewThe hotel is located on the east coast of Mauritius at the Belle Mare beach. Exquisite hotel, very welcoming staff always ready to help and make sure you are having the best possible stay at The Residence Mauritius. I was on half-board basis which was fantastic, the buffet spread was delicious and has something for everyone. The room was well appointed and spacious enough. I really enjoyed my stay and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a relaxed holiday in style, yet at an affordable price.

Verified reviewThe hotel does not occupy very big territory, however there are lots of space on the beach, you can choose either surrounding with the palms or the white sand. The sand is very soft like a powder and not hot. Kayaks, paddles, catamarans, water ski, etc - all are free of charge. Great experience was to try water ski! There is cold refreshing water on the beach during the day free of charge. Beach towels are soft and new. The ebb and flow of water in the ocean was not significant during our stay, you can easily swim during the day. Seaside is perfect with soft sand, no stones, no fish, good for kids. The room is very big, we had 2 rooms and got free of charge upgrade for the ocean view. The personnel is really very kind, very kind. Always ready to help and solve any problem. At the end of our stay we were presented with the bottle of champagne from the manager. There is consierge service, they can book any restaurant, excursions, taxi, etc. There is a big library in the hotel, very nice massages and body treatment, free of charge sauna, hammam and gym. Although giving good humidity, hammam looks a bit out of date. Every evening there are wisdom affirmations near the bed, I collect all of them and took with me. The hotel and the rooms are in colonial style, although looking fresh, very nice towels and bed linens. Very clean all around. There are no restaurants outside the hotel, therefore if you eat 3 times per day it’s better to order HB/all-inclusive at once. Food was good, combination of Asian and European cuisine, wide selection of fruits, pan cakes, gems, eggs, etc, although being enough I cannot say there were a lot of vegetables. The location of the hotel is quite far from other attractions, we had a boat tour to the nearest waterfall, dolphins and monkeys and it was great. The weather in May was not stable, one day was all raining, others not hot but very comfortable, rains are very short and mostly at night. Water in the ocean was perfect.

Verified reviewI was absolutely blown away by this hotel, and had the most amazing 10 days staying here. There were plenty of sunbeds, both on the beach, and around the pool. My bedroom was spacious, clean, turndown and butler service every day. There are two restaurants open, and the selection of food was always good at both, but my preferred restaurant was The Plantation, as it was a la carte. The hotel staff were lovely, communicative, and nothing that you asked for was too much trouble (as an example, I left a water bottle in my room that was a gift, and the hotel are returning it to me in the UK). I would return again, in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for a fantastic, relaxing stay!

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay! The beach and hotel grounds were beautiful, and the service was excellent. The Plantation Restaurant was amazing and absolutely delicious. We loved the free water sports and the kids club had lots of daily activities. Everything was perfect—we’ll definitely be back!

Verified reviewThe beach is one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve seen in Mauritius. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good - we loved the Omlette and Crepes stations, as well as the wide selection of fresh fruits. The daily theme (e.g., Asia, Mauritius, Italy, Latino, etc.) for the dinner offers a great variety, even though we think that the level was not always the same. We appreciated the free water stations at the beach and at the pool. Also, the water sports activities, which are free, were amazing! Lastly, we appreciated the nice breakfast we got at 05:00am, before an excursion.
Unfortunately, one of us got a really bad stomach bug after the last dinner. The staff was very supportive and we were allowed to check out a bit later, so that we could directly move into our room at the next hotel. The staff at the bar was very slow, even though the bar wasn‘t crowded. One suggestion/idea would be to have some music and/or a pool bar. We were absolutely not looking for a „party“, but it might add a bit to the atmosphere.

The staff are not honest , the lady who welcomed us told that our reservation is half board so on day of arrival we went and eat dinner from open buffet and quality of food was average. Next day they told me to pay the dinner cost which is over priced and for 50% of the price we can get the best restaurant in Mauritius, after negotiation they gave us 40% discount on the bill. Unfortunately we didn't check our reservation if it including dinner or not but the worst thing in the story that lady denied telling us that we have dinner included despite all my family members witnessed her but again being an adult and lying on your customers is not acceptable and I will never recommend this resort to any one. Also the breakfast cake and pastry basket was full of ants.

To suggest that our staff misled you is not only incorrect but also unfair. Regarding your comments on the buffet, we disagree with your assessment. The many positive reviews we receive online reflect the quality of our offerings. As for your claim regarding ants in the pastry basket, it is a pure fallacy as hygiene is a top priority for us. Your feedback does not align with the experience we strive to provide.
