How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery central and close to the harbour yet not on a main road. The rooms with balcony are nice and comfortable. The hotel staff is very nice and helpful.
Make sure to get a balcony room.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious and clean with a large bathroom and a lovely balcony. The rooftop restaurant served lovely breakfasts and dinners - we even got given a packed breakfast on the morning of our departure when we left early. The staff were very friendly and helpful and accommodated all our needs. Central location, close to shops and restaurants and a short walk or bike ride to the beaches
Nothing!

Verified reviewI don’t recommend this hotel. The experience with this place could have been better. The hotel doesn’t have all the rooms they show on Booking. We booked a deluxe room with the balcony but we got a room even without a window outside, speaking nothing about the balcony. The owner tells us fairytales that it is a high season (but I booked beforehand, and the booking was confirmed) and our room will be ready tomorrow morning. However, it was also impossible to stay in the current room due to the strong chemical smell. They used some poison from insects. So, in fact we had to stay in another place, a guest house which was much worse than we booked. And guess what, the room we booked wasn’t ready the next morning. Then, we listened to other fairytales that the room will be ready in 30 min, then, in 15 min… at 12:30 we were told it was ready, but it wasn’t. And he took our belongings to the new room and our previous one went to other guests. So, we have been waiting for our room for 2 hours outside! And we were not the only ones with this situation. I know at least 4 other couples who didn’t get their rooms that they booked. Some of them were offered to stay at other places after three days waiting to get the room they booked, some just decided not to have scandals. The owner promised us to compensate the most expensive excursion for one person as an excuse. He actually did, however, not the excursion that was promised. So, what I understood, is that the rooms “deluxe with the balcony” and “queen size room with the balcony” are absolutely the same rooms. There are no queen size. You will pay more for the bed 151x180 cm. And most likely, you will be placed in another room with the window which goes to the corridor. And if you don’t fight for what you paid, the owner will be happy and will keep telling you his fairytales. The swimming pool is never cleaned, it has green water.

Verified reviewWe stayed in rooms 102 & 105. The rooms were comfortable and big enough. Always clean and beautify, maintained by John, who is always available with a huge smile. Mini fridge, hair dryer, safety box, TV, beach towels, bath towels, and hand towels were provided. Shower gel shampoo, and toilet paper was provided, too. The hotel has an in-house restaurant, Sands Grill Restaurant, on the 3rd floor, where in-house guests can have their meals. We were on a full board meal plan, which includes 3 meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner. The Sand Grill Restaurant is managed by chef Pathum and Pasidu. Both of them are very attentive. The food was very delicious and outstanding, while Pasidu's service was excellent. Overall, we would say we have seen and visited many hotels in Thoddoo, but Sands Garden Hotel has different concepts of hotel operation. A very customer oriented, friendly operation that gives you home feelings. All the staff members are always available and ready to serve your needs, they are hungry to make your holiday memorable Thank you Mr. Ahmed and his dedicated team, Chef Pathum, John, Pasidu, for the service extended to our group. You ha amazing job. Many greetingst from Jaroslava a Dušan Tůmovi

Verified reviewWe have just returned from our holiday to the Maldives. We spend 10 days at Sands Garden Hotel, AA. Thoddoo Island. From arrival at the airport to farewell from the hotel, the staff were amazing. On arrival to Thoddoo, we were greeted by the hotel staff, and later, we came to know that it was a hotel manager, Ahmed. Who is always available at the reception to answer our questions. And we always get very important information from him about Maldives tourism and his long journey in the industry. We would say a very customer oriented manager who has good team members, keep it up, guys. Thoddoo is a big island compared to other islands in the Maldives. The population is living in a small area, while the large area is occupied for farming. Thoddoo is very famous for producing water melon, papaya and many vegetables. The island has beautiful beaches, sunset beach and sunrise beach, where we had good relaxation. The lagoon was beautiful, too, with lots of fish, small sharks, and turtles. We stayed in rooms 102 & 105. Verified reviewThe intentions of the manager and potential of the place are good. Also, staff is very friendly and the Maldivian breakfast on Sunday delicious.
Service is not in the basics of what you can expect from other similar stays in the island, even paying a bit more than the average. Pool is dirty and without maintenance, towels are not changed, some rooms are not as in the pictures (they assign others very different if they’re in full capacity, and you have to ask to change), hot water not running well .. Hopefully they improve these details in the future to create a 5 star experience.

Verified reviewThe staff were excellent and I was able to spend a very comfortable time. They also arranged for me to snorkel with manta rays and sharks, which I had requested the day before. There were a lot of sharks nearby and it was great fun. They filled our water bottles every day and cleaned the room. The Wi-Fi, water pressure and air conditioning were all very good. The pool was very clean and I was able to swim. I ate all my meals at the hotel, and they were all delicious and well-balanced, so choosing what to eat was a joy. Karaoke is also available if you wish. The north beach is shallow, close and quiet. The south beach is lively but a bit far away, so I recommend renting a bike ($5/day). There were a variety of fish in both. There are souvenir shops and supermarkets nearby, and they are open until late at night, so I took a walk around. I recommend exchanging your money for MVR before coming to this island. There are massages, but they only take cash.

Verified reviewwe were given a room that was not in accordance with the contract. room with no windows, no balcony, no TV, with a non-working safe. the offer included a swimming pool, so I chose this option... unfortunately it was closed during the entire stay. You had to ask for everything... changing towels, changing the room to the right one, etc
