How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewBeautiful flower garden and view from the balcony. Large balcony, large room, everything you need was in the room. The bed was large and comfortable. We appreciated the equipment - masks and fins, because not every guesthouse has them prepared like that. We liked the good organization of breakfasts in the garden. Maldives or continental breakfast, lots of fruits and fresh juices. Friendly staff. Close to the east beach. What we asked for was provided. Clean. Thank you.
The bathroom is very clean but needs renovation or correction, sometimes there is a strange smell of water. The toilet seat is loose. The room could already be freshly painted. The bedding is of good quality but slowly needs to be replaced. If the above aspects were met - the facility would deserve a rating of 9 or more.

thank u for yor feed back. this is not illegal in maldives but i will explaing u 15.42 this is a fixed rate on BML exchange but they will not sell us doller from the bank if we want to buy $ we have to go for black market & we have to pay all tax for the goverment by only $ & now there is new rouls we shoud exchange 500$ for the goverment bank for evry single turist !! so how can i accept the payment in local rufiyaa in bank rate 15 .42 !!can u answer me ?? & some turists exchange $ by airport like 16.00 rufiyaa & expecting to sel it to the hotel for lower price / so this is the realitty!!!am ali Aseef the manager of sunrise in thoddoo maldives

Verified reviewWe have been travelling a lot and have never witnessed this bizarre customer service giving their guests a genuine feeling of mistrust and not being welcome. To be fair the location and rooms were OK. The breakfast was eatable, no more no less. The mango juice was good. They have free laundry service which works fine. Free snorkling equipment, which is in bad condition. This is as expected when it is free of charge. There was one young man at the place working hard and doing his very best despite the language barrier. He even smiled, which was rare amongst the rest of the staff. Despite this we can't give the place a better rating than 3 out of 10 and we don't understand the current rating this place has. When we arrived at Sunrise Inn the owner had overbooked so we had to stay in another room across the street untill the next day. This despite having booked the room several months in advance. We did not get any prior notice about this. Neither did we get an apology for the trouble. When we contacted the owner about this he did not seem to understand the trouble. To us it was disturbing as we arrived with two children and could not unpack and settle in the first day as we had to move the day after. There is pages hanging around with what you will be charged if you don't behave as they want you to (see attached picture). The daily staff could not answer basic questions, like bike rental and excursions. Everything had to go through the owner who was not present at the place so he had to be contacted through WhatsApp and then you had to go back to the staff again afterwards. We rented bikes, which used to be free but now costs 10$ per day. They gave us "discount" so we paid 5$ per day per person. There is a few good bikes, but the majority of the bikes are in very bad condtition, almost falling apart. Brakes not working, missing pedal, lose handlebars, rusty etc. etc.

You get two bikes per room for free. The rooms are big enough for four people. We really enjoyed our stay here, thanks.

Verified reviewLocation is fine; the guest house is split in two areas (one on each side of the road). We were told one was for families and the other for couples. Either way, the rooms were nice and spacious with a mini fridge (very important), a balcony and a comfy bed. At arrival we were given like 12 litres of water, so we never had to buy any for the rest of the stay. There are also free bicycles, a nice touch. The breakfast was either continental or maldivian (you had to order which one), the maldivian by far the best. Regardless of what you ordered, you also got a plate of fresh fruit.
Our booking (which was made more than one month prior to arrival) fell victim to an overbooking just a few days before our arrival. The manager wrote me a message, offering a later arrival or to stay the first night at another guest house. Everything worked out fine with the other guest house, but ideally that overbooking shouldn't have happened in the first place. When the time came to settle the bill, the manager was a little annoying, insisting to add a 4% service charge unless we paid in cash. I had to remind him that in the description of the guest house, it specifically said that it was free to pay by card. After some haggling he finally caved and said he had "talked to his boss, who were willing to drop the service charge". Sure, whatever. We paid by card, and the price was correct, so that was all good. But having to haggle was annoying.
regarding the review I never anoyying for my guests 😒 I just said u that the bank is charging 3.5 %for bank commission that's why i ask for guests to pay by cash . if u are able that!! u know u paid for the excursion boy 3.5% .! evry hotel charge the commission! regarding over booked we are humen we have some mistakes I provided u a room not far & it's only 1 nigh & free bicycle 🚲 snorkeling kit laundry service drinking water tea coffee most of my guests were thanked cox they appreciated our service there is no any hotel in the world providing these things with out charges so I proud my service here ! that's why I have so many repeaters 😆😆😆 thanks 👌

1. The hotel provides pick-up service for tourists at the pier, but does not offer drop-off service upon departure, which is inconvenient for guests with luggage. There is a leakage issue with the electric kettle in the hotel, posing a potential safety hazard of electric shock.

I've never seen any smiling staff in my 5 days staying including the hotel owner himself. Somehow they all seemed oppressed and withdrawn from something. No one was energized but only gave me negative vibes. The hotel didn’t have a check-in system, so they checked us in without any confirmation And then, on the last night, the owner started to urge me to pay in cash after 22:30 at night. The owner constantly knocked on my door, called, and texted through WhatsApp. I was very scared for my safety as a solo female traveler. I paid in cash the next morning after spending a very scary and intimidating long night because of him. (He's not even aware that it could be very intimidating to a solo female traveler.) Even though my friend had to leave the island 3days earlier due to medical issues, the owner charged both of us 4 days of an environmental fee (their environmental fee is more expensive than other islands, better hotels) Also, the hotel room was very old, including a very big crack in the wall. I had to have the same breakfast for 4 days in a raw with only 2 eggs and sausages or tuna&coconut mix The room boys will make your bed right after they clean up the toilet bins with their bare hands, bad for hygiene Overall, It was the worst experience in terms of safety, service, facilities, and location (15m walk to the main beach) and I’ll never go back to Thoddoo Island again because of my experience at this hotel.

But I have to collect hotel payment! thats why I text her because I know she don't want to pay !!! so I live here with my family 👪 in 1 room & am interested only for my wife !! 😁 You know that u didn't pay the full amount & your friend escaped with out paying the speed boat 😢. We request you do respect our tradition and culture if you visit Thoddoo or any other island in Maldives !! Verified reviewNice hotel and room, quiet AC, near to the sunrise beach, free bikes, near to restaurants and shops, quiet. The island is nice, the sunset beach is nice and there are many turtoises in the water. We recomment to travel with the speed boat to the island (1h from airport, instead of 8 hours with ferry).
Just a minimal point: Breakfast was good, but only had during our stay of 4 days 2 options to choose.
