How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified review🐋 My Review of Whaleshark Beach Hotel, Dhigurah (Maldives) If you're considering a stay in Dhigurah, I recommend Whaleshark Beach Hotel. I couldn’t imagine a better place to stay. 👌🌴 🧳 20+ reasons why I’ll definitely return: 1. Immaculate cleanliness. Both the rooms and shared areas were spotless every day. I personally saw the staff cleaning meticulously – it felt like 5-star hotel standards. 2. Spacious and comfortable rooms. Our room was bright, had a private balcony, great lighting, and most importantly – three full-sized, super comfy beds (10/10!). We also had a smart TV (Netflix, Prime), electric kettle, and fridge – nothing was missing. 3. Exceptional staff. Lola, the hotel manager, was incredibly kind, flexible, and helpful. The whole team was friendly and warm, always going out of their way to assist – be it arranging transfers, providing info about Malé, or anything else. 4. Custom-made breakfasts. Every morning we were served generous breakfasts tailored just for us – fresh, delicious, and so abundant we couldn’t finish it. 5. Delicious food. The cuisine was truly tasty – a mix of local and international dishes. Dinner on the rooftop with butter chicken was simply unforgettable. 6. Free water refill. The hotel provides filtered water stations, so no need to buy plastic bottles – great for both budget and the environment. 7. Top location. Bikini Beach is just 30 meters away – literally a few steps. The island’s village center is also nearby, very convenient. 8. Rooftop dining. Dining under the stars with a view of the Indian Ocean was one of the best experiences of the trip – peaceful and memorable. 9. Well-organized excursions. The hotel offers trips to see whale sharks, mantas, and turtles. We didn’t join due to health reasons, but other guests were thrilled – and showed us amazing videos.
10. Hassle-free transfers. The hotel arranged everything for us – speedboat from the airport and the domestic flight to Malé. Lola delivered exactly what she promised. 11. Great value for money. What we got for the price exceeded expectations. It felt like staying at a luxury resort. Easily one of the best-value accommodations I’ve stayed at. 12. Fast and stable Wi-Fi. The internet worked flawlessly – we streamed Netflix without any buffering. 13. Plenty of activities. Beyond snorkeling and diving, we could rent bikes, go kayaking, or fishing – no chance of boredom here. 14. Perfect for families. Spacious family rooms, kids’ meals, toys – everything was designed with families in mind. 15. Safe environment. The hotel has CCTV, smoke detectors, in-room safes, and night security. We felt secure throughout our stay. 16. Peaceful garden. Relaxing under palm trees in the garden while listening to the waves – exactly what I imagined a holiday should feel like. 17. Affordable local transport. The hotel arranged a trip to a nearby sandbank for just 10 USD – quick and smooth. 18. Multilingual staff. I heard English, Hindi, and German spoken. Communication in English was easy and clear. 19. Attention to detail. Need an iron? Adapter? Umbrella? They provided everything with a smile. Small touches like this go a long way. 20. Quiet air conditioning. The Daikin AC in our room worked perfectly and was so silent I didn’t even notice it running – day or night. 21. Outstanding reviews – well deserved. After returning home, I checked other reviews – and I fully agree. The cleanliness, location, food, and service are all truly excellent. This hotel absolutely deserves its high ratings and is a fantastic choice for both couples and families.

The team was always attentive and truly made the experience unforgettable. The room was very clean, and the transfer from the airport to the hotel was smooth and hassle-free. I highly recommend this place and hope to come back very soon! It was a real favorite for us.

We appreciated it a lot for cooking some vegan food for us outside the standard Menu. The manager of the hotel was absolutely nice and helpful with all the information - she was always in the front row to help us.

Verified reviewLola and her team at the hotel were fantastic. Attentive, friendly, helpful and accomodating to ensure we had the best possible experience. The boat crew led by George were also fantastic and the two excursions we did with them were amazing experiences. Super comfortable boat and very relaxed. George made it clear that there was no guarantee of seeing a Whale Shark but we saw two on the one morning. Next day we swam with Mantas!

Verified reviewFrom the moment we arrived, the staff impressed us with their warm hospitality, knowledge, and outstanding customer service that went above and beyond our expectations. The facilities were spotless, and our room was well-equipped with thoughtful amenities, including a smart TV, a kettle with tea and coffee, and a small fridge. Dining at the hotel’s restaurant was a delight—the food was delicious, and the menu offered a wide variety of options. The staff even arranged a romantic beach dinner for us, which was absolutely unforgettable! The daily breakfast was out of this world, featuring both healthy, locally inspired dishes and classic options like toast, cereal, and fresh dairy products. I highly recommend staying at this little slice of paradise. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay the highlight of our holiday!
Everything perfect !

Verified reviewThe island is exceptional. Very helpful staff. Decent room.
Unfortunately, I discovered a piece of plastic in my omelette. They added an extra fee of 3.5% when paying by card, although when inquired about the possibility of paying by card, they did not mention this. The towels were pretty old.

Verified reviewThe property looks very new and the staff was nice. The island is stunning but starts becoming quite touristic.
Be prepared to pay way more than booking says because of the taxes, service charge etc. Also, if you book the speedboat, you'll find it cheaper if you book it seperately (45 instead of 65+also service charge). The staff on place was super nice but the communication beforehand was terrible. I booked the hote& speed boat in December. A couple of days before I asked if I can come a day earlier, they replied one day later that they didn't have capacity which was fine but they changed my transfer from 4pm to 11am and since I wanted to dive in the morning I wanted to keep the 4 pm. It took me 4 messages, 2 calls from my own phone and 1 call from my previous hotes phone to finally have someone answer and change the speedboat booking back to the right time - no reply before all of my messages and this was until 1 day before changeing islands. Also, my room was on the 3rd floor and I sometimes had ants in my bed. Also if you're diving: the hotel just works with 1 company and they always have a full boat of 20 divers. Depending on the divesite, it is quite crowded.

Verified reviewFood at the hotel was best on the island. Very clean and comfortable rooms.
Room faces the power plant of the island, the windows are single glazed so sometimes can be noisy at nighttime. Diving not very easy to book through hotel - front desk not very helpful with communicating with the dive team at times.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay at Whaleshark Beach and are super happy about our decision as we think it is one of the best or even the best hotel on Dhigurah. My partner has a dairy allergy and we could easily speak to the chef everyday to make clear that the food does not contain any of these. That was amazing. You can fill up your water bottle in the hotel, which seems like a small benefit but it is actually huge as you do not have to go to a store everyday and carry big bottles in the heat. The rooms, the wifi, the staff, everything was really nice. And the hotel has probably the best tour guide and crew you could ask for. We did two full day tours and saw a whale shark, Mantas, turtles and more. We loved that we do not have to jump off the boat. They had a leather or you could easily go from the end of the boat as it was almost the same hight as the water. Again, seems like a small thing but for us it was a big advantage.

Verified reviewEverything about our stay was perfect! The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, always making sure we felt welcome. They even surprised us with a cake in our room to celebrate our honeymoon, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The room was spacious and well-equipped, with all the necessary amenities. There was hot water (though occasionally it got quite hot, so finding the sweet spot was key), and we loved that we could connect our Netflix or Prime profiles to the TV for a relaxing evening. One detail that stood out was the complimentary water fountain available for guests to use, such a refreshing change from places where you're charged for bottled water. The flexibility offered with the excursions was fantastic; it allowed us to enjoy plenty of snorkeling and spot all the local wildlife. We truly wished we could have stayed longer to soak up more of this amazing experience!
