Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

AustraliaThere was a big disagreement between myself and the owner. I paid for an airport pickup. Due to my luggage being lost by the airline I was offered to stop somewhere on the way so I could buy a tshirt and toothbrush, as the driver had told me there was nothing in the area shop-wise. I expected to pay more for his help, but a price was never set. When I arrived I was asked for an additional 55k! We negotiated what I considered a fair price of 70k total for the airport pick up and driving me to town, but by this point the damage was done and I felt taken advantage of. And not that the owner or driver had any intention of assisting me in times of need. The next day I realised driving me for 2 hours around town was completely unnecessary as there were shops and supermarkets within walking distance of the accommodation. I found every other driver I used in Lilongwe was charging significantly less. I stayed twice and on my second visit the room wasn’t very clean.

The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming and helping! They speak good English. Both of me and my friend are vegetarians and they also did a vegetarian breakfast for us.

South AfricaThe road to get here is not suitable for a small car. There are alternate routes with better roads so ensure your Map settings are not on shortest route. The pin dropped takes you to a parrallell road so we had to figure that out. Water from shower was brown. Had to run it for a long while to clear. Bread was stale for breakfast.
Real friendly and welcoming staff. Escorted me to the market to get dinner.

CanadaWe've travelled a lot in East Africa so understand what the rooms are usually like. Still, the booking info did not reflect the actual situation. The a/c was ineffective The Wifi did not work. The mattress had springs poking into our backs. The shower nozzle in the bathroom was broke. No one told us when we arrived how to have hot water so we had cold showers. (The switch was in a different room.) The breakfast was very basic, one egg, two pieces of toast and a sausage. We ate two breakfasts there and the second day there wasn't even butter for toast. No jam or tomato sauce for the one egg, nothing extra.
We thought the staff at Avon were very friendly and helpful!!

NetherlandsThe thing that really bugged us was the host. I am not talking about Moses, he is very kind. It’s the boss that is not helpful as she is simply not responding to questions. I asked where the apartment were since there are several with the same name on Google maps. No response. I asked where we could eat some food. No response. She does respond when it comes to money. She asked more than we should be paying. Which ofcourse we did not. On the phone she was quite nice but over text she is very rude and unhelpful. Also about the accommodation, the location is bad. It’s not a safe part of town, no shops or restaurants nearby. So getting something to eat for dinner without taking a taxi is impossible. The showers are cold. And someone knocked on our door at 06:30 to give us breakfast, it’s ridiculous. The breakfast was two slices of dry bread and one egg. Also very disappointing. Then half an hour later (at 07;00 in the morning!) they knock again to ask for payment. It is really really rude and ridiculous.
It’s a clean and comfortable room. The compound feels safe.
