How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAmazing staff and beautifully cleaned every day. Great area in a quieter part of the island but great restaurants around
It’s a bit tired, but you get what you’re paying for. Cheap by Holbox standards so can’t complain.

Verified reviewWe loved the staff, Nicole and Suemy were awesome! They went out of their way to help us with information, calling taxi, fresh towels and recommendations. Our room was on the third floor surrounded by native trees and birds and we even had a balcony completely enclosed with mosquito screen (so actually usable) and a hammock. The location was great, just one block from the beach and close to a very nice restaurant (La Cabane).
You need to adjust your expectations, it is a simple hotel that covers all the basics without frills or a lot of amenities. The mattress was so-so and the room is small, but if you only come home to shower, rest and sleep and spend most of the time outdoors enjoying paradise, this should be OK. This hotel could use a little updating and sprucing up, but otherwise it is OK. Bring repellent and ear plugs for added comfort.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay at the hotel but it might be too “rustic” for some people. It’s definitely a case of you get what you pay for! You will need to take a taxi from the ferry which costs 200 pesos. Pros Really friendly woman checked us in. She was very helpful and gave us tips for local restaurants and the number of the taxi company so we could book a taxi back to the ferry when we left. She also offered to look after our bags after check out if we needed it (we didn’t as we left the island in the morning). She also allowed us to store our milk and water in the fridge in their kitchen (there isn’t a fridge in the room, but there is a kettle) which was kind. Good air-con and there was a ceiling fan. Inexpensive accommodation – Holbox can be quite pricey for accommodation.
Cons The hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from the main town. We didn’t have hot water the first day. We told reception and they said they would fix this – the next time we used the shower, the water was lukewarm but still not hot, and it stayed lukewarm for the rest of our stay. The bath is painted concrete (I think) and a lot of the paint was chipped off (see photo), so it feels quite grimy. There are mosquito nets on all of the windows but we still had mosquitos in the room every day, despite being careful to quickly close the bedroom & balcony door when entering/exiting the room. The windows in the room (not the balcony doors) just have wooden slats but no glass so noise from the street comes in – and there is constant traffic/music/people being loud throughout the night. Bring earplugs! The wifi was quite slow (and you need wifi as I couldn’t get a phone signal on Holbox – I had roaming with my UK phone and could use it everywhere else in Mexico but nowhere in Holbox) The bed was comfortable, but was suspended on ropes, so every time you moved/turned over, it rocked the bed, waking the other person We were in room 13. Looking at the building from the outside, it seemed that all the other rooms had a hammock on their balcony apart from ours (but that wasn’t a big deal). When we came back one evening (around 8pm I think), the entrance to the hotel was padlocked. We managed to wiggle through the gap to get in. No one had told us this could happen. We later worked out we could enter/exit via the back entrance, but I don’t know why the front was padlocked. (The receptionist had told us that reception would be unstaffed most of the time because it was low-season but she did give us two numbers to call/text if we needed help) On our first morning, the cleaners were blaring music at 8am while they worked which woke us up.

Verified reviewVery close to beach. Nice restaurant and store just across the hotel. Access to a kitchen and a garden where you can sit in the evenings. The rooms are fine and the hanging beds are more comfortable than we thought. Overall this is a good place if you are looking for something simple at a reasonable price in Holbox. Taxi to and from ferry costs just 200 pesos.
The was a lot of garbage in the kitchen.

Verified reviewAmazing location and very friendly staff (Nicole) and, ofcourse, the hanging bed and lovely balcony. It felt really cosy. Great that there was a watertap and a fridge to cool drinks and food. I would definitely return here.
It was a little loud at night with the golfcarts, woke me up a couple of times. I don't know if they drove extra because of the storm the night before but it was noisy.

Verified reviewVery close to the beach which was very lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful too :)
Was a little further out than we thought - would definitely recommend a taxi from the port. But this didn’t hinder our experience. We would recommend walking along the beach to get to the centre (very scenic and safe)

Verified reviewThe receptionist cared a lot of us. The hotel is wonderful! We felt it was the best of our holidays. Also was very close to the bioluminiscense. BUT!
It was IMPOSSIBLE to sleep... really. we where by 2, and if one moved a little bi, the whole bed was moving (cos is hanging). One finished sleeping on the floor! Also, was raining a lot, and was extremely difficult to get to the hotel by walk. you needed the 4x4 taxi. The receptionist told us to go trough the beach, that was very wonderful, but when we left in the morning was a high tide, so we got very wet...

Verified reviewVery friendly staff who offers help when you need it. You have a garden place to sit, and a kitchen with water. Close to the beach and a few nice restaurants to get your fill. If you want to be away from the busy centre, this is a perfect place.

Verified reviewLovely hotel. Nice clean room and bathroom. Was a little far from the ferry port, however the beach adjacent was spectacular.
AC would have been good. However it was being implemented when we were there, which will be a good addition :)
