How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLe propriétaire, Nacho, est super gentil!
-Bad wifi -The room wasn't clean when we got there -Our door lock broke in the middle of our trip and I had to enter by the window twice to open the door from inside. We weren't able to lock it for the rest of our stay -You need to ask for toilet paper -Full of mosquitoes and cockroaches (had to kill 6-8 of them) -The owner's dogs will wake you up barking in the middle of the night or at dawn -If you plan on using the kitchen, it's really dirty -No shower mat -Bathroom is getting wet everywhere because the faucet is dripping -The room smells of humidy. I advise you not to touch the shower curtain aswell. -So humid, nothing is drying. Had to throw 2 pairs of shoes away because it was moldy -Water stoped working 2 times so can't take shower nor going to the bathroom -It's located 12-15 min from the beach

Verified reviewThe guy how runs this place is a nice guy.
Place is dirty and not organised at all. A great idea but the place was just not working.

Verified reviewI would say this place is 'what you see is what you get', but that would be pushing it. The decor is very mexican, there is a shared kitchen, and the surroundings are quiet (around 10mins walking from the centre). Outside patio with hammocks is nice.
It was very disappointing. We knew it was a simple place (we don't need much!), but this place was just... bad. When we arrived no one was there to greet us or tell us which room was ours. The bathroom sliding door didn't close fully (you could hear everything...). There was no shower curtain and the sink tap was constantly leaking; that combined with sand from the patio area meant the bathroom was a muddy mess in under 10 mins (which only got worse as the days went on). We were completely left on our own, not knowing who worked there from day 1, so when our toilet paper finished we had to go into a working shed on site and take some ourselves.
Good evening Teresa, on Wednesday at 5:30 a French guy named Mehi attended you. He was in charge of showing you the room. I don't think it took long to offer you the room. The truth is that I wasn't there, I was in Cancun. Therefore I left a manager and I think that you have been treated very well, the fact that you went to look for the toilet paper in the shed, this does not have to say anything. You could call me, I was always here all the time all Thursday all Friday all Saturday. very sorry . Upon your departure I stopped by to greet them and informed them of the taxi prices. It goes without saying that no one was there, we have crossed paths several times during your stay, a cordial greeting. Nacho

Verified reviewIt has nice garden
The room wasn’t clean and there was mold. Because of that the smell was really unpleasant. Additionally, there were lots of mosquitos and no mosquito net was provided. We also had cold water 2 of 3 days. Last but not least, couldn’t reach the host when we arrived. Other guests helped us find him to get into the room.

Verified reviewThe atmosphere was great, and the host was very friendly and gave us some tips where to eat and what to see. We loved hammock a lot. The location is good, the room was clean and tidy.
The only downside was that the kitchen was a bit neglected. So it needs a bit of improvement.

Better lightning for reading. Suggest putting a chair or stool in the room for sitting. Two towels and provide a hand towel or washcloth. Very basic!

Verified reviewThe owner made us a great Italian dinner, which we paid for. The owner is very nice
We had no electricity or water for the whole of the first day. We had to ask for a candlelight. I know it is a local problem, but maybe there is a way to deal with it.

Verified reviewExcellent budget option in Holbox - don't look elsewhere! The room was quite big for two people and the bed was huge! We loved the location, just a 15 min walk from the ferry and only two blocks from Holbox beach, as well as the center with restaurants and bike rentals. t's also midway between Punta Mosquito and Punta Cocos, just about a 10 min bike ride. The highlight though was the staff, extremely kind and always available to help! Thanks a lot Nacho and Luis :)
Thank you very much for being here with us with some very special clients. Thank you very much for recommending us.

Verified reviewIt was a nice and comfortable stay, within walking distance of the center. The air conditioning worked well and was definitely a need.
The wifi didn't work well and there were a lot of mosquitoes, but that was the case on all of Isla Holbox.

Verified reviewI loved the personality of this place. It feels more like you’re getting a feel of the local culture than if you stay at a resort. The art on the walls is beautiful, the room is comfortable and clean, the people are lovely, and I loved lying in the hammock just outside my room. My favourite moment was when the older man who works there came over to where I was on the hammock and made me a little bird woven from a pond frond.
It’s a little removed from the town.

The workers and drilling noise in the back garden but it didn’t ruin our stay regardless

Verified reviewVery affordable. Lovely family running the hotel. Kitchen has everything you need. There is a small market down the road where we would go everyday to have fresh juice and delicious lunch !
Perhaps a bit far from the centre - about a 10 min walk which may not seem like a lot but in the heat it feels like a lot. No ammenities other than a kitchen and 3 hammocks.
