Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelThey sometimes shut the water in the rooms so you can't shower or even wash your face, and it could be at random times of the day. Second of all, the main pool, the big one, wasn't really clean. It had a lot of stuff coming down from the plants surrounding it, and they didn't really clean it. And the third thing was, it was a bit far from the city center and from the Zona Hotelera, so it's better to have a car with you
Me and my wife stayed in hotel bardo for our honeymoon. . The rooms are large and spacious, they kept it really clean. The staff was really nice and helpful, and we had the villa with the private pool, which was really nice and romantic.

CanadaConsistency with the drinks was very disappointing. I ordered the 'Bardo' four times, hoping it would improve, but the last time it was so overloaded with lime I couldn’t even drink it. It’s quite shocking how different the same drink could be each time.
The quietness of Bardo was much appreciated. The calm, almost boho-chic style of the environment was soothing. Pool environment felt like we were in the jungle, yet clean with just enough sun. Rooms were private and the heated pool we had was well worth the added cost.

CanadaThe yoga was a nice, but I wish they would have had flow classes when I was there as I needed a bit more exercise / movement there after all my long beach walks during the previous days. I found it very odd that the restaurant didn’t come retrieve the room service dishes automatically each day. I had to pile them up in my bathroom and hope that no bugs or lizards would find their way to them. Actually there was a lizard in my room one night and someone from the hotel quickly came to help me remove it (successfully) but then I realized at any time a lizard or big or snake or creepy crawly could have easily come in through the space around the outdoor shower glass door. I think that’s a poor design…especially for mosquito access guys! You need to fix that and seal it better! I did walk to town a couple days. And it was a short (not pretty)walk, less than 10 mins. I wasn’t too impressed with the town of Tulum, it needs a lot of work and upgrades. I preferred the shops and restaurants near the beach area. There is a garbage problem in the Tulum area which is really unfortunate. You will see it if you leave the hotel or resort / touristy areas. Garbage dumped randomly everywhere at the side of the road and in the trees and jungle. I have a really hard time seeing that and it just confirms how corrupt and unbalanced things are there. With the amount of tourism dollars coming into that area I would expect better sanitation. Don’t be shocked to see how incredibly poor that entire area is when you leave the glitz and glamour where the money is. However, I didn’t feel unsafe walking around in the daytime. Just a word of caution, many of the hotels, including this one, won’t allow you to flush your toilet paper, but rather expect guests to place it in a basket in the toilet room. This was a bit shocking to me but it is a third world country after all and they don’t have proper plumbing or infrastructure…even if you are paying $700/night.
I can’t say enough good things about Hotel Bardo. The staff were phenomenal, especially the reception staff (Fernando, Leo). The main pool area has a perfect vibe with chill lower volume music, amazing cocktails, beautiful bar, excellent service. The villas are beautiful and I loved my private heated plunge pool and private little fenced yard space. I had room service for several meals and it was fantastic. I also ate a couple times in the restaurant area. The food is delicious. Quick service. Martin was a great server! During my visit in the area, I stayed at the beach half the time and this property for the other half. I honestly wish I’d have stayed at Bardo for my entire 8 night trip. I could seriously just hang out there all day. However, it depends on what type of vacation you are on. My purpose was truly to unplug and rest and recharge from my busy stressful job. This is a great place to stay for that purpose. I participated in the Temezcal ceremony on my first night and it was both reflective and challenging. The Shaman, Diego, was outstanding in guiding us through the dark, the heat and our senses and emotions. Highly recommended. Drink lots of water!

United KingdomFew pointers.. the hotel did take a holding amount on a credit card on arrival - wasn’t aware this would be the case.. Was charged what they called an environmental tax on leaving - we stayed at two other hotels also in Tulum which didn’t charge this.. The hotel was very expensive to eat/drink hot drinks in- 2 lattes = 10.00., just to be aware. Maybe the offer of inclusive breakfast would be a good option to add . This didn’t spoil our holiday as gave us opportunity to explore some wonderful local restaurants .. and the local bakery at end of road.
The hotel and surroundings are beautiful - our room was gorgeous and we had a lovely relaxing time..

AustriaFood & Service: A Missed Opportunity The most glaring disappointment was the food. While not bad, it was uninspired and lacked variety. Presentation, flavour, and creativity were all underwhelming, making it difficult to justify staying in for meals. This ultimately broke the immersion, as we often opted to eat elsewhere. Service was friendly but inconsistent. Miscommunications were frequent, even in Spanish, and small details were overlooked. For instance, room service trays were left uncleared for days, and orders were sometimes incorrect. While these issues were minor in isolation, they added up to a service experience that felt unpolished. My personal Rating: A+ (Very good, with clear potential to become pristine)
Hotel Bardo immediately impresses with its secluded, jungle-inspired retreat concept. Tucked away on the outskirts of Tulum, it offers an intimate and tranquil atmosphere, enhanced by thoughtful architecture that seamlessly blends concrete, wood, and lush greenery. The villa-style accommodations provide complete privacy, featuring personal plunge pools and open-air showers—details that contribute to the overall sense of relaxation. The hotel’s 24/7 pool and soft lounge music add to the meditative, almost dreamlike atmosphere. As a dedicated "do-nothing" vacation, the hotel delivered on peace and serenity. However, a few key areas fell short of its high-end image. Standout Positives & Final Verdict Despite the food and service shortcomings, the hotel excels in its serene atmosphere, well-designed accommodations, and immersive retreat-like setting. The ability to swim at any time was an unexpected luxury, and the spa was a highlight—one of the best massages I’ve had. Expanding the wellness offerings could further elevate the experience. Hotel Bardo is close to being extraordinary. With a refined dining experience, more attentive service, and an expanded spa, it could easily achieve a truly seamless luxury retreat status. Would I return? If these aspects improve, absolutely—I’d book three weeks.

United StatesThe property was beautiful - every detail was thought through, from the landscaping to the design of the pool to the gorgeous set up of the rooms themselves. While we ventured out for most meals, the on-site food was tasty and the fact that room service was only a WhatsApp message away made everything super easy.

We barely felt the need to leave the property and spent most of our trip enjoying the awesome food and drinks by the pool. Would absolutely recommend and can’t wait to go back.

United StatesThe one complaint I have about this place was that there wasn't coffee in the room. Although room service was available and quick to respond, we had to pay for every (tiny) french press we ordered. I think it was $6 USD for one small french press (equliant to 2 cups of coffee) and we ordered at least 3 each morning.
We LOVED this place and will be coming back! The fact that it is tucked back in the jungle and each suite was so secluded from all the others, we felt like we had the place to ourselves! The staff was over-the-top helpful and offered great recommendations! We loved the room and that the shower was outdoors :) The plunge pool was a great add and we felt 100% safe here. I practiced yoga in the shala and they offered a lot of classes and had excellent food/drinks at the restaurant. We rented a scooter for 2 days and had a blast exploring the city and cenotes this way. We also spent an entire day at the sister hotel, Milam, which was OUT OF THIS WORLD and free for Hotel Bardo guestss!! We booked a massage there and had the whole place to ourselves!! It was incredible!!!!

United KingdomWe had a private plunge pool outside our villa which, although a nice touch, wasn’t heated. The main pool is also not heated but gets enough sunlight to get a bit warmer. Unfortunately our villa outside area was shaded so the pool water stayed very cold during our entire stay, and therefore we didn’t use it during our stay. It would also have been nice if breakfast had been included as standard, which is usually the done thing in Europe when you stay at a luxury hotel. The price of the room is very expensive, so getting breakfast included in the price would be a nice touch.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. We came to stay for a few nights for our honeymoon and had a fabulous time. The villa itself is comfortable, with a living room area, huge bed and gorgeous bathroom. The surrounding communal areas are also so beautiful and atmospheric, with a jungle theme. The pool is wonderful and sun loungers etc very comfortable. The staff are so welcoming and cannot do enough to make your stay exceptional. They are a real credit to Bardo. We had some lovely cocktails at the hotel bar too! The food and drink was very expensive which soon added up, so you do need to take that into consideration when staying here.

Surrounded by greenery, butterflies and birds but what made this stay the best is the attentive staff.
