How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Check in included one key for 4 people, mind you, you can get into the room even without the key, because the balcony is accessible from other rooms - and the door to the balcony doesn't lock, and has holes in the mosquito net so it's useless. Only one place for power outlets in the entire room. No closest, wardrobe, or drawers to put personal items on, just a single square table with 2 chairs next to the outlets Only one lightblub for the entire room, the other one was burned out. Beds have terrible mattresses, one on top of the other, making the sleep experience very uncomfortable. No AC, which makes the 2 fans on the wall the only saving grace - it gets unbearably hot during the nights, most of us had trouble sleeping. The water stream in the shower is very weak, one temp only. The toilet has no seat or cover, and the back compartment is covered with cardboard The sink is cracked, probably has been broken before and glued together, making it feel like it's going to fall apart every time we used it. Looks nothing like the pictures, only one small bin in the bathroom and no place to dispose of trash otherwise. The room is exposed to the street so from the early morning expect loud noises coming from vehicles nearby. Owners and staff: At check in, they gave us a hard time, not letting us put personal items and bags in their lobby / store to stow away, same during check out - just saying "check out is check out". During our stay, they kept asking us to move our motorcycle to different parking spots, claiming we're going to get a ticket - for the same places they initially told us to park in. Very rude in general, horrible experience.

They are scammers. We wanted to stay for 4 nights however wasn't sure about the last night. We waited for the head accountant to ask her. She told us that if we pay by cash we would get the money back if we wanted to leave a day early. The third day came, we went down in the morning and were confronted with pure denial and stubbornness. They started to lie and told us that that isn’t possible. I told them that it’s not right for the clients to pay for their mistake. Nothing could get them to admit their mistake. At the end, we left without any refund. One of the other office worker insulted my partner in Spanish “she yaps and doesn’t shut the fuck up” which she said assuming that I didn’t understand. On top of that, the room next to the road is unbearable to sleep in. Trucks are so loud they shook the old raggedy mattresses. In our first room there was rat feces on the bed. The toilet was missing a seat. Shower doesn't have warm water even though we were promised about it. The fan so loud so it was a choice between that or the heat, either of which lead to bad sleep. Look, my partner and I backpacked through Mexico for two months. We slept in rotting palapas, hostels with black mold, and apartments with no water to flush the toilet for a couple of days. However I warn everybody who reads this because it was their lack of respect and responsibility that made us so frustrated with this place. The money is not worth the place and no money is worth the lack of integrity from the workers.

Verified reviewGreat location, next to the main road and a few meters away from the entrance of the main street leading to the beach. Great staff, very considerate and friendly. The rooms are very clean.
There is no AC and the ceiling-mounted fan is either OFF or 100% ON, which makes a awful lot of noise. The mattress is old and shrunken in some places, which makes it not so confortable.

The first room we received had horrible beds and the room was stuffy but we were very happy with the effort made by Marcelino to find a solution to have better beds so we could sleep since the first night we only slept a couple of hours. We couldn't work if we couldn't sleep so glad there was an option to change.

Verified reviewLocation is amazing - less than 5 mins to Mazunte beaches, 15-20 min walk to San Augustillo. The staff were friendly, offered to change our sheets free of charge Very quiet place, lots of seating outdoors and on balconies Nice to have a private bedroom and bathroom for the price of a hostel elsewhere
The rooms were very hot, even with the fan, it was too hot for two people The beds weren’t overly comfortable- would be better with some new pillows! There were lots of ants and we did have a scorpion one night in our room, although I don’t think this is common!

Verified reviewThe owners are nice people. They let me change rooms to a quieter one. If your room is not right on the street it may be one of the quieter places in Mazunte. Collectivo to San Augustinillo beach - or walk, it's not far. Zipolite is a big "scene" about five minutes further by collectivo. Some organic foods available next to the internet shop, both two minutes walk from Cabanas Abril. Laundry service is also close. There's a turtle rescue operation in town, too.

The room is very hot, the service is bad, there is no kitchen, when we asked to leave the things for a few hours after check out, they did not agree to us and we had to take all the bags to the street and lie there for hours

BAIT AND SWITCH. NO SUPPORT FROM BOOKING.COM The room I reserved did not have the things they said it had, when I contacted Booking.com, twice, they said they would support me, contact the owner and rectify the situation. They never did, and then they dropped the complaint without any follow up. Booking.com said the room had a lock box for valuables, a bidet, a flat screen TV with satellite channels. No room in the entire hotel has any of these features. On top of that they charged me more than quoted on my reservation receipt. I was told I could leave (and lose my one night's deposit) if I didn't like the room
