How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe walk up to the hotel is really only 5 minutes it’s easy, and once you’re there, the view is spectacular!! We loved our stay here, it’s amazing for the price. Pool is also really nice, and there’s a filtered water machine with cold or hot drinking water.
When we arrived in town we struggled to find the property. I called and messaged them so many times over 3 hours with no answer, we just had to go have lunch in town and wait for them to get back to us. Keep in mind, the hotel is slightly dated, however it’s very fairly priced with such an amazing view. I recommend parking by the visitors centre and walking up.

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved the view. Every day it was like waking up in paradise. Pool was a very comfortable temperature. Rooms were relatively simple, but we spent most days at the beach anyway so that was fine. Great value for money.
The bed has one of those plastic covers around the mattress, while this is sanitary, it’s uncomfortable especially with the heat. The pillows were also really uncomfortable and made me and my bf wake up with a stiff neck every morning. The bed was directly under the AC which also isn’t the most comfortable and healthy as it gave me an AC cold.

Verified reviewLoved the view, the pool, our little balcony, and the overall vibe of the property. It is high up a hill so you do have to hike up and down - fine with me but not suitable for anyone with disabilities. The bed was a bit small for two people, but it was comfortable enough. Worth it for the views.
Small bed and the bedding could have been more comfortable.

Verified reviewLovely pool and view of the sea.
The beds felt like strange blow up mattresses with mattress topper. Was fine but not the best

Verified reviewThe view, the pool and friendly staff
Dangerous roads to walk either from the cemetery (very slippery) or stairs entrance (100+). Building is neglected (bathroom, pool). Beds were not comfy

Verified reviewGood location, walking distances to both beaches and the town. Host was helpful when asking for travel tips to next location.
There is not hot water, which isn’t a huge deal in 30 degree heat. They did run out of water though, which meant the showers, sinks, toilets etc were out of order.

Verified reviewThe views from our room were breathtaking and the accommodation was walking distance from the beach and the main areas of the town.
The shower had no hot water. We had to pay for our stay onsite and not via booking.com. When we got there we were told that we'd need to pay an extra 5% to use a card and there are only 2 ATMs in Mazunte and they generally don't work. According to the Comisión Nacional para la Protección y Defensa de los Usuarios de Servicios Financieros (CONSUDEF), it is not permitted for vendors to charge any extra commission on card payments. When we confronted them about this, they told us that it does not apply to them since they're not using a bank. I checked with CONSUDEF and it does, in fact, apply to them.

Verified reviewThe hotel has a great view and it's a nice place to get away from the heat below - sit by the pool and feel the breeze. The staff are very kind and helpful.
As many have said, it's a real hike to lug luggage up the stairs, but it's only once! Note - "mountain view" means you face away from the amazing outlook and sort of into some trees. It's not terrible, but it's not a "view".

Having breakfast included or available would be nice and access to getting a coffee on the property. There are a lot of stairs to reach the property.

Verified reviewComfy bed, great balcony with a view and nice to have air con! The view is amazing and it’s nice to have a pool! Would stay again.
Bit hard to find and it doesn’t say that if you’re driving in there’s a really steep road in so beware of that. Otherwise if you’re walking it’s located centrally but a walk up a hill to get there.

It’s a bit of a hike getting there.

Verified reviewThis hotel is obviously an ongoing labour of love, apparent by all the small details around the building. It has a wonderful cabana/terrace with beautiful sweeping views where you can relax in loungers or hammocks after a dip in the pool. Also the rooms all have balconies with views. Set up in the hills surrounded by nature.
The only drawback for some people would be the inconvenience of not having parking at the door. There is free parking at the tourist office at the bottom of the hill but then there’s a walk up a road and about 100 steps or more up to the property. Not recommended for anyone with suitcases but perfect for people who travel lightly (we had backpacks) and adventurers as this is a little oasis set above the town. We are in our late 60’s and had no issue with the climb.

Verified reviewThe view from the hotel is amazing (and well worth the few steps up there!). The pool was a great addition on a hot day and the staff are lovely, they cleaned our room everyday and made sure the refillable water was always topped up.
Nothing! If you need to borrow items from the kitchen you can ask, but there is a missed opportunity for a breakfast up on the balcony as there are great views and lots of furniture :)
