How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis was a wonderful experience being able to stay in a small rural village. The first impression is of a beautiful garden with lots of trees and birds. Luis was a great host so helpful and informative. Both about the birds and plants in the garden and places to see things to do in the area. His recommendation to be at Chichen Itza by 8am was a good one, it was so quiet at that time. Breakfast was amazing, each day something different. The room is simple but totally in keeping with the experience.

Verified reviewLuis and his family were such an amazing hosts. Luis property was excellent. We had a choice of Mayan room with traditional roof and authentic outside bathroom or normal room with inside bathroom. Both rooms were air conditioned. The property boasted fruit trees and there were an abundance of bird sounds. Luis got a big box of Lego out for our 5 year old son to play with and offered him many books to read. Luis and his wife made us the best breakfast made using his own ingredients. We had fresh fruit with yoghurt and nuts, freshly made croissants and cinnamon rolls and the greatest scrambled eggs mixed with Mayan Spinach which is grown in their garden. Lovely coffee too. The property is located on 5 minutes from Chinchen Itzá and is incredible value for money. I don’t usually write reviews but felt compelled to write this as it was a brilliant nights stay, we were well looked after and it was five minutes from Chichen Itza so we could get there for 8am opening and avoid the crowds and heat.

I would like to share my experience, because I don't want anyone to be fool like i was. The owner built 2 rooms in the back of his house, they look more like outhouse than rooms, he calls them bungalows THEY ARE NOT. His house is located in a really bad area, with trash everywhere, no place to park, dirty and unsafe. Loose dogs everywhere. No signs indicating the house. Took us 40 minutes to find it. He tries to justify the horrible place by saying that it's in the middle of the jungle. Is not. It's located in a residential area. We decided not to stay because we felt unsafe, i was charged $150.00 for one night a total ripped off. We decided to go to a real, decent clean hotel named Ik Kil with real bungalows, beautiful area with access to the Cenote for free. Great service and food. Booking refused to refund any money, I would never book or use Booking for anything again, they are not going to protect you at all. Hard to believe that Booking even offers a place like this. I wouldn't stay at this place even if it was for free.
Hola Mrs Lupe I think probably that the resevation was made for the wrong property but that was not our decision. we display a very exact description, photos and information about the place we offer , where is located and who we are. we are not trying to full anyone. We are a small guest house (not a corporative hotel.) in a real mayan village near mayan site. There are many guests comments about us and the village where we live and its life style. I am sorry you felt unsafe. But there is been people from all over the World in here the last 8 years and they have been just fine . comments talk about it . Your reservation was full refundable up to 2 days before arrival. The room rate was $60 usd plus tax , breakfast included per room. We had your 2 rooms ready even at 12 pm when you arrived. ( even check in is 3pm) But you didnt want even to look at it. We tryed to resell the rooms for the same day in order to autorize a refund for you but it didnt happen. booking just applyed cancelations policies as it shows on your reservation.

Verified reviewLuis is an exceptional host. While fairly basic conditions, the room is air-conditioned + a standing fan can be used. The bed is very comfy and the lighting is good. The detached shower and toilet are reached by going outside, only a few steps away. The surrounding lush garden is filled with birds. Breakfast was excellent: fresh fruit, bread, yogurt + granola, we had tacos with cochinita pibil, and freshly squeezed juice. Close to Chi’chen Itza. Good restaurant in the village with very friendly staff within easy walking distance.
You may hear some barking dogs from the neighbors, but they didn’t interfere with our sleep.

Verified reviewThe bungalow is in a small, very cute garden, with fruit trees, a little pond, tropical birds come to visit. The hosts live opposite and take care of you extremely well. The breakfast was fresh, very tasty and copious. It is in a village with a nice little restaurant and bakery. A great option to visit Chitchen Itza from.
The address on Booking.com was not the one to use for directions - check with the host before navigating.

If there were no Google maps, it would be very hard to find the bungalow in the neighborhood. I might miss it due to the dark but I haven't seen any sign.

Verified reviewThe host is exceptional. Extremely nice and knowledgeable; we learned a lot just by chatting with him. He gave us an awesome breakfast in the morning; one of the best I’ve ever had (and I am quite the breakfast connoisseur). 😅
You are in the middle of the jungle, so there are animal noises and bugs. It didn’t bother us because we figured it would be like that, but just be aware if that is something you don’t want to put up with.
