Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Very cozy and laidback, just like Bacalar itself, with superb staff (Emmanuel, Samantha) who made us feel right at home. On the first night they invited us to a local party where we had the best time ever and really got to experience Mexican hospitality. Very central location - only a short walk to the the town square and the lake. Comfy rooms, excellent breakfast. There's also a lush garden with a nice pool to cool down and plenty of shade with hammocks and loungers.

United KingdomNothing! It was perfect!
We loved EVERYTHING about this wonderful hotel! The staff were so incredibly helpful and made us feel so welcome. It was beautifully and tastefully designed and the rooms were very comfortable too; slept very well! The pool was lovely too. We paid an extra 200 pesos each morning for breakfast, and the food was delicious: great value too. The staff also helped us booked a fantastic trip on the lagoon. Bacalar was just the most wonderful place; a short 10 min walk either into town or to the lagoon. I wish we’d had more than two nights. I loved everything about this hotel… especially Nico the Skeleton!

MexicoThe AC didn't cool as it should, the room was a bit dark, not enough natural light or lights in the room.
The breakfast was great for a similar price of any restaurant outside, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful.

The best hotel we stayed at in Mexico! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed – especially by Pablo, who was super kind, patient, and gave us all the information we needed about the hotel and the area. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a relaxing vibe, a lovely pool, and cozy sitting areas that make you want to just stay and unwind. Our room was spacious, clean, and charming, the bed was super comfortable, and it had everything we needed for a perfect stay. We also booked a lagoon tour through the hotel, which was amazing! And of course, we can’t forget Bimba – the sweetest dog ever, who totally added to the experience :)

The staff are amazing they are very helpful with helping guests navigate Bacalar. They made me and my family feel welcome and special honored guests. The service is amazing each of the staff take on the role of a concierge service. They even provided recommendations for our upcoming stay in Tulum.

BelizeWe should have stayed longer....
Breakfast, room and location were great. However, the attitude and willingness of the Staff (Samantha & Pablo) to ensure an enjoyable stay for the guests was 'First Class.' I was slightly concerned about parking but there is plenty of areas to park outside the hotel on the road side. The hotel helped us book a number of excursions: a boat trip & a paddle board sunrise trip on the lagoon. Both these excursions were brilliant, even for our 'Mature Complete Novice Paddle Boarder group'... In short, I certainly recommend staying at Casa Chukum and would return without hesitation.

EstoniaMinor things that stop me from giving 10 out of 10: - breakfast is not included and for 200 pesos you'll get better breakfast outside the hotel. - having a hair dryer in the room would be better instead of having to ask for it from the front desk. - the door code didn't work so coming in later at night meant we had to wake up the owners to let us in which felt a little uncomfortable.
Beautiful property, amazing lobby area and truly wonderful sociable staff. Also the animals were great to have around, especially little Meserito (I love cats). The location is great, not totally central, but in Bacalar basically everything is walking distance. Also appreciated it was quiet with not much outside noise. Nice little extras like the local sweets in the room, the map at the front desk to mark where you're coming from and the small surprise they give you at checkout.

Such a nice, artsy hotel! I enjoyed my short stay there a lot, with two different terraces, one of them the rooftop with view to the laguna. The staff was very nice and helpful, already before my stay when I asked them about tours there via message. Thank you Emmanuel. =)

United StatesThere are a couple of dogs that hang out in the lobby/restaurant of the property. One in particular, a very large black lab mix, smells really bad to the point we didn’t partake in the breakfast each morning. We love dogs but they need to be routinely bathed especially when they live indoors in a hot environment.
Location to restaurants.
