    No criticisms

This was our second time to stay at this property. The owner and staff were beyond accommodating, kind and pampered us. They actually brought our breakfast to our private patio and constantly checked with us for any needs. The courtyard outside our room is lovely and well tended with many plants and an avocado tree and loved watching the hummingbirds while we had breakfast. The location is convenient and walkable to Centro. And there was little street noise. We have recommended it to many friends.

    I loved all of it.

This place is great, so clean and comfortable with a good continental breakfast. The room size was great and includes a fan and TV. The host Alberto is so friendly and accommodating. The accommodation is walkable distance to the main attractions. If I ever travel back to San Miguel de Allende, I will not hesitate to book this place again.

Room cleaning was planned for every 3rd day, but turned out to be sporadic and infrequent.. Hot water took a long time to reach our room, it is wasteful. Bathroom sink tap needs repair. Ceiling light in the dining room is inadequate to read or work at the table.

The location in the Graudalope neighbourhood is very good, quiet, pretty area, safe, easy walk to Central. The interior garden is lovely, relaxing. We enjoyed 24/7 access to the kitchen, dining & living rooms. Staff & Owners are helpful and pleasant.

Casa Matia is outstanding. My room was large, bright and airy. The bed was very comfortable. The terrace outside my room was an amazing place to sit and enjoy the beauty of the garden below. The staff are friendly and helpful. The property is located a short ten minute walk to the historic center and located in a neighborhood with incredibly beautiful murals. There are several small grocery stores close by and numerous restaurants including a fantastic bakery and yet the neighborhood is extremely quiet. If you are looking for a comfortable, quiet oasis where you can relax then this is the place.

There were no negatives for us.

There wasn't anything that we didn't like! When we arrived we were in disbelief that this would be our stay for the next four nights. All spaces were immaculately maintained and beautifully aesthetic. The property is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, offering a lovely green space to relax and enjoy the wonderful birds it attracts. In the evening the yard was a magical delight, lit up with low level lighting throughout. The communication from the hosts was extremely organized and welcoming. The ladies who arrived early morning to set up breakfast and tend to any of the accommodation needs, were an absolute delight.

I did not like that it required a taxi/Uber to see the tourist sites. I did not like the shooting nearby that had 10 people killed.

I liked the garden setting. The only place that I experienced this. I liked the spacious room. I liked the breakfast room and the food offered. I liked that there were good restaurants/bakery nearby.

The neighborhood has a house that played loud rock music that could be heard in the Casa Matia courtyard garden. I believe the music was coming from a live band practicing in their garage as I heard it passing by a house located a couple of doors down on Estrelita street.

Casa Matia is centrally located and within walking distance of the Plaza Allende, historical district, and the Fabrica Aurora. The host Alberto was quick texting me answers to my questions and helpful with arranging my transportation to the Queretaro airport for my early morning flight. I enjoyed every minute of my stay at Casa Matia and at breakfast when I chatted with the other guests staying there. I had a fun time in San Miguel de Allende. Sitting in the lovely courtyard garden in Casa Maria was an escape from the busy streets and city. I would stay again at Casa Matia on my next visit to San Miguel de Allende.

As I was there for 9 days, the breakfast offerings got a little monotonous. Also, late one afternoon I stupidly locked myself out of my room with no phone and no purse and could not find an emergency contact number anywhere in the kitchen/dining/entry area and no other guests were present. It took some creativity and the help of a kind neighbor to track down the owners, who came quickly to let me back in, but I spent an anxious hour or so.

Casa Matia was a wonderful oasis in the city. The courtyard garden was so beautiful and relaxing. My room at the back of the garden was also very quiet (unusual for Mexico). The room was well-appointed and the decor throughout the property was thoughtfully done. The housekeeping staff was very conscientious, although I had to rely on Google translate and my minimal Spanish to communicate with them.

The breakfast was basic. Yogurt, sliced papaya and cantaloupe, toast. We bought eggs and cooked them in the morning. A few pastries would have been nice. The only serious negative item was the strange setup to get hot water in the shower, at least for that room. Yes, there was hot water, but it was impossible to achieve a comfortable temperature for more than a few seconds. Most of the time it was too hot or too cold. It bothered my wife more than me.

The hosts Alberto and his wife are very nice and conscientious. Alberto's English is very good and he was always willing to engage in interesting conversation. Any little thing we asked for he did it immediately or very soon. We were in the first floor room which is across from the kitchen and lounge area. Very convenient and the lounge was a nice place to get away. The garden in the back is extensive and very pretty. Alberto said to make yourself at home and we had full access to the kitchen for cooking. The neighborhood is genuine old mexican. It's the Guadalupe neighborhood. Lined with walled residential compounds. Narrow sidewalks and cobblestone streets. Not the best if you have weak ankles. Children, pets, churches, singing, Street vendors small shops, all that stuff. It's about a 15-minute walk into San Miguel center. We found the walk in the neighborhood to be pleasant and safe day or night. We had a rental car and street parking was readily available. Groceries and Provisions at Oxxo is Just 4 minutes walk away. Smaller shops are even closer.
