How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is perfect. The hotel is located directly opposite the El Chepe train station on the edge of the canyon. From the lobby and the restaurant you have a perfectly spectacular view into and over the canyon. The room also offers the same good view (but not all rooms!), and in front of the window a small balcony, perfect for relaxing in good weather.
The room had the furnishings of a youth hostel from the sixties. No comfort (no TV, no hairdryer, no box, primitive bathroom) and apparently no investment for decades. We had bad weather (bad luck for March) and had to rely on the untrustworthy gas heating. In view of the quality on offer, the price is an imposition, about a factor of 4 too high. This also applies to the evening meal: There is only a short slot of one hour, no choice (only one menu) and a completely inflated price. But as a guest, there's no avoiding it! We can only advise everyone to stay overnight in Creel and visit Divisadero and the canyon by cab as Day Trip, it is online 45km!

Verified reviewAmazing views.
Room was very poor and needs a lot of restoration. Parts of the bathroom ceiling were lying on the shower floor. Beds were not comfortable. Heating was by an old gas heater in the room . This is not something I was comfortable with for safety reasons. Also it kept flicking on and off and BANGING and CLANKING all night , it was impossible to sleep. I would have turned it off even though it was very cold only there was no way to do that . Breakfast was very poor. There is nowhere else to eat near so if you do decide to come here bring your own food. The views from the room were amazing but I couldn’t stay there another night even for this.

Verified reviewLocation was excellent, great to see the sunrise from our balcony overlooking the copper canyon.
Breakfast, included in reservation so we went there. It was poorly organised and staffed. Priority appeared to be given to customers on a tour. Waited a long time to have order taken, did not receive what I ordered and had to ask for cutlery, toast given but no butter, fruit mushy and unappealing. Worst breakfast in 21 day trip in Mexico.

Verified reviewFabulous location right on the cliff. Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was fine. Room was comfortable enough.
The price. We paid $712 CAD for 2 nights. Bathroom smelled mildly like septic field. The dinner (extra cost) had no options, was expensive and barely mediocre. And there is nothing else anywhere nearby. We skipped lunch both days and walked 45 minutes to have dinner elsewhere the second night. Far, far too expensive for what it was.

Verified reviewThe only reason you stay here, is for the room with balcony with the canyon view. Especially the sunrise is great watch8ng from your balcony. O, and it is oppositie the El Chepe train station, which is very handy.
The hotel is old and in need of an update from the 1970's to this century. The price is way too high for the poor and old state of the rooms.

Verified reviewThe location, The guide Martin who took us for a walk was excellent.
The Food was near uneatable, the Bar and restaurant staff didn’t care, living off its location. Needs new management with a better attitude and know how to make guests feel welcome with better Food!!

Verified reviewThe location is everything. The views exceptional
Desk clerk who checked us in was incredibly rude and accusatory. Claimed that we hadn’t paid for one breakfast for our party. I paid for it in cash, but then when I reviewed my booking I had paid for it. Prices for dinner meal were incredibly inflated. Server and bartender were very efficient and friendly.

Verified reviewWow this place is amazing. Absolutely stunning views right from your room and the bar and restaurant. 1 minute walk from the train station. I would stay here everytime I came.
The restaurant could use up to date dinner menus. Was never sure what they had or didn't each night.

Verified reviewThe view from the hotel is outstanding. It's one of the only hotels right on the canyon edge. Plus it's just steps from the Divisadero station. I woke up for sunrise and saw the spectacular view from outside my room.
It is pricey as rooms are dated and old, and the dinner menus are also expensive.
