Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaAs a solo traveler they took the time to orientate me to the city. They gave me lot of tips and advice. It was within a nice walking distance to the things I wanted to see. Coco (the dog)was such a welcoming ambassador.

GermanyThe owners are really kind and support you to have a great stay. The waffel for breakfast with fruits was tasty as well! If I would come back to Merida I would definetly choose this hostel for a nice and peacefull accommodation again.

Czech RepublicI'm sorry, but my stay didn't start off the best. First of all, I informed the hostel about my night arrival in advance, at 9 o'clock, still an hour before the end of check out, to my surprise it was closed, I would have appreciated the bell, I had to wait about 20 minutes and sit outside the door after a full day of bus travel, even knocking on the glass door didn't help, nor did a message to the hostel, when Coco barking at the door saved me, to my surprise, after opening the door, the lady who didn't speak much English looked quite annoyed and didn't apologize at all when I told her how long I had been waiting. In the end, she didn't even have change to return after paying for the stay, which I haven't seen yet.It doesn't matter anymore, the most unpleasant surprise for me was the door to the room, which was broken and jammed so much that it was impossible to get in or out of the room, you had to use your whole body weight and fight with it. When I got stuck outside, even the receptionist couldn't do it and we had to get help from a guy. That was all night, because my roommates came in at different times and couldn't get in and knocked on doors, and trying to open it was exhausting and many times beyond our efforts - they finally fixed it the next day, but thanks to that I didn't sleep one night because of trying to help others get into our room. The entrance to the hostel in the evening is via a pin code, unfortunately I entered the wrong code once and due to how sensitive the lock was to touch so that the numbers lit up at the same time and you knew what you were entering - when the screen in the middle of the display has to be unlocked before the pin, when as soon as I pressed the lock it wouldn't let me enter the pin and reported the wrong code and after about three attempts it blocked the system so I couldn't get into the hostel and had to knock on the window from other room.
The hostel is a short walk from the bus station, about a 5 minute walk. I heard from another guest that the breakfast was luxurious - a fruit bowl with waffles, unfortunately I was on two full days tours that started before breakfast, so I didn't have the chance to try it, maybe it would be nice to have them a little earlier. You will be greeted at the hostel by a very friendly little dog Coco, she was amazing. For these I would reccomend it still but they should fixed few things.

United KingdomGuaya is a good all-round hostel.
Guaya Hostel has all the amenities necessary for a very pleasant stay. Its location places all the main city features within easy walking distance and the ADO bus station is only 300 metres away. Breakfast is included and provides a good start to the day, except for the Bimbo bread. The staff are very helpful and always around

MexicoCan't think of anything that would have made it better except hot shower the two mornings that we lacked. They were very quick to remedy the situation. What good people, doing their best to make affordable and good accomodations for people who are traveling... They are working to improve the hostal every day and it's working!
We loved the awesome breakfast that was included in our price and the help and care of the staff and owners of the accomodation. We did lack hot water two of the 7 days but they ran out of propane and that happens to us at our own house as well. It was not a problem as the cold water wasn't really "cold".. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the breakfast table, getting ideas of places to visit, had great help finding Uber to the airport at an amazingly low cost which allowed us to make a really strong tip (propina) and in perfect time. All in all, it was a great stay in Merida!

Perfectly acceptable hostel. Well placed for ADO station, good breakfast, clean and comfortable. Quite peaceful too. Not a party hostel. Pool was a bonus. I see no reason not to stay here when I am in Merida again.

CanadaMosquitos.
Staff were exceptionally friendly and kind. A good collection of other travellers were there too. It was near the bus station which is perfect for day trips or for early departures/late arrivals. I chose the location because I was taking Spanish lessons downtown and wanted to start each day with a nice walk.

United StatesFirst of all, there were cockroaches in our room and a bunch of small flies. The white paint of the walls was coming off even such that the bedside tables were filled with pieces of paint every morning. The day we checked-in the room had a weird smell, they hadn’t opened the room for at least a week, and there are absolutely no windows. We were basically the only clients there for our 3 night stay, other than one or two other backpackers. The volunteers from Mexico City and Canada were actually nice to us. The day we checked out and came back to pick up our bags, we sat down for not even 8 minutes to take a breath and one other girl basically kicked us out telling us that we had to pay a “daypass” to stay in the premises… I found that incredibly rude and not welcoming specially from a “Hostel” whose common areas were EMPTY the entire time. I wouldn’t come back here just because of her attitude.
Location was close to the bus station, good price for what it’s worth. We picked the only private room they had.

Czech RepublicIt could be cleaner. There was dirt falling of ‘decorative’ wall into a bed. Weird ‘hole’ in a ceiling - you could hear eveything.
I really like the common area - there are hammocks, pool, sofa - a lot of places where you can chill outside of the bedroom which is great at a hostel. We even had a hammock in our bedroom. They were friendly about using everything in the common area and offered laundry cleaning. You could choose between waffle and eggs for breakfast.

New ZealandIt was a good ten minute walk from the centre of town but this was balanced by it being very close (around the corner) from the ADO bus station
The owners and staff were super friendly, they offered suggestions of local places to eat and interesting trips to make. Coco the dog was also very friendly. The breakfast was great with an option of eggs or waffles made for us, plus juice and fruit salad. The pool was great for cooling off after a busy day sightseeing. I liked my stay here.

Hong KongThe ADO bus station is 17 mins by walk away from centro. So you need to choose whether you want to stay close to centro or the bus station. For me 17 mins walk is okay without my backpack so I love here very much! They have air conditioner at night maybe around 10pm. I would give a 10 if the air conditioner was on a 7pm 😛
It is 3 mins away from ADO bus stop. The waffle breakfast there was great. I love it very much 🥰 Also, the cat was very very very cute. You would love it at the first sight. Everyone here is very friendly. I love here a lot!
