Gandhi (a talented artist) and his mother, Elena, are friendly and generous hosts of this lovely homestay. They welcomed me into their home, helped me find wonderful places to go and made my stay a pleasure. The room was clean, the bed was big and soft, and the shower was strong. It is close to the centre (5 minutes walk) with a handy Mini-market opposite. The courtyard is a beautiful place to relax in the evening and socialise with the family and other guests. Chirrin the cat is a friendly and welcoming part of the household. It was hard to find at first. It is the blue house opposite the Willy's Mini-market. Hostel Chirrin is a lovely place to stay and great value.

Runned by a very loving mother and son. They make you feel like home and you are included in the family. Room was pretty clean. They take care of you nicely. Location was nice.

Shower didn’t have enough pressure and the small fan wasn’t enough to cool the room.

This was the most amazing place. The hosts were just lovely. I fell sick after one day and they were looking after me like I was family. I felt so at home and so comfortable and seen. I have never experienced anything like this. If you’re looking for connection and people that have recommendations for basically every place in Mexico, this is what you’re looking for. The rooms are spacious, as are the beds, with private bathrooms. Everything is simple, but very clean and comfortable. Everything in the city is within walking distance and some great taco places are just around the corner.

The owner was so friendly and offered for me to eat homecooked food with him (I didn't have time to take him up on this but I'm sure it would have been wonderful and it was such a lovely offer to have some real family food!) The owner also provided some excellent restaurant recommendations. The cat - Chirrin- was the cutest.

The room and bathroom felt very run down, to be honest almost squalid. There was no hot water or much water pressure. The room was absolutely overrun with mosquitos and even my anti-mosquito plug in couldn't hold them off (the owner provided those coils to burn for mosquitos but I didn't use one because I had a plug in - doubt it would have helped much). I knew there was no AC when I booked but the fan wasn't enough to sleep comfortably and was covered in dirt which was spread around the room when switched on.

Staying at Hostal Chirrin was one of the highlights of my trip backpacking across Mexico. Ghandi and Elena were incredibly warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived—they made me feel like part of the family. Elena’s home-cooked Mexican meals were an absolute treat and I would highly recommend trying them. Both hosts were also super helpful with tips and advice about the local area and hostel is only a 5-10 minute walk from both the bus station and city centre. The room itself was clean and spacious, and the bed was the biggest Ive stayed in during my travels. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home with hosts who genuinely care, I can’t recommend Hostal Chirrin enough.

    Nothing, everything was great.

    Extremely friendly and informative hosts.

Some noisy neighbours on the night I stayed. Directions to the location, and access, need to be a bit clearer.

The owners are the best people I've met. If you want to feel the love of a family, go there!

Just that I could not find the house easily, and really is not hidden. A few more directions and a big number outside of the house would be enough. Even a graffiti with the name would make it! Lol.

The nicest hosts I’ve ever met! This Hostal is run by a mom and son duo and they made me feel right at home and a part of the family. They offered suggestions for things to do around the city, and provided lots of info about the local culture and history. I would 100% stay here again.

Gandhi and his mum , Elena, are some of the most open, welcoming and attentive hosts I've ever stayed with. So kind and generous in everything they do to make you feel right at home. I felt completely welcomed into the family and learnt a lot about the history of the Mayan and Aztec people along the way. An absolute pleasure from start to finish, thank you so much Gandhi and Elena! :)

That I couldn't have stayed any longer
