I honestly cannot think of one thing.

The guesthouse is absolutely beautiful. Nicely decorated, gorgeous art, beautiful plants, trees, and indeed this guest house is a jewel. Chris and Bruce are kind, friendly, and offered activity options they host onsite such as yoga and watsu in the pool taught by local instructors - and open to the larger community. These events offer the opportunity to meet locals, too. In addition to the wonderful room (they upgraded me) there is a shared kitchen that is fully stocked with all the tools to create a meal along with basics like tea, coffee, granola, yogurt and some condiments to use during one's stay. I took advantage of this - eating breakfast there each morning. The room offered a very comfortable bed and pillows, a reading chair and ample space to store clothing. Overall, I can't say enough good things about my experience here, and when I return to SMA - I will certainly stay here again.

Simply the best! My husband and I visited La Joya Azul for 9 nights to celebrate our honeymoon and 1-year wedding anniversary. And…wow! We deeply enjoyed every single moment of this dreamy experience from arrival to checkout (and were sad to go). Our entire stay was easy breezy & effortlessly satisfying. Do not hesitate to book this wonderful and welcoming boutique hotel - a truly fabulous gem that serves as the ideal home base to take in all that San Miguel has to offer. Chris and Bruce are top notch hosts: kind, friendly (but not intrusive), down-to-earth, communicative, and genuinely happy to help. It was a pleasure chatting with them — our conversations and interactions felt as if new friends were welcoming us into their home. They artfully facilitate a fun, relaxed ambiance that permeates the space. And meeting fellow guests was a major bonus; in fact, we made new friends that we are eager to see again. This was a testament to Chris and Bruce’s thoughtful, intentional creation of a space where queer family feel seen, safe and welcomed as well as open-minded allies from all walks of life. We felt cared for, that all of our needs were met as well as anticipated. Masterful hosts. Bravo! The property is a gorgeous oasis. From enjoying coffee at sunrise and meals at sunset on the stunning rooftop terrace (sweeping views to soak in the heart of San Miguel — the pictures don’t do it justice! — with ample seating options) to afternoons frolicking in the pool and lounging poolside, and from making simple meals in the well-stocked kitchen to admiring the impeccably cared-for garden, the property FAR exceeded expectations — across the board. Our pool-view room (El Diablito) was spacious and the bed was quite comfortable. To top it all off, the decor and landscaping throughout the property offered an inspiring and colorful feast for the eyes at every turn. Playful art? Check. Flowers & plants galore? Double check. Overall: we had zero issues (0!

We liked everything, would highly recommend La Joya Azul, really a jewel in San Miguel.

La Joya Azul exceeded all our expectations, it’s a beautiful, spacious oasis in a quiet residential neighborhood. There are tons of inviting terraces, including a huge rooftop terrace with a great view. The bed is terrific - a king-sized high quality mattress. Actually the whole place is beautifully furnished, with great attention to detail. E.g. each nightstand has a power strip with multiple outlets and USB ports. The pool is nice-sized, heated and a great spot for an afternoon. It’s a 13-minute walk to the Plaza Principal, with a great market nearby. It was nice to have simple breakfast items, and good coffee in the kitchen, which is fully stocked with the basics. The honor bar is always there for an evening cocktail. We just met one host, Chris, and he was amazing, with lots of suggestions. He introduced us to a couple of his favorite local bands and made sure we had everything we needed. Their two dogs Luna and Ozzie are the sweetest, and the kitten is adorable.

The property was well-maintained both inside and outside by the owners. The rooms had comfortable beds and linens. The kitchen was stocked, the pool area and gardens were inviting and lush. The owners were onsite and helpful with suggestions for dining, entertainment, and a car service.
