How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff are lovely and very helpful. There is free tea in the cafe at the back, and you can help yourself to some nuts and dried fruits in the evening. The garden is beautiful. It was quiet, and we had no problems sleeping at night. The location is right next to La Quinta Avenida, which is the main road with lots of shops, restaurants, and entertainment, and the restaurants across from it are good, too. Water in the shower, once adjusted, was hot and lasted for a good shower.
The wifi was very weak, Ants everywhere, no lengthy mirror so you cannot see how you look before going out. The shower is old-fashioned and difficult to adjust the temperature. Only two pillows on the bed; you need at least four for a double, as well as an extra blanket. The AC unit is positioned directly facing the bed, and there is no real wardrobe or place to hang your clothes aside from this random wooden bar hanging from the ceiling and a small cabinet. There isn't much space to put your toiletries in the bathroom, so a cabinet under the sink would go a long way. Breakfast could definitely be better; they provide a free jug of water each day, but it is room temperature, and there is no fridge in the room. They need to provide bug spray in the garden cafe during breakfast or when you sit there, otherwise you will be bitten very quickly. Finally, the floorboards have significant gaps between them, through which you can see the filth and dust within, and you need to be very careful you do not drop anything of value, as it would disappear and not be seen again.

Verified reviewThe staff and the property at Hotel La Semilla was warm, welcoming, and charming! Each person we interacted with was kind, helpful, and always had a smile. The jungle setting and the courtyard where breakfast was served was elegantly decorated with string lights and vintage bistro-style tables and chairs. One of the best parts of this experience was the two-course daily breakfast made by Valeria and served by Claudia! The fruit was so fresh and beautifully arranged on our plates each morning. There was yougurt with a varitey of seeds and granola, along with whole grain bread for toast, and delicious homemade jam. There was a cooked egg dish for our second course, incorporating specialities from the Yacatan and the fresh squeezed juices were amazing! The soft neutral colors of the rooms and wood features made them elegant and invited you to relax and unwind.
Nothing, it was exactly as pictured and described! The gentleman who worked the front desk was kind and helpful working to get our room cleaned for an earlier check-in, as we arrived quite early in the morning.

Verified reviewA great location, conveniently located very very close (20 meters) from La Quinta Avenida (but not in the crowd and busy part) , 300 meters from the Beach. A magical environment, the breakfast is served in a patio in the garden, everything is very “organic”.

Verified reviewLocation was amazing, right in the middle of where you wanted to be, but parking the car was tricky as they only have room for 2 cars then it’s in street parking where you pay by the hour. We got lucky. Staff were great as was breakfast. Slightly strange to have a horse/priarie/french shabby chic vibe to the bedrooms? 😂
The nearest beach was very crowded & touristy, but they didn’t have other recommendations other than to ho on expensive boat trips despite fact we had a car and could go anywhere

Verified reviewThe room was gorgeous and very comfortable, the location was perfect, the shower and the water pressure were excellent, and some of the staff members were lovely.
We were told that if we wanted to have the room cleaned we had to request it explicitly every morning at the reception; however one morning we overheard two of the employees complaining at the fact that one guest had requested his room to be cleaned despite it being relatively clean, which set a poor precedent. We felt almost guilty when we ourselves went to request for our room to be cleaned. They had claimed that this was due to the environment but we honestly do not see the environmental impact of someone making our bed and completing general housekeeping and superficial cleaning, which was essential due to the amount of insects that roam everywhere due to the humidity of Playa del Carmen. One of the most funny experiences was one evening, when we walked in and all of the lights were off in the reception, and given their commitment to energy saving, we frankly thought it was some eco-friendly policy. It was only when we got to our room that we noticed the emergency lights were on and suspected that there was a power outage in the whole building, but we thought it would be odd that the receptionist did not notify us when we greeted her and walked past the lobby. It was only after we came back and enquired that she told us that in fact, the whole street had lost power and that it would be back in half an hour or so. While this is obviously out of their control and we understood their circumstances, it was their lack of communication with the client that shocked us a little bit. However, the chef and the young lady at the restaurant (breakfast) the last day were 100% lovely.

There was not a person always at the door. It might create security issue.

Verified reviewThis is an incredible property. The rooms are nestled in a leash garden setting with beautiful plants everywhere. The grounds are manicured constantly. The owner clearly loves her property. When we arrived, adrian gave us a tour. He spoke fluid English and was as nice and as helpful as anyone could possibly be. The restaurant is fantastic. The employees are super kind. At 5:30 in the morning an array of birds begin to fly from tree to tree. This is the best place to stay if you want to visit Chichen Itza. There are cenote close by. A taxi cost about five dollars. They have an array of spa services. When I return, I will definitely stay there. If you want romance, this is a great place to stay. If you love nature, this is a fantastic place to stay. Obviously, I loved it and my wife did too. Wake up super early and go to the ruins right when they open to beat the crowds and the heat. My wife and I own EatTravelGo.com based in LA Ca USA and we paid full price to stay there. It was a great value.
I cannot think of anything I did not like about the property. We were there in May. While it was very hot. The gardens provided lots of shade which helped. There’s also a refreshing pool to swim in. The air conditioner in the room worked great.

Verified reviewAbsolutely sensational! We honestly were in awe with how amazing this hotel is. It looks even better in person than in pictures and seems to be very freshly built. Everything was clean, you can’t hear anything from the street outside, it’s in prime location. THE STAR THOUGH IS THE BREAKFAST! It’s made to order and is delicious!!! We were very sad to leave and wished we could stay there for another day! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Verified reviewThe breakfast was good, chef was friendly also. The location was central to a lot of touristy things.
We were wrongly charged by the hotel. We booked a king size room as per the descriptor but received a tiny queen size bedroom. They also charged us in person at the hotel and it was about 60 additional US dollars than what was listed on bookings for the king room. The initial front desk lady said she needed a manager to assist with making it right, but we had full day tours for the first two days of our trip. We offered to call them or email them but they insisted on an in person exchange. When we finally caught the manager, he was very rude and said he had been asking around the hotel for us (despite knowing we were out on tours). He started interrogating us about what we had been doing on the tours and why, mocking us when we told him we went to Cozumel for birdwatching. It seemed they were intentionally trying to embarrass us and act as though we were trying to skip out on payment even though they had our credit card info, cell number and full information. The interaction with them to sort out payment was painful and they were belittling us. They claimed there were additional sanitation taxes not accounted for in bookings that we had to pay which seemed pretty scammy to us. We had to discuss with them multiple times to get the rate we paid and it was still not the room we paid for. After this they became rude towards us, and then just ceased to acknowledge our existence. On top of this, the room was small and the bed was stiff and uncomfortable, while the pillows were very thin. The water pressure was not good and the toilet would barely flush, also the toilet seat doesn’t stay up so slams and hits you in the back if you try to use it. Shower drips and couldn’t make that stop either. The room was very noisy, no insulation against street noise and music, luckily we had ear plugs or it would have been impossible to sleep. The room also has no actual area to hang clothing, just a hanging stick from the ceiling which was not adequate for dresses or long items.
