Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Hostel is super walkable for Oaxaca, close to Centre and Marmoris Ink (where I had a tattoo appointment.) Everything was very clean, the bed was soft, and the towels smelled fresh. The people were lovely - it was so easy to make friends to explore the city with.

Personal, 3 pancakes for breakfast would be better than two.
One of the most unique and fun hostel experiences I’ve had anywhere, a family like atmosphere created by the volunteers.

The rooms have no real ventilation, so they get hot and stuffy (there are fans by every bed). The ladders to climb in and out of top bunks are difficult to use.
Great location, friendly staff, good vibes, simple breakfast included, good value tours and activities, good wifi, kitchen facilities, pool and bar. Generally pretty clean and great water pressure in the (hot) showers.

Very friendly helpful staff, breakfast was amazing, lots of activities. Yoga in the morning was very calming. Showers are hot and pressured. Beds are clean and comfy.

You had to chose either fan or charge your phone - each bed only had one outlet

It was pretty hot in the rooms, so the doors of the room had to be open all the time. But so far I see it’s everywhere similar situation. I would say that bedroom photos are far away from reality, but it was ok
Nice staff, good breakfast. Didn’t have a chance to go for any hostel activities but was nice they had things planned for guests

I liked the concept of the dorms with the little cabin including an own light and fan. The roof top is just amazing with the bar. The pancakes for breakfast where also delicious. But the best part where the people. Everybody was just having a good time and that makes it so much more enjoyable.

When it was raining, my upper bed pod got wet during night 🙃 But it was heavy rain that night.
Loved the privacy of the sleeping pods and the functional terrace area. The price-quality ratio is very good, for breakfast 3 options and coffee. Free water. Tours and activities are well informed and an easy way to meet people. Kitchen and barhrooms were always clean. Quiet in the evening.

Fantastic hostel in Oaxaca - excellent value for money, cozy but sociable, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and spacious beds with fans and a curtain for privacy. Great breakfast and very affordable tours on offer.

They only accept cash which would have been nice to have been told this prior to arriving!

I loved how this hostel is like family. Everyone is so nice and caring for each other. It’s close to the centre and the beds are comfortable. The showers were nice and hot and the bathrooms were always kept clean

The bedroom was small and the door did not isolate the sounds coming from the hall. I slept next to the window and woke up couple of times when the cleaner started working at 6 am even if I used earplugs. The curtains of the beds should be longer for giving some privacy.
Maka hostel is mid size and has good social vibe. The rooftop area was really cozy. They have tiny bar and music there but it's still not noisy party hostel. The volunteers were really helpful during my stay.
