How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe female receptionist was very politely.
The pool was dirty, we couldn’t use it. Our appartment was very loud during the night as there is a night club in the backyard (until 2am loud music). The room was not super clean but our appearance was very spontaneous to be fair.

Verified reviewReceptionist was absolutely lovely and very helpful. Room was lovely and enjoyed the pool.
Lot noise at night from neighboring bars but to be expected when staying central.

Verified reviewThe receptionist were amazing. Super helpful and was able to assist me on finding places in the area.
No Hot Water. Shower water pressure was awful. AC wasn’t strong enough in my room and still was hot even at night. Barely had time to spend near the pool because it was constantly hogged by the same people who seemed to be residents on the property.

Verified reviewIt's true to the name 'Boutique' and a 100% like the photographs. I reached here in the midnight & I was greeted by a beautiful old gentleman. I don't remember the name but he was welcoming. The property was safe for a solo traveller especially women. The boutique is overall picturesque - with the central pool & the tree - wish the pool water was warm. The room had earthy tone, which makes one really calm. Comfortable bed. They had a pretty big kitchen and I loved that (I did not use it.) It's in the heart of the city centre - so you can walk around to eat and explore the town.
I couldn't get into the pool because the water was cold but I wish something to warm the water temperature could be done but that wouldn't be a reason for me to not go back.

Verified reviewGreat location in the centre of town. Nice room. Nice pool.
No body wash or shampoo provided in the shower, which is a bit annoying. They should really provide this as standard.

Verified reviewThe hotel is one of the coziest, prettiest I have ever stayed in. It is also clean, and relaxing during the day. Perfect for a one or two night stay to explore Tulum and surroundings.
Location: Whilst centric in the village, the hotel is 20 minutes away from the coast by bike, and It would have been helpful to know previously that Tulum beaches are mostly privatised by hotel resorts. The public beach is not only far away, but full of algae. If you want to go to the coast, you either need to bike or take a taxi, which is inconvenient. Amenities: the hotel has a pool, but it is more for decoration and aesthetic purposes in my opinion. There is also no gym and no restaurant/bar. Noise: since the hotel is close to many village clubs, it gets really noisy until ~3am, especially in the weekend. I'd suggest to bring ear plugs! Other considerations: the hotel does not provide with shower gel or shampoo, only hand soap. You can't throw toilet paper in the toilet, otherwise it will get clogged. The hot water in the shower takes 10 to function. There is a big tree in the centre of the pool which keeps the pool and rooms mostly shady and cool; if your goal is to tan in the pool, this ain't the place.

Verified reviewFantastic location, within walking distance to a lot of cute restaurants and cafes; the property is well maintained, the pool area very aesthetically pleasing; room is spacious and clean with great AC (we were on the ground floor with pool view); staff is extremely friendly and willing to assist with local recommendations and tours; we rented bikes for 2 days directly at the hotel for which we’ve gotten a discount

Verified reviewDO NOT STAY HERE. They will rob you. Someone who works at the hotel opened my lock door at 12 am while I was in the hotel room. The showers also have no hot water. YOU ARE NOT SAFE HERE and I cut my trip short after an attempted robbery. The front desk staff watches when you enter and leave, and while they seem nice, they are definitely part of the robbery system there.
Gabrielle we are sorry but we doubled checked security cameras and no one tried to open your door nor walked by it. We have recepcionist who can help with any problem you might have, and a security guard who overviews the secutiry of guests during their stay. We've never had any robbery situaition from our staff.

Verified reviewNice room, central location.
We booked the place to have a nice hotel where we could swim with our toddler, however the pool was super murky (could not see the floor), which means unusable as it could mean dangerous bacteria, kind of ruining the whole stay. There are 1000 alternatives in Tulum with pools, don't choose this one.
We are sorry for your bad experiences with our pool. As it was explained by our staff, one of our guests dove in with sunscreen and other oils, which created blurred and durty water. This was treater right away with chemicals.

Verified reviewIt seemed very nice and romantic
It was promised that they had toiletries, but when I questioned, they responded that yeah, we mentioned it in the booking, but we didn't have any, including soap to wash our hands. There was a TV malfunction, and they even repaired it at 10 p.m. in our room, so we had to ask them to leave. Because there was a nightclub or something adjacent to the hotel with really loud music, it was impossible to sleep till 2:00 AM. The most terrible stay. The hotel had potential, but the previously mentioned faults destroyed our visit.

Verified reviewI liked the look of the facade, the central location and the cleanliness. The wifi was quite stable as well.
I was really disappointed and surprised to find out that basic amenities were missing, even though the economy double room that I booked was advertised to include them (free toiletries, TV, mini fridge). Furthermore, the beds and pillows were really uncomfortable and there was a lot of noise at night from the nearby rooftop club. The fan with the lamp stopped working, and the A/C didn’t respond most of the time (we used 3 different remotes and the problem persisted throughout our stay, it seems like the A/C was the problem). When I voiced my concerns, the male staff member was not helpful at all and didn’t even apologize. The ladies were much nicer, and allowed me to use the fridge of the staff. I had to go and buy my own toiletries though (soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, toothpaste etc.). After reading many positive reviews, I expected more.

Verified reviewThe location is so good, the hotel is clean generally
The bad is so uncomfortable:( there is a filter coffe machine in the room but there is no coffee for it! There is no soap in the bathrooms even for washing hands!
Hi, we are sorry to here this! Coffee can be bought at front desk!
