Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The facilities, the staff and the food were all exceptional. They could not have been more attentive. We were particularly impressed with the food (the japanese restaurant was fantastic). The steak and fish at seaside were delicious. Also a great breakfast and lunch menu. The evening entertainment was fab and all the facilities were amazing.

United KingdomA small thing, but for a resort that caters for couples and honeymoon’s we expected a little extra effort or acknowledgement of our honeymoon to mark the special occasion. There was a big corporate event and we noticed even for them they made a little welcome banner for each room.
It is a beautiful property, with amazing staff. Perfect for couples! We loved the food and the variety of restaurants. Rooms are beautiful.

United StatesOur only complaint was the exorbitant prices for items such as sunscreen in the on-site stores. We don't mind paying more for sundries that we forgot to bring, but $35 dollars for a spray can of sunscreen could be considered price gouging.
The grounds, the beach, the staff, the food---all were exceptional. We even enjoyed seeing all the wildlife around the property, including the iguanas and birds. We would definitely recommend Secrets to anyone looking for a fun, relaxing and high-quality resort by a beautiful beach.

United StatesWe were so confused!! We got lost a LOT…. We were there for 3 nights it was impossible to get the layout… we did have the map! Not helpful !! Plz put more signs.. i swear one of them pointed in the wrong direction. At night, we wanted to go to the theater on the last night. We never knew where it was. One of your employees was so kind. She walked us to the theater, but there was no signs leading up to the theater. It was so confusing!!!!
I thought it was very pretty the restaurants were done beautifully.

United KingdomFood was average and decidely bland. We were expecting a thrill of mexican spice which was sadly lacking. Lots of focus on regional cuisine (Italian, French, Greek, etc) which many guests liked, but we found them to be shadows of what they should have been; beautifully presented but lacking the taste intensity we expected. Given the average age of guests was probably pushing 50, there was two much duff duff duff music played at the pools which seemed to be more catering for the staff's tastes than the guests.
In general the staff were excellent, going above and beyond with a few exceptions. Three pools to choose from, our the gorgeous sea. Room was large and well appointed and despite being sold as a Garden View, we had clear sight of the sea even if halfway back in the resort.

United StatesSome of the other buffet good aside from the Mexican food wasn't all that great, but if you wanted to see the show that's what you had to eat. Maybe staying for 2 weeks, one to see the shows, and then one to eat at all the restaurants is a good idea.
Breakfast was great, everything was perfect. The shows, the Mexican food

United KingdomThe sales pitch and insisting on participating in the breakfast for sale pitch to become members of the Unlimited club. Despite having many restaurants, the quality is average, not great, considering the expensive cost of this hotel. Moreover, they have very few lactose free or vegan options. It should have high level cuisine, better quality meat and much higher quality dishes. Also, we had to wait a lot for the food. For the type of food, they take a lot to prepare. The house wine quality is very low. And you have to pay a lot if you would like other wines (we are talking from 60 usd - 90 usd - for average wines found in the supermarket) -which we never did. The quality of the cocktails is also very poor (not much alcohol really). We expected better quality and better preparation, especially considering the price of the hotel. The best restaurant was the Asian HImitsu. It is good to have animation staff, who are super friendly and energetic, however, for paid activities such as tours with turtles and others similar, given the expensive cost I was expecting a professional tour or guidance. They should hire professionals for this type of activities. In general, events such as Asado and buffet food options, were not always good quality. Again, lack of lactose free and vegan options. In general, the fact that most of the activities ended quite early (max 5 or 6 pm) when you still have plenty of sun and an amazing beach to enjoy. I come to enjoy the sun and the beach. Dinners tend to start too early and also finish quite early.
This is the second time we stayed here. We like it because it is a quiet and special place for couples, especially if you love the sea and aquatic activities. The place has access to Akumal beach, a great, large and clean beach where you can swim, do snorkeling and see turtles. The hotel has excellent facilities and friendly staff, amazing rooms and privacy, and several food options. I love the cleanliness, facilities and staff. They really worry about the guests, always providing some special details for special occasions. Rooms are private, not noisy, perfect for an escape as a couple. It is adults only and mainly for couples. You could stay all your stay here, without need to go outside the hotel, because there sre plenty of things to do. We enjoy aquatic activities and outdoor activities, so we also wanted to go to the Cenotes and other amazing places around this area. The hotel is quite close to several cenotes. We had rented a car and we drove to great places (Dos Ojos Is just 15 min away and Yal ku is less than 10 min). Super convenient location. There are options for taking other tours to Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, etc. The breakfast is amazing. The best by far, and they had many options. Maybe missing lactose free yogurt and more lactose free and vegan food. The entertainment activities are very good., especially the Rock show, which was super fun, with good quality show and music. Very nice and friendly animation team. Especial kudos to Max. Thanks for your energy and attention! Our concierges were amazing, especially Sergio. He took care of us, especially when we needed medical attention. Thanks so much to the staff of the breakfast team of the Market Cafe. They were amazing and attentive. Coco cafe is a great place, however they could increase the options of lactose free and vegan foods. Himitsu is the best restaurant. This should be the standard of all the restaurants, which are many.

Max, jonas, Abraham and Gina were amazing ❤️ The food and drinks in the resort were such high quality. We loved the pizza by the pool and also loved the grill for dinner! We snorkelled with the turtles which I’d highly recommend! Amazing experience! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so incredibly enjoyable. ChileCompared to our previous two stays at Secrets Akumal, this is the first time it is operated by Hyatt, and we feel the Secrets brand has lost a bit its attention to details. It's small things but they add up. From the toiletries (we really loved the soap and shampoo of Secrets from before) to the snacks in the room (very random and only chickpea based, while in other rooms we saw nuts and chips), to some signs of aging in the rooms that should be taken care off for such a resort. We also used to get mosquito killer spray in the room, now they did not have, and also when asked for plug adaptor from European to American there was no available (had to buy one of horrible quality for 25 dollars in the shop) when in most hotels you have universal plugs these days. The rooms smell a bit to humidity (which is normal everywhere in this region), but they used to have some kind of scented candle or perfume sticks. So yes, small things, but if you have been here before you feel it has lost some details. Also this time around it was full of big groups celebrating birthdays, weddings, bachelor parties, etc. Therefore many places were louder and more crowded than usual making it less romantic, which is what Secrets brand stood for. We encountered at least 10 to 15 of such groups with 8 or more people per group. I wish the hotel would limit this or rebrand Secrets to an adults only party hotel rather than couples oriented hotel.
I will start by saying this is a great adults only resort. This was our third time here. The best part of the Hotel are the swimming pools, these are among the best swimming pools in the area (and we have been around), because you have so many options (the lazy pool is our favorite, although the main activity pool has the best views). The swimout room we selected gives you an additional kind of more private option for when the pools become too crowded. Another strong point is the food, although it remain an all-inclusive kind of food, the quality is above average, particularly all Mexican related food. The same with drinks. The third great thing is the staff, all of them are kind, ready to help and go the extra mile. We would like particularly thank our Concierge Alondra (kind and helpful), the pool concierge Antonio (cool and friendly), William (from seaside restaurant), and Ivonne and Felipe both pool waiters for being the best. Particularly Ivonne was so hard working and fast! One of our favorite parts of this hotel is it is really immersed in nature, the trees and plants are even more lush than previous times here. Also the beach Akumal well known for its turtles was without sargazo and looked very clean.

Everything was fabulous from the time we arrived. The staff couldn’t do more for us. We saw plenty of turtles, which was our main reason for the Visit to Akumal. Generally food and drink was all excellent, only slight negative were the margaritas in a couple of the bars, but that’s just a minor thing. We loved every minute.

CanadaThe sushi and sashimi at the japanese restaurant is not very good. At the checkin, there were sales people try to sale us the club membership and try to convince us to go to a sale pitch at the next day. We were tired and would like to go to our room first, maybe they could do this talk after we settle down at the hotel.
The room is great. The resort is beautiful. The beach is great and we enjoy the ocean. All the stuffs are nice and we felt very welcomed. The food at the resort is great, there are lots of sea food options. We went snorkeling and saws lots of sea turtles with a great instructor Gaberial.

United StatesNot much. The quality of the specialty restaurants.
Service was amazing, location by a seaweed free beach very good, breakfast and lunch buffet excellent (specific restaurants less so, except for Portofino, the Italian one.) We are an older couple who walk with canes, and they were very accommodating and thoughtful on all issues, including closeness to the beach. The activities at the most active pool were skillfully run, and the live entertainment mostly very good, some terrific.
