This place was amazing. The owner reached out days before we arrived and not only provided information and recommendations in Merida, but also in the town we were visiting just before traveling to Merida. From the moment we stepped out of our car, we were welcomed by staff and given a tour of the property and information about The Diplomat Hotel and the town of Merida. The food and drinks were fantastic and the poolside ambiance was so relaxing. I would go to Merida again just to stay at this hotel and eat the delicious breakfast. And to top it all off, I forgot something in the hotel and the owner went above and beyond to ensure its return to me. My husband and I have traveled a lot and we cannot stop talking about this hotel. Stay here. Trust me.

It is a bit removed from restaurants which makes it challenging to get food at night if you choose to stay in as the hotel does not offer dinner options. We had massages one night and didn't want to go out after, Uber eats would have taken over an hour to arrive, pushing dinner back to almost 10pm. I should have kept this in mind, and planned our evening better.

Loved the friendliness of the staff and their attention to detail, it really stood out. Everyone was so warm and helpful, which made us feel right at home from the start. The hotel itself is beautiful. It is quiet, charming, and full of character. Every corner feels thoughtfully cared for, and it’s the perfect place to unwind. A lovely bonus: they offer wonderful shampoo and conditioner made from local honey, which was such a nice touch and left my hair feeling amazing.

My stay at this hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, every detail exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was a real highlight—delicious, varied, and beautifully presented each morning. The rooms were incredibly stylish, spotless, and offered a peaceful retreat after a busy day. I was especially impressed by the quiet atmosphere and the thoughtful design touches throughout. The staff truly made my stay unforgettable. They were unfailingly friendly and genuinely attentive, always ready with a great recommendation yet never intrusive. Upon my arrival, they had already made a dinner reservation for me at a wonderful local restaurant (with no obligation, of course), which was a delightful surprise and made me feel truly welcome. All in all, I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Every aspect was simply outstanding!

    Nothing not to like

Oh you will love this hotel!! I stayed in the room by the pool and what a great pool it is !!! Every morning I opened my bedroom door to enjoy the view. The owners put screen doors on the room so no bugs come inside and you can listen to the birds and water fountain. I have never experienced such beautifully crafted breakfasts in my life. The chef is outstanding and brings something delicious and gorgeously displayed each morning. The owners have consciously thought of all the right details to make your stay so enjoyable: soft bathrobes, bathroom amenities, large bottles of purified water replenished daily, fresh cookies and thoughtful notes each day. I could go on and on. The staff is exceptional. So good at their jobs, always helpful and thoughtful. They gave me the best recs for restaurants nearby. The decor of the property is so tasteful and comfortable. Five stars all the way around!!

If you're looking for a large hotel complex with a full spa area, this might not be the right place for you. Although the pool is small, we really enjoyed cooling off there in the afternoons after our sightseeing adventures. The atmosphere feels like a mix between a boutique hotel and a charming B&B.

The breakfast was one of the best we had in Mexico – fresh, varied, and prepared with great care. Although the hotel is small, it offers all the amenities you'd expect from a 5-star property. The location is quiet and slightly outside the city center, but you can reach downtown in just five minutes by car or Uber. The service was outstanding: they arranged restaurant reservations, private tours to local sights, and even provided us with tips and contacts for the rest of our trip across the Yucatán region.

Everything was perfect. From the start to the end of our stay. The place was beautiful and the room even better. Simple but decorated with finesse. But the most amazing was the Team. Those Ladies are the heart of the place. So beautiful and genuine. Their smile and spirit are worth the stay. And of course the amazing food, prepared with Love by The Chef! We would recommend The Diplomat to anyone that wants a little piece of Paradise! Thank you Ladies for the memories! Chicas se os va a extrañar !🥰

To be honest there wasn’t really anything we didn’t like. We did wonder if it would be a good idea to arrange a quick fumigation around the pool area as there were quite a few ants. But it’s a tropical country and as we live in the area too we understand that this is a constant battle. Nothing that made any difference to what turned out to be one of the very best places we’ve stayed in.

I think that the shear attention to every little details was what made this place very special. I think it’s important that it didn’t feel like they were trying to save money or cut in costs. Little details like the selection of daily free mescal shots that guests could help themselves to. There beautiful little shop area with a lovely selection of quality authentic artifacts from Mexico. The fact that there was always a member of staff available for anything you needed. And the list goes on. The rooms were stunningly finished and the outdoor spaces were carefully thought out. But the real highlight of our stay was the breakfasts. The in-house chef brought out and explained in detail the generous selection of home made breads, salsas, beans, eggs, sides, juices and local fruit. You were made to feel at home and cared for with love. Well done The Diplomat Team! When we’re back in Merida there will be no question about where we stay. See you soon!

This is a little more outside the central area of the city and is a bit quiet, but we loved the invitation it gave us to take longer walks and always felt very safe.

The building is gorgeous and the rooms are spacious and very well appointed. The amenities, facilities and breakfast all make this hotel stand out, as well as the very sweet and helpful staff.

My only minor negative is that the walk from the Diplomat into the centre of Merida isn’t particularly pleasant - narrow pavements and not terribly picturesque. That said, it was very easy to get Ubers.

The Diplomat is a beautifully designed boutique hotel in a wonderfully relaxed setting. From the moment we stepped through the door we were so warmly welcomed by Sara, Eric and their team and loved every minute of our stay. The welcome margarita was the best of our 3 week stay in Mexico (we tried many!) and our enormous room, which opened onto the pool terrace was simply perfect. Sara organised massages in our room on our first evening and her restaurant suggestions were perfect. We had already booked a guide (Raul Gil +52 999 157 9312) who, by coincidence, turned out to be the guide that The Diplomat used. He was fantastic and took us for a great day out to the Celustan, followed by visits to an old Hacienda and Uxmal (in our opinion a way better experience than Chichen Itza). The delicious breakfasts at the hotel were different each day and it was a treat to have afternoon tea!

Breakfast was a little late for us as we like to get out and about early.

Exceptional service both before we arrived and during our stay with great recommendations for restaurants and trips out both in and and around the city. Excellent breakfast, the best margaritas of our two week trip, very friendly and welcoming staff, great laundry service. Nothing was too much trouble with little touches like a beach bag and towels for our trip to Celestun.
