The long dirt road that leads to the property was about a 3 minute drive from the main road, takes a while getting in and out of there. If you plan on staying there, definitely rent a car or you’ll spend a lot on taxis

The property had plenty of space to make you feel like you’re in nature away from everyone.

Beautiful hotel and very nice personnel. We do not understand the 3*** as it is so much better than some 4*.

Breakfast could be more diverse and with more healthy options specially for kids (eg no sugar yogurt).

Super nice host, comfortable bedrooms, nicer than in the pictures. Really nice to stay in the middle of the jungle and very easy access to the lagoon. 10 min way from central bacalar (need to go by car).

Reception staff could have been more helpful with bags and getting a replacement fan. The fans in the room are not great so can get hot. Okay on April but I imagine very hot in the summer.

Beautiful location in the forest with great gardens you can do a walking tour in. Very nice buildings and access to the lagoon. Good food in restaurant fairly priced.

We liked everything about this stay! I wish we had more than 1 night there. The villa is located in pictures place between green rainforest trees and it has all the amenities we needed. The bathroom was inside our villa and there were mosquito net on the bed, that we rally appreciated. We did not know that it did not have conditioning and glass windows (it has the mosquito net and wooden windows instead) but it was okay for our family and our little one (15 month old) in the bedroom we had big fan that was good for keeping comfortable temp. The only thing I would recommend for host is to get some glass jars for guests in the room, for visitors definitely have a big water bottle, you would need it for this trip anyway to stay hydrated.

I didn't like that the water that comes out of the shower and the taps was salty. My hair was very very dry after my stay and my skin was breaking out. Also, there was no WiFi in our room. In the room was no fridge, which I think is necessary with those hot temperatures. Limited breakfast options, especially for vegetarians. We ordered the omelette and on the menu it said that it comes with a variety of vegetables and cheese and ham inside. We told them that we don't want ham inside and as a result we didn't have anything inside of the omelette.

The location was nice and sunrise we saw at the lagoon was amazing. The concept of the hotel was quite cool and we didn't have any windows so we constantly heard the sounds of nature (which was very very nice). The rooms were quite big.

We wish we had stayed longer!

We loved our stay at Villas Ecotucan! The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable and the natural surroundings were beautiful. Perfect place to relax and disconnect (even on a very rainy day like the one of our stay). Dinner at the restaurant was a pleasant surprise, it was delish! Canoeing around the Bacalar lagoon was also a top experience; overall highly recommended!

Minor point: if you don't have a car you'll need to take a taxi to town (200 pesos each way). But everything you need is close by - there are various hotels nearby with restaurants (when you're looking for lunch or for something else not served at the property).

If you're looking to relax and enjoy nature and the lagoon than this is perfect for you. The property is nestled in the jungle, set close to the Lagoon with easy access to it. The rooms are extremely spacious and thoughtfully designed. The breakfasts are delicious. And the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, running various activities - e.g. jungle and lake tour. The setup next to the lagoon is perfect - plenty of chairs, hammocks, and kayaks.

Location is off town which make it harder to access restaurants and stores. It is a good walk to go to the Lagoon from the cabins.

The options for dinner are limited and expensive. The water in the lavatory and shower tastes bad. The workers that fix the construction next to the lagoon are noisy.

Private access to the lagoon, free use of kayak equipment, the breakfast is good.

At the time of booking, we were not informed of the sunrise/sunset kayak. It was sent to us a few days prior to arrival. Upon replying with interest, they let us know it was fully booked for our entire stay which was disappointing. We ended booking the sunrise kayak via another vendor which involved a 20 min car ride into town which was less convenient. We were slightly unlucky with a family below us in the bungalow which meant we were unable to relax during the early evening as the kids were quite loud. Lastly, appreciate the hotel is eco friendly but the shower products could be improved to include separate shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Rather than all 3 in 1.

Super relaxing. Very friendly staff. Bungalows were cosy and perfect to unwind. We took the kayaks out on our own and had a great time. Breakfast was great, and beds very comfortable.

The first night we arrived the receptionists were two girls who appeared to be volunteering at the place and didn't have accurate knowledge on almost anything we asked. We were a family of five and wanted to do a kayak tour. We asked how many free kayaks there are at the hotel and if we need to book them in advance. The ladies said that there is enough for everyone and no worries. To our biggest surprise where the next morning we wanted to go kayaking, there were only 3 kayaks all in all available for guests, and it was too late to book a private kayak tour for that day... Luckily, the lady who was covering the reception that day was very nice and understanding and managed to find two more kayak for us. The room was slightly dirty, felt like no one has used it for weeks before we arrived and there were animal poop here and there left from insects.

Good place to experience the jungle.

    Nothing! It's perfect!!

This was my 3rd visit here - this shows how lovely the place is. Unspoilt natural beauty, both in the jungle and right on the lake. They have their own little deck right on the lagoon. Free kayaks to borrow or you can go on a guided tour. I recommend the jungle walk with Jacqueline - a tranquil way to start the day. The food from the restaurant was exceptional - not a huge menu which is great as everything is freshly prepared. The rooms / cabins are tastefully simple. This is my favourite place to stay in Mexico - in fact probably the whole world!!
