Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkIt was tricky to find our way around the hotel's many buildings and levels. We were approached a few times to be part of a session to show us their new hotel and subscribe to a club, we were also asked by at least three staff members upon checkout, if we would like to buy an extra stay at a discount. Not a bad thing, but just a little annoying to say no to the same thing many times when you just want to relax and use your time differently (and you've already paid a lot to be there).
Beautiful hotel, comfiest bed ever and really spacious and great room! The food and drinks were great and service was also very good! Would definitely go back. Do explore the hotel, there are many wonderful spots and activities to be enjoyed.

GermanyIt all comes at a hefty price. I wish I had known that some of the better restaurants on-site need reservations way ahead of time. This was not properly communicated. On arrival, I called the concierge trying to book tables, and was told they would get back to me, but this never happened. I was happy with dining at the „Arenal“ though, great food and no reservation needed, albeit they might make you wait for a table. I suggest spending the 175 extra Dollars for a night at the Xaak, I loved it and considering the amount I spent for my stay the extra cost did not really matter anymore. What really got me annoyed was that the check out took all in all almost 2 hours. First, I had to stand in line, then I waited for my luggage to be sent down, only to discover it was already there, out in the open with several hundreds of other suitcases. Finding someone who would get me my rental car from valet parking tested my patience, too. This is unacceptable considering how much you have to pay for staying there. Still, these are minor complaints considering the sheer luxury during my stay altogether.
It’s breathtakingly beautiful. The suites are stunning, the bed had the most comfortable mattress I ever had the pleasure to sleep on. The restaurants on site are all exceptional. There’s a feeling of pure luxury at every corner. From the moment you arrive you feel pampered. Sometimes it even feels bizarre, like a guy sitting in a lonely cove and playing the saxophone for an audience not even visible to him. Art is really not only a selling point there, it does seem genuine.

CanadaStill feel like it's a lot of money for a week. Even though we don't need reservations for supper at some spots, they aren't very organized with the seating schedules. We went to Arenal and was told we would have to wait 30 mins for the next seating. We agreed it was worth the wait. It was over an hour and people after us were seated before us even after bringing it up to their attention that we were still waiting, so we left.
Lots to see. Property is beautiful. Access to the parks are great. Beds were comfortable!

SwitzerlandI wish there had been more nightlife outside the parks. There was nowhere to get a cocktail before dinner besides the restaurants. Having a traditional cocktail bar with live music before dinner would have been nice.
This is one of the most beautiful properties I have ever seen. The design was breathtaking and elegant. It lives up to is name, loaded with local art and arts and crafts.

United StatesThe resort has some weird policies that don’t make sense. I was wearing a nice long dress to dinner with white flip flops and was sent back to change my shoes. People that wore gym shorts and old tennis shoes were allowed in. Very strange! Also, the room will get cleaned anytime between 9am and 5pm and then the turn down service comes shortly after. It’s very inconsistent. I don’t know why the room doesn’t get cleaned in the morning?
We had an amazing time. The location, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff is what sets this resort apart from anywhere else we stayed. It’s just beautiful!

United KingdomOnly negatives to share are 1. Due to the long lines at Xplor fuego, we were only able to complete 3 activities and 2. We decided to get room service after our return from Xplor fuego (11:30pm). We couldn’t find a menu in the hotel room for room service. We called reception asking for a menu at 11:45pm, 45 mins passed and no menu was brought to us as promised. (12:30pm) We then ordered over the phone without a menu (said it would take 45 mins). At 1:40am we still had no food at which point we called to cancel as we needed to wake up early for Xavage. At 2:10am someone wok us up to deliver the food.
This is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in, the food is delicious at all restaurants and a highlight for us was dinner at Tah-Xido - the food here is exceptional. The staff were incredible. From the checkin process all the way through to checkout and airport transfer, we received amazing service. We were waited on every second of the day, your cup will never be empty. We especially want to thank Carlos of Cuyoco, Jorge from guest services, the housekeeping staff who made sure our room was perfect every moment we returned from our day and the staff handling the luggage who made our experience seamless. The hotel is beautiful, with something happening around every corner. From ice cream stands and taco stands, to musicians and the secret speakeasy. Even pottery making! Everything has been thoughtfully put together and presented. We treated ourselves to hydrotherapy at Muluk spa - a dream! Now for the parks…. Xcaret, Xplor Fuego and Xavage were awesome! Whilst the food at the parks is good, the food at the hotel is top quality, so recommend planning your day to have food at the hotel where possible. What an awesome experience!!!
