Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaRefer above.
These I did not like. The corner suite was great but it needs proper maintenance. Safety issue in bathroom with full height glass not having a distinguishable band to stop people walking into it. Cupboard doors and other closures need maintenance to make it easier to open/shut these doors/partitions.

ItalyThe aircon was working a little too strong in the restaurant on the 6th floor, so a sweater is always required to carry along.
The hotel is a beauty on the island of Penang. The location is perfect, a few steps away from the cozy city center of George Town. The restaurant offered amazing breakfast and also dinner options. The room received faced beach view, how amazing that was. The pool on the 6th floor is very beautiful and peacefull !

AustraliaOnly one sitting chair in the room We booked well in advance for a twin room (2 beds). On check in we were informed that there were no twin rooms available and they had put another bed in a king room. This other bed was a rollaway that was not an appropriate substitute for a full bed. Entrance to Victory building is not very accessible, and we used the delivery driveway because it was more convenient. Not a lot of casual seating around the hotel

United KingdomNot much, but one frustration was that the pool and sun lounger area was entirely in the shade from early afternoon onwards. There is another pool with better exposure at the heritage part of the hotel but guests in the victory annex cannot use this - so there was a slight air of being a second class citizen (albeit still very luxurious!)
The breakfast was amazing - so much choice across all possible cuisines. Truly never seen anything like it Studio in Victory Annex was very large - great as three of us sharing Fitness suite good standard with sea views Great seafront location and easy 10-15 min walk to heart of Georgetown, food scene and sites. More touristy restaurants within 2-3 mins too

One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. Great location for exploring Georgetown: in easy walking distance to many sights and restaurants in Georgetown. We did everything by foot. The view to the water was amazing and the promenade in front of the hotel was very well taken care of and welcoming. Possibly the best hotel breakfast I've ever tried (and there have been many good ones). We only tried the buffet. It was amazing! We stayed in the new part of the hotel and everything was modern, clean and luxurious. There was a daily turn down service, including the staff restocking the drinking water. Photogenic pool with a fantastic view. We ordered some cocktails while the kids were swimming. :) The spa looked great too, although we ran out of time. I would highly recommend staying here, as a base for exploring Georgetown!

TaiwanWe had a truly wonderful stay at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel. The room was very comfortable, the service was excellent, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was especially enjoyable – there were different delicious options to choose from, and everything was well prepared. We felt very relaxed and well taken care of throughout our stay. I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family, and will always remember the beautiful experience we had here.

AustraliaNot much really! Air con didn't seem as effective on the last night of our 5 night stay but otherwise stay went without a hitch!
Booked in a suite in the heritage wing and absolutely loved our stay. Generous and spacious room, mini bar topped up daily, excellent breakfast buffet, good gym, pool and canapes happy hour before dinner was great. Walking distance to a lot of great food, otherwise a very short grab ride. Would absolutely stay again.

United KingdomIt would have been good to have some kind of entertainment in the evenings as that would have been the icing on the cake. Also, the six o'clock drinks and snacks session, not widely known to all guests, could become a more sociable event for guests to mix and mingle and get to know each other. Instead, each group seem to huddle in their individual corner, showing little attempt to get to know other guests. I also had only one evening meal, and it wasn't great in that the menu was rather limited and my main course came partially microwave-hot. To me, that experience did not match the excellence of the rest of the hotel. That said, breakfast was good, and the service was excellent.
The hotel provided the ultimate in luxury as far as I'm concerned. My room was huge like an apartment. It was tastefully decorated, clean, and with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The hotel is located on the edge and within walking distance to explore Penang Old Town, part of the UNESCO World Heritage centre. I loved that I stayed in the older Heritage Wing, smothered in history. I could go on, but it's sufficient to say that the Eastern and Oriental Hotel Penang is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. With friendly and helpful staff, its warm welcome, and hospitality in providing a welcome bottle of wine on arrival, daily bottles of water, free daily self-replenishing mini bar and daily newspaper in English, who could ask for anything more!

MalaysiaI usually choose this hotel whenever I visit Penang, but this time I was disappointed. The bedsheets and quilt had an unpleasant odor, as if they had not been changed. As it was already late at night, I informed the staff the next morning, but they did not seem concerned. I hope the hotel can pay closer attention to cleanliness and guest comfort.
