Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

RussiaLocation is quite far, but if you have a company, it may be ok to have a 30 min. walk to the park. What about facilities - you receive what you pay, that's fair.
The owners were very cool, and interesting people. Brenda is also a guide, so she can organize guided tours for you right from your stay.

Czech RepublicSee above, that is not really like or unlike, just the way it is. The rooms are missing some hangers or hooks because then you have no room to unpack.
Quite basic accommodation close to Marriott hotel. Room was large (4 beds, we were only 2) and clean a well as the bathroom. There is no AC but a fan on the wall and it can get very hot during the day. The host was helpful and explained us everything. The accommodation is NOT within a walking distance to the park - unless you like to walk a lot. There is an option to get dropped whenever you need for 5 MYR per person per way, so it can make the stay more expensive. Overall we enjoyed our time.

United KingdomThere is nothing unlikeable about the property, you feel safe, comfortable and at home. Like everywhere, facilities could always be upgraded but everything worked absolutely fine and we had no problems.
James and Brenda’s place is probably the most authentic homestay in Mulu. They are so friendly and welcoming and truly make everyone feel like part of the family. Both of their advice and knowledge is fantastic. The accommodation is a great base to rest up and get clean for your next adventure in the surrounding jungle.

United KingdomThe place is unpretentious and simple but the host's Brenda and James go to great lengths to help you plan your stay in Mulu and are full of interesting information. Brenda is a guide and trips can be organised with her. There is a self catering kitchen but nearby are a cafe and the Marriot Hotel where you can choose to eat. I did!

MalaysiaWhat do expect. You're in the Jungle. It's humid. Cold showers. There are power limits. No worries.
Hosts were fantastic. When your friendly host is also the best trained guide in the region and can organise everything, you're in good hands.

United KingdomA slight problem is the lack of wifi, but you can sneak into the nearby Marriott and use theirs !
James and Brenda are two of the nicest people you could ever meet and couldn't do enough to help. One evening when I was there on my own they invited me back to their own home and provided me with a wonderful meal. The property itself is fascinating, being the original building, erected for the British Geographical Society expedition in the 70's that opened up and described the local forest ecosystem and latterly the caves.

RussiaAll good!
- Brenda and James are amazing hosts, super knowledgeable, helpful and always ready to give a lift to the national park or the airport - Price is very good! I also was off-season and had the whole room and bathroom only for myself - There is an opportunity to order a small breakfast - There is WiFi in Marriott across the bridge but I never tried it

United KingdomNothing!
The hosts, location, ambience and scenery. Basic facilities (as expected) but I wanted for nothing, Brenda and James were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Felt like I was part of their family. The location is not as close to the national park as other Homestays but I actually liked this as it was for me a more authentic experience to stay out of the park and see more of Mulu itself. James will drop you to/from the park for only 5RM as and when you like or it’s only a 20-30 minute walk with nice scenery to look at. Admittedly they do not live on the property itself anymore due to bad flooding of their own home so have had to move just up the road but they were at the Homestay a lot and made sure to check in regularly so this was not an issue. They explained a lot about the history of their land/property/homestay which was so interesting and special. It was so nice to meet them and we will definitely stay in touch! I 100% recommend staying here for the best Mulu experience.

United States of AmericaIt's a rustic stay, so don't expect luxury. You get authenticity here. :)
Wonderful history and beautiful nature. The staff are also really friendly so we learned a lot about the area. They offer a shuttle service back and forth from the park (for a small fee), which is much needed. There is so much culture and history here, and lots to be learned from the hosts. Also, good restaurant across the street. You can book any tours directly with them. Wonderful experience.

HungaryFar from the park. Half hour by walking, which wouldn't be a problem, but there is only a pavement road which gets really hot, with no shade, and stray dogs (they barked at us and followed us).
James and Brenda are really nice people, they helped us so much. There were some basic food and drink options for a reasonable price.

United States of AmericaIt's very basic accommodation, don't expect the Marriott :) we were fine though in our rooms, but expect to be sweaty... the rainforest is very humid and hot.
James and Brenda are exceptional hosts and go out of their way to make sure your stay is amazing. We really enjoyed getting to know more about the people of Mulu. Brenda is also an excellent guide and very patient. She taught us so much about all of Mulu, from the people, to the nature, to the wildlife. You can tell they really care about Mulu. If you are looking for a unique experience in Mulu, this is the place.

AustraliaNothing. It was excellent.
Mulu Village is a great homestay option. Brenda and James took amazing care of us ensuring our stay was brilliant. James was our wheels, getting us where we needed to be and Brenda was our guide, offering wonderful small group experiences of the park. The accommodation is rustic but as somewhere to come home to it was fine. There is a kitchen which we didn't use, the beds were comfortable and the fan kept us cool. This is not the Marriott and outs not trying to be, but it is a great place to stay to visit the park and learn from locals about the reality of Mulu. Note: not only do they run tours, you can hire things like torches, shoes, raincoats etc.

ItalyMaybe a small table in addition to the shelf would be useful. But nothing very necessary it's just to give a suggestion.
We were three people in a room with a private bathroom and considering the expectations and the position we had nothing to complain about. James and Brenda were great, always ready to listen to you and help. Also, the service of transport to and from the park is very useful. Furthermore, next to the accommodation there is a very nice cafe with very good breakfasts and good for having dinner, we were just unlucky because we found it closed for many days due to personal issues of the owner. Also, the Mulu Village has a kitchen, water bottles and some snacks that are possible to buy. When I hear someone complaining about the presence of insects or the sound of the frogs I really don't understand. People going there have just to consider that they are going to a house surrounded by the Bornean Rainforest, so if you are scared by having cicadas or grasshoppers flying around the lights maybe going to Borneo is not your kind of holiday. I hope that the future of Mulu will be more with homestays like Mulu Village and less with resorts like the close Marriot, which I think personally is very superfluous in that kind of environment. I repeat, if you want the swimming pool there is no need to look for it in the Bornean forest, isn't it? For this, we greatly appreciated the simple philosophy of the Mulu Village, which with the essentials gives the visitor an unforgettable experience and a more intimate link with the place compared to other kinds of accommodations. We also found a very good surprise: Now the electricity regularly arrives at the Mulu Village, so there is the 24h disponibility of electricity and is also possible to pay with cards, reading the old comments we were prepared to find only 6 hours of electricity and the possibility to pay only with cash, but now not anymore! I suggest this place to anyone who wants to visit the Mulu National Park and I really hope to come back one day (We didn't do the Pinnacles trail, so I have an excuse).
