Everything you need as a backpacker. Great beds, activities, good space to chill and hang and retreat to yourself, and everything is very clean. Also staff consists of other travelers, so overall atmosphere is great.

Wow. Best hostel I’ve experienced in Malaysia- by a LONG WAY. Amazing staff and interesting fellow travellers to share stories and ideas with in three areas to socialise: the downstairs work/eating area, the rooftop kitchen and table, and the rooftop seating area. A beautiful spacious modern building perfectly situated in the historic old city. For me, a big YES was the crisp clean air in the soundproof 36-bed mixed dormitory, the spacious downstairs workspace, the big clean showers and toilets, and the suitably equipped kitchen on the rooftop for making own meals and saving some cash on my 10 week trip through Malaysia. Cold and hot drinks water on tap at two dispensers. An army of staff and volunteers were constantly at work keeping the floors spotless. Brilliant management of making the stay comfortable, clean, and safe. Kudos to all involved. Large two-shelved lockers outside the dorms made keeping things tidy easier. Excellent value for money. I am highly unlikely to try anywhere else if I am in Penang again. An 11/10!

The shower/toilet area was noticeably warmer without aircon but totally acceptable considering how expensive aircon is financially and to the environment. The shower tiles were shiny and slick. I wonder about user safety when wet.

I love the place. They have a very chill vibe when you come back for a day activities you can take some rest at the common area. WiFi is good , I can work here remote too. Recommended

The dorm is spacious. Everything is clean and comfortable. The staff is nice and helpful.

It is a great hostel, great staff and facilities. There are lockers, place to hang clothes to dry, multiple bathrooms and toilets. It is clean. There is also a working room. The dirm is big but was quiet. The beds feel private enough with the curtains. The AC works well. The temperature in the dorm was ideal not too cold. The hostel organizes many activities as well

Facilities are awesome! Air conditioning room, well equipes bathrooms and showers. Social hall is fine, you can play with the car as well! And the terrace is cool!

Good location, walking distance to many popular spots. Staffs are friendly and they have a very very cute cat. And they also have movie nights, very interesting activities

I think its a bit dim in the dorm at the bed i mean.

This was my first time staying in a hostel, and honestly, Some Place Else exceeded every expectation—it was even better than staying at a hotel. The entire space is modern, clean, and clearly designed with love and attention to detail. As a solo traveler, I often feel a bit lonely on the road, but that wasn’t the case here. The hostel offers social activities every night, making it super easy to meet people. I made friends by my second night! It’s truly a great place to connect with other travelers from all over the world. The beds were comfortable and spotless, with great lighting and excellent air quality. Bathrooms and showers are ALWAYS clean, with hot and cold water available around the clock. Despite the social atmosphere, the vibe was calm and relaxing when you needed downtime. I especially loved the co-working space, kitchen and rooftop—perfect spots to unwind alone or hang out with new friends. The location is also ideal, right in the heart of Georgetown. I’m already planning to come back just to stay here again. Can’t recommend it enough—Some Place Else is a gem!

It’s my first time staying in a hostel in Malaysia and this place has exceeded my expectations. Many fellow guests commented the same, that this was the best hostel they’ve ever stayed. There were activities at night, the staffs were super friendly and willing to share about the food, place, and sightseeing spots in Penang. This place felt like home and definitely will pay a visit again sooner or later.

It was well located

They were frustrated that I didn’t have 50 RM in cash for a deposit and wouldn’t accept card. I then went down the morning before checkout to book an extra night, I waited about 15 mins and no one was at reception. I returned later and booked the extra night, staff then came back to me and told me another person has also booked it online so I can’t have the room and would need to move into the mixed dorm. I found this strange as I was already in the bed so it would have been easier to cancel the girl online? Anyway I told them I will move hostels as I wouldn’t be comfortable to stay in a large mixed dorm. I am still waiting on my refund lol

The reception floor is spacious for people to chill out, they even had movie nights. The dormitory itself is also spacious and with windows.

I really loved the view from the dormitory, the friendly staff (I forgot her name—she's cute and wears glasses), and there was also one cute guy who sings Chinese songs so beautifully; I think he's one of the staff too. The environment was clean and quiet, and the rooftop view at night was amazing. It was also quite lively—there were a lot of activities happening at night, but I couldn’t join because I had my own plans. Overall, I loved it and wish I could’ve stayed longer! :)

Staff acted quickly when a guest bothered the whole room. Good location and great bathrooms.

The big dorm is not my vibe, go for the smaller ones less issues
