Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI deeply respect the local customs, but since the mosque was right next to the hotel, the 6 a.m. call to prayer was very loud and made it a bit difficult to sleep through the early mornings.
The hotel room and the location were excellent — truly outstanding in terms of comfort.

DenmarkWe had a room on the ground floor with a small terrace but the door was stuck and impossible to open. We managed to do that 2 people each time, but when I first asked the staff they said that it doesn’t work and that they’ll fix it next month. Also, it’d be nice if there was a mini fridge in the rooms.
Great location in the old part of the town, walking distance to almost every landmark and restaurant/bar in the center. Both A/C and fan are available in the room which is perfect, you can use the A/C during the day and fan during the nice so you won’t wake up sick!

United KingdomThe hotel has an Annexe. Originally we were given two rooms one in the main building the other in the annexe. To be in the same part of the hotel one of us did have to take a slightly smaller room than booked. But it was quickly sorted.
Really central

United KingdomVery close to mosque and morning prayers beginning at dusk - 5am in February and then are very loud from 6.30am - nice experience but if you were staying there a week, that would be an issue Only shampoo and body wash all in one No fridge in room so no milk storage - just coffee mate Incredibly touristy part of town which is wonderful if that's what you're looking for
Beautiful room in a great spot in town - very central Staff lovely and accommodating Incredibly comfortable bed - excellent bed linen and two pillows - one soft, one foam Safety deposit box too Nice decor in the room

United Arab EmiratesOur room was not on the ground floor and there is no elevator, so you'll have to carry your luggage to the floor above if your room is there. But there are only two floors so at most you're climbing one flight of stairs. This also I guess means not exactly accessible if you have a disability where stairs are a problem. I would recommend reaching out to the hotel and asking for a room in the lower level if that's the case. There's also a mosque very close so you can hear the prayers that happen couple times a day. I live in the Middle East so I'm kinda used to this, but early morning its definitely not how I personally want to wake up during a vacation.
Really good location within George Town. All the famous street arts are minutes away, and so are the jetties. Tons of food options nearby. I liked the theme. True to the hotel's name, the rooms are not numbered, and instead are named after spices, which is a nice touch. You cant wear footwear inside the hotel (you can wear socks), but that was completely ok because the hotel was pretty clean.

MauritiusCould have paid more attention to cleanliness. Poor lighting in the courtyard specially when we reach late night. A/C was dripping on the bed downstairs, luckily the space upstairs was adequate for our family. Poor lighting in the room
Location was ideal, walking distance to Penang road, little india, jetty, street arts, etc Property has a unique charm Local eateries close by, mosque accessibility was a real plus for us

MalaysiaWhen we arrived, front desk was unavailable, we rang the bell and no one attended to us for 10-15 minutes. We stayed for 4 nights and housekeeping was not offered, but we didn't request either. There is a club opposite the hotel, though sound proof was pretty well but you might see cars and rowdy people during late nights. For the amount we paid and the concept of the hotel, we thought it would be more spa-like, but the amenities were very minimal. We had the ground floor room but couldn't access the balcony/garden and outdoor seating directly outside our room, apparently it's accessible for other guests as well so we have to go the other way around to access it.
Spices was recommended by a couple friend and we really like the aesthetic and decor. The hotel is in the center of the heritage zone, 5 minutes walk to Armenian St and Jalan Kapitan Keling. It's also like coming back home after a whole day of exploring and walking in Penang. The swing-benches outdoors and indoors are definitely signatures of the hotel.

United KingdomWe were given a choice of rooms, the downstairs room we saw seemed a bit damp...(but the upstairs room was perfect).
Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Beautiful and comfortable communal area downstairs. Perfect location in the old town, could walk everywhere. Beautifully renovated hotel, tea and coffee always available to make, use of fridge for milk. We had an upstairs room which was nice and airy(high ceiling). Very comfortable bed. We faced the street but it was quiet. You could hear the call to prayers (at 6am) from the mosque, but that was fine...just part of being in Georgetown! All in all a great place to stay. Highly recommended.
