Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Nice to stay in a small independently run hotel with a dedicated small staff, who you can ask anything, from to recommending restaurants to arranging a service wash. They have great local knowledge and want you to get the best out of your stay. The place is relaxed and home like and full of history. You will be staying in a house that still has the intact original design of a 19th century Chinese shop-house, packed with objects from that time. Bathrooms small but you can get clean effortlessly with modern facilities. The You le Yuen is situated on the quietest end of Love Lane away from the bright lights and hustle which you can walk to in a couple of minutes but gratefully retreat from at the end of the evening.

United StatesThe carpet in the room was run down, the room was hot and took hours to cool down enough to be comfortable, the bathroom grouting looked moldy. There are two flights of steep stairs to get to the room. The staff will help you with luggage but be sure you can go up steep stairs. I didn't take breakfast.
The location, the charm of an old historical building

Australiaaircon wasn’t great, we had them two level room, and off bed had been downstairs, that would have been better. shower didn’t work when arrived, and butgun attachment was open- shower was fixed, but water kept leaking over bathroom floor.
nice room, in a fun part of town- close to fort Cornwallis and in a street with nightlife- which couldn’t be heard in our room. there is a nice communal area, but in reality no one uses it. staff friendly, but not super attentive. Lady kept pushing a tour they organise- despite us telling her we had a week, not 2 days.

GermanyMattress was super hard, tap in the bathroom was constantly dripping which was quite loud and as I had the room to the street it was a bit noisy. Only could sleep with ear plugs.

GermanyWe stayed in the north suite and the WiFi was not strong enough to reach there. Also there is a lot of noise from the street so one can only sleep with ear plugs. I guess the other rooms should much better in that regard though.
Very original place and the location is perfect. The hosts were very nice and helpful.

United KingdomThe stairs are steep although there is a landing after the first floor to rest if you have a heavy suitcase. The shower/ toilet room is small but functional . The room is a duplex and the entrance is on the second floor. The staircase down to the living room and shower room only has a handrail half of the way down and it can be tricky on the final section, especially as the wooden floor is polished.. There are no views from the room but this keeps it cool and peaceful.
Good location and an experience of staying in an authentic building full of character in the old town. Most places are easily walkable within 15 to 20 minutes. We had the room at the far back and it was very quiet and peaceful. I am a light sleeper and it was ideal. Jane was nice and welcoming. We would be happy to return but with lighter luggage!! Recommend for a great stay.

United StatesWifi would cut out from time to time, and was not very strong. Would also appreciate some complementary water in the room to avoid asking for it from reception.
Helpful staff and easy check-in; Jane was very accommodating to my late arrival. Very comfortable and quiet. The location is also away from the rest of the noise/activity on Love Lane, so it’s a great place to return to after a night out.

United StatesOur room on the street side was noisy as the owner warned us so avoid that one if possible or just bring earplugs and wear yourself out so you can sleep through whatever noise comes down the street. Wonderful place really.
The owner was very helpful and the property very authentic and beautiful. The location was perfect for exploring Georgetown and resting mid day.

AustraliaProviding a gluten free breakfast was challenging. Once we decided against add-on tours, i felt the host became less attentive.
The location was very convenient. Character-filled property. Comfortable room. Although close to a touristy part of Georgetown, the location was surprisingly quiet.
