How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewVery nice lodge at the Zambezi River. Comfortable accommodation, very good food at the restaurant, friendly and motivated staff. For people interested in birds, the river cruise along the Zambezi River is highly recommended.

Verified reviewThe lodge is situated next to a lake, the view was just stunning, the beds were comfortable and the chalets were unique with the glamping idea. The windows were like in tent. You feel if you are part of nature, but protected against insects. The decor was African and the theme fits in with the area. The food was delicious.

Verified reviewVery authentic Lodge with wonderful views over the lake everything was just gorgeous. It’s a small Lodge run by the owners which makes a lot of difference to us. The staff is very professional and friendly. Food was excellent and they were willing to make authentic Namibian food for us which is quite exceptional in most lodges.

There was a funny smell around our room, becoz of the rains, but the rooms were very clean and well kept. I would suggest doom be part of the room as we found a few spiders n big ones that was the most uncomfortable thing. Other than spiders very happy with the host and staff and the room
Thanks for the review. Unfortunately for guests, we have recently had a huge amount of rain, and it could have been a damp smell coming in from the gardens. Also with the rains, insects are finding ways to get into the rooms, even after we have gone in and sprayed. We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused. On another note, we have unfortunately seen that you did not find us value for money. First of all, you booked on a special discounted rate, and your booking included 2 children (6-12 yrs). On checking in, we noticed that one of them was not a child; she was an adult. Your rate included 2 children, for which we kindly let slide to not cause any issues.

Hi Maria We are very surprised at the tone of your review after YOU chose to stay. We would like to clarify what actually happened with your stay at our lodge as follows: 1. You were supposed to arrive the night before as per your booking, for which we had to mark as a No Show. Please note that we wavered the 100% cancellation fee on this. 2. You arrived the next day, for which we only had 2 rooms available. These were shown to you & from this you would have seen that there were no TVs in the rooms. 3. After seeing the rooms, you proceeded to strongly haggle over the rate, which was the discounted rate on b.com that YOU CHOSE for the previous night. You also disputed the fact that you had to pay the mere N$37 Government Tourism Levy as you were a "Registered Namibian Business." 4. After inspecting the rooms and much discussion about the rate, YOU still CHOSE to stay. 5. Regarding the WIFI, it was explained to you while checking in that this facility is only available in the public areas. 6. Regarding the shower water, this is from a borehole that can sometimes be brownish due to low water levels. This is explained to you in the room folders in the room that YOU CHOSE to stay in. 6. Regarding the electrical outlet not working, it was a simple rectification of placing the plug into the wall. My husband immediately sorted this out for you. We feel that you only wrote such a critical review as you are holding a grudge against us for not discounting the rate any further. We would also like to mention that nothing we did seemed to please you even though YOU had the OPTION not to stay with us. That being said, we are pleased to see that the staff received a decent score as they work hard to ensure that all our guests have a comfortable stay. regards Zina (Owner)
