How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The location is confusing. The address on booking.com is not the same with the main location. It took us time before we could locate it and we pay more for the cab.

Verified reviewThe property was clean, which was a definite highlight of my stay. The attention to cleanliness made for a comfortable and hygienic environment.
While the property was clean, my overall experience was unfortunately far below expectations due to numerous issues that need urgent attention. The customer service and communication were lacking. When I reported that the shower on the third floor had no water pressure, the staff advised me to boil water in a kettle and bathe using a bucket, I thought that was unreasonable for a paid accommodation. Equally frustrating was the discovery of a policy prohibiting outside food deliveries (such as pizza), which was only mentioned on a sign at the gate and not disclosed on the booking site. Transparency about such restrictions is essential for guests to make informed decisions. The facilities were unreliable and inconvenient. The electricity kept turning on and off, and the internet connection was so unstable that I couldn’t work. Additionally, there was no elevator, making it difficult to access the third floor with luggage. The in-house taxis provided were old, uncomfortable, and lacked air conditioning, which was disappointing for transportation needs. The complimentary breakfast was extremely poor, forcing me to eat elsewhere. The location was also problematic, tucked away in an inconvenient part of Lugbe, the property was hard to locate by the airport taxi. For this property to meet basic hospitality standards, improvements must be made in several key areas: stable utilities (electricity, water pressure, and Wi-Fi), better guest communication (clear policies upfront), and upgrades to amenities (transport, breakfast quality, and ideally an elevator). With these changes, the stay could be much more comfortable for future guests.

We do, however, wish to address several points raised in your review. Our team made every effort to ensure your stay was comfortable, including offering prompt assistance and clear communication throughout. The payment dispute you mentioned stemmed from a minor currency conversion difference based on the official rate at the time, and we were transparent in our calculation. On utilities, we understand how frustrating network and water supply issues can be. Unfortunately, internet stability is an ongoing infrastructure challenge across many parts of Nigeria. That said, we currently use one of the country’s most reliable providers, and we remain committed to optimizing service as much as possible. Water pressure on the upper floor may vary during peak usage, but our staff always offer practical support when needed. We’d also like to clarify that we do allow food deliveries, including pizza, and many of our guests enjoy this convenience regularly. However, as we operate a restaurant in-house, meals that are also available on our menu are not permitted to be brought in from outside — a standard policy in many hotels. This is clearly stated on-site and also at the frontdesk, which is clearly visible upon check-in, and we are working to make it more visible in online listings for better clarity. Our in-house transport is a well-maintained vehicle with air conditioning, suitable for short trips and airport runs. We understand that personal preferences differ, but the vehicle is neither old nor substandard. Regarding breakfast, we serve a complimentary offering that is modest but fresh, and we’re always looking at ways to enhance variety where possible. Lastly, while we currently do not have an elevator, our staff are always available to assist guests with luggage or special needs. We take every review seriously, and while it’s unfortunate that your expectations weren’t fully met, we hope future guests will also consider the many positive experiences reflected across our reviews. But the service is poor. There is no common drinking water for customers. Must we buy water in the hotel which was also costly.and food and water are not allowed into the hotel

The water stopped working several times during our eight-hour stay. When there was water, it never got hot, despite turning on the water heater 30 minutes before showering. Stained sheets. Moldy shower. Fire alarm that would beep for about 15 minutes every time the power went out — and it went out a lot. Apathetic staff. Rock hard bed and pillows. Quite possibly the worst hotel we have experienced in over 140 countries.

However, we take your comments seriously and will investigate the concerns raised about stained sheets and the shower. Power outages, while sometimes unavoidable in Nigeria, are managed with our backup generators, which typically activate within one to two minutes. We are also working to resolve the fire alarm beeping issue during outages to minimize any disturbances. We value all guest feedback and are continuously working to enhance our services.
