How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWelcoming staff at check-in.
Cleaning staff needs an eye check. This is the dirtiest place we have ever slept in. Sadly enough we had alredy paid before we entered the room. You have to climb a steep and narrow staicase to get to your room. Yes, you have a private bathroom, but toilets (also dirty) are shared with everyone on your floor. There is a water heater in the room, but what has it been used for? The plastic cups were alredy used. The beds... I think the sheets were clean. Duvets smelled of perfume. The floors were not vacumed or cleaned. The walls have mysterous spots, and the curtains are about to fall off. Our advice: If you come by car, sleep in it!

Verified reviewIt's a great location, very friendly staff and a great price
The room smelled muffy. The bathroom smelled like sewage and we could also smell it in the room. Apart from that, it had an unpleasant smell that we couldn't really pinpoint, just a general stuffiness. It cleared up after opening the window and turning on the fan, and at some point you get used to it, but still it wasn't a pleasant experience. The sheets were clean, but we had the impression the floor hadn't been vacuumed in a while. Another point of frustration was that the curtain rail was broken, so the curtains didn't close.

Verified reviewThe staff was very kind and gentle. Having my own key allowed me to have the freedom to come and go on my own time. There were few restaurants close by and view of the wind mill was nice.
It was super dirty. That was the bad part of it. The floor was super dirty, the curtains and inside part of windows were dusty. I am not sure if the bed was clean, there was hair on the bed sheets, but they did not smell badly. Even that was not allowed to smoke inside the building, there was a strong smell of smoke in the hall. I didn’t find a fan and the room was hot at the end of the day which made a little bit harder to sleep well. I understand being a simple room specially because of the value of money, but the dirty part was complicated.

Verified reviewThe hospitality was excellent, we were welcomed warmly by some lovely guys, Hank, Linda, Robin and Wout - they really looked after us. They also let us keep our bikes inside at night to keep them safe and Robin let us in in the morning to get them out which he didn’t have to do. The rooms were also a decent size and well equipped, we slept well.

Verified reviewNothing good here, unless you're absolutely strapped for cash – but even then, I don’t think it’s worth it. Just pay a bit more and go somewhere better.
The room was not clean at all – coffee cup stains, dead flies… clearly not taken care of. The stairway is super steep and narrow, so if you’re carrying bigger luggage, good luck – you’ll need it. There's only a shower in the room, and the bathroom is shared with like 10 other rooms. The shower itself takes a ton of fiddling and patience to even get hot water. The beds are on wheels and just slide around for no reason. They “provided” coffee and tea in the room, but one instant coffee was already opened, and so was a tea bag… which tells me no one even checked after the last guest. It’s not even about the coffee – it’s the principle. Just shows how little attention they pay to cleaning. One of the windows wouldn’t close all the way, so we had a constant cold draft and no way to heat the room. Basically, froze all night with cold air hitting us while trying to sleep. Total joke.

Verified reviewLocation is exceptional.
The facilities are in extremely bad shape. The carpet on the floor is extremely dirty. The rooms are very dirty, on the floor and on the walls. There is a very nasty smell on the air. The bedsheets are yellow. There is dust everywhere. The curtains barely shuf off the sun. The kitchen is basically a room for garbage, empty bottles and some boxes. There are holes on the walls. One of the windows in the room didn’t even close.

Verified reviewThe location is excellent for exploring Schiedam on foot. The beds were comfortable and there is a kettle in the room. Shower and basin in the room, with shared toilet a few doors down the hall.
The kettle could only be filled in the shared kitchen. The kitchen is no longer used as a kitchen, but as a store room for the owners and it was not clean. Steep, narrow stairs to the rooms.
