How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewKristiansand isn’t the kind of place you plan a pilgrimage to; it’s the kind of place you wash up in after rolling off a ferry from Denmark. Three minutes after docking in Hirtshals, you’re parked, checked in, and wondering whether you’ve landed somewhere beautiful or just another port town that survives on cruise ships and kebab joints. Turns out, it’s both. The Clarion Hotel Ernst fits right into that contradiction. On the surface, it’s a business hotel, built to swallow up bus tours and floating latrine crowds in bulk. Inside, the décor feels like a mash-up between corporate conference chic and someone’s idea of “luxury” straight out of Riyadh—gaudy, a little odd, but harmless enough. My room was fine. Not inspiring, not offensive. Clean, tidy, with a view that promised the harbor but delivered an office building across the street. The marketing shots oversell it, but hey, what else is new? The real perk was downstairs: safe parking for the bike. That mattered more than the thread count of the sheets, because Kristiansand after dark has its fair share of riffraff. But once I ditched the helmet and walked the waterfront, I realized this town had some charms. I stumbled into a marina-side restaurant that was pouring Aperol spritzes like water and serving seafood that reminded me why coastal Scandinavia is worth the detour. Sunshine, good fish, cold beer, and too many Aperols—suddenly, the beige hotel room didn’t matter. Morning came easy: grab a croissant and a coffee around the corner, fire up the engine, and get out of town. Kristiansand is beautiful, sure, but it’s not a linger-and-soak-it-all-in kind of place. It’s a stopover, a launch pad, a place where you spend one night, not three. So the Clarion? It does its job. No more, no less. A safe bed, a place to stash the bike, and a reminder that sometimes the real hotel experience happens once you step outside its doors. Rating: 3.5/5 – Not memorable, not regrettable.

Verified reviewBreakfast, as usual at Clarion. Breakfast is always a good point for the Clarion brand.
The hotel in general is not up to the same standards as other Clarion scattered in Norway. Rooms, deco, lounge, and bar are more Quality standards than Clarion (IMO).

Verified reviewVery friendly and helpful staff.
Strange configuration of rooms and hallways. Stairs and ramps in odd locations- made it difficult to move luggage from lobby to room.

Verified reviewBreakfast not outstanding. But ok.
The room temperature was a horrible 25 degrees. The hallway temperature was working. No functioning climat control in the room. We heard in the morning at the reception desk that we should have asked for a plugin ventilator. Wtf.😒😒. A pet friendly room if your pet is a lizzard. Never again.

Why the toilette didn't have a switch and it only had a motion sensor? Breakfast and dinner times finishing too early.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was excellent and the location was good.
The room was a bit tacky and quite tired, repairs in the bathroom were sloppy making it seems less clean than it probably was. The view was extremely uninteresting but worse was the price - if you pay for or five star prices you expect just that sort of level and this was not. I usually find Clarion hotels to be good value this was far from it.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We appreciate you highlighting both the positive and areas where we can improve. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed our excellent breakfast and found the location to be good! We apologize that the room did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns about the room's condition, including the stickiness, wear, and the quality of the bathroom repairs. We strive to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and quality, and we will address these issues with our maintenance and housekeeping teams to ensure improvements are made. We also regret that the view was uninteresting and that you felt the price did not reflect a five-star experience. We continuously review our pricing to ensure it aligns with the value and experience we aim to provide. Your feedback is valuable in helping us assess this. We hope you will consider staying with us again in the future, giving us an opportunity to provide you with an experience that better reflects the standards you expect from a Clarion hotel. Sincerely, Annika
