Absolutely nothing!

A truly lovely old hotel, in an amazing location. The room was small but perfectly formed and bright and cosy! The bathroom again was small, but the shower was excellent, and the toiletries provided were lovely. The bed was very comfortable. The welcome from Synna( sorry if I've misspelt it) was just fabulous. She accompanied us in the car to the parking spot and was so friendly and helpful.The hotel also provided food and drinks in the lobby on an honesty basis ( you wrote down anything you had) and free filter coffee was provided for guests. There were also facilities to prepare a basic meal ( microwave and air fryer) as well as plates and cutlery. The breakfast was excellent and in a beautiful room in a cafe a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Old Fredrickstad was also beautiful. The icing on the cake was finding that Thursday night was jazz night in Tamburen , a local bar. Also, for the unique location, it was excellent value.

- nothing much to do I'm Friedrikstad and the old town is really small... But of course it's not the hotel's fault... - parking is a bit convoluted and not next to the hotel, but again they have no other option

It was nice that there was a breakfast nook around the corner, but the selection for the price seemed very high.

I did enjoy the quiet and charming location and the overall experience was wonderful. I stayed in the upstairs suite and it was very clean, updated, and cozy.

A lovely, simply decorated and furnished room with everything I needed, very much in keeping with the historic hotel building and "Old-Town" Fredrikstad location. Very handy for wandering round the old town and for the free ferry to Isegran and the newer town. Lovely patio on the property. Good breakfast buffet in another building just around the corner - awesome furnishings in that room! Free parking was a bonus. Friendly, helpful staff : )

Location was perfect for visiting Fredrikstad, breakfast was good though not included in initial price and taken in a separate establishment maybe 150 m from the hotel

Gamlebyen is the (small) old town (1600 or so) within Fredriikstad. On Saturday busy with day tourists. The hotel is fully in style of the old town, yet very comfortable. Good breakfast facilities (Vaerk) and plenty of restaurant available.

Our ground-floor room was a bit too intimate for comfort, with window and door opening straight onto the outdoor seating area. Pretty expensive for what was on offer.

Nothing to dislike

Perfect location, friendly staff, OK breakfast (additional cost), good shower, a lovely single room. The old town, the one-minute free ferry to the Fredrikstad city, the museum, the cobbled streets, walls and moats.

I think the problem was a difference in understanding about the term ‘hotel’. In the uK it suggests somewhere which provides food - breakfast and dinner. In Norway it can mean that it simply is a place to overnight. There is no dinner or breakfast here though they have an arrangement with a cafe next door. And although we went in June it was definitely outwith the tourist season. Lots of places closed.

Very cold room (experienced the same when I was there last year.) Very worn wallpaper with lots of dirty marks and big moist marks. Lots of noise in the night.

There are very few shops/restaurants in this part of town, particularly late at night or early in the morning. A lot of shops open at 11am, and having arrived to the property at around 22.30pm after travel, we went without food for the evening. Most activity is around the new town, but if you’re into your history and peace/quiet this is probably perfect for you!

Stayed in the suite, really liked the privacy feel, given we were in the out-house style section of the hotel. Nice living space and comfortably slept 4 adults, which we were initially worried about.
