I recently stayed at Daali Hotel & Apartment in Thamel with my elderly parents, and I must say—it was one of the most heartwarming experiences we’ve had on our travels. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine smiles and exceptional service. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed for both comfort and ease—something I truly appreciated while traveling with my parents. What made our stay truly special was the hospitality of the staff. A special thank you to OLY, Pranam, and Doma—your kindness, attention to detail, and warm gestures meant the world to us. You treated us not just as guests, but like family. My parents were deeply touched by your care and it made our Kathmandu trip even more memorable. If you’re visiting Kathmandu and looking for a place that feels like a home away from home, Daali Hotel & Apartment is the one. Perfect location, peaceful ambiance, and the kindest team you’ll ever meet. Highly recommended! 🙏

Breakfast could have been better with a live cooking counter, and more options on the buffet.

Very friendly and hospitable staff. I had some trouble with cash on the first day of my stay. They were very generous and loaned me some cash and agreed to let me pay by checkout. Will never forget their kindness.

Not a single thing was wrong

The staff are incredible. They are friendly, extraordinary helpful and kind and lovely to talk to. The breakfast is insane value, a great buffet spread every morning with tea, coffee and eggs your way. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and clean and the shower was a perfect pressure. The wifi was strong, the location is excellent. I honestly couldn’t rate this place highly enough. Huge shoutout to the owner and the bar/restaurant staff who took care of us. Worth every cent of the stay.

    --

We stayed at this hotel twice – at the beginning and end of our trip to Nepal – and had a great experience both times. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Although the street outside was quite busy during the day, it was surprisingly quiet at night, allowing for a restful sleep. One of the highlights was the breakfast – it was by far the best we had during our stay in Nepal, with a great variety and excellent quality. We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel and spent some relaxing evenings with drinks at the bar. Overall, a great place to stay in Kathmandu – comfortable, well-located, and with excellent food and service. Highly recommended!

The electricity kept getting disconnected to the hotel at some times. When that happened, the hotel lift didn't work and we had to walk up. The AC and TV and lights all stopped when the electricity went away. Hotel staff worked to fix this promptly. The morning breakfast selection could be a bit more varied.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, and the bathroom was excellent. The hotel is located right in the heart of Thamel, and travelling to the various temples and museums in Kathmandu is very easy. There are plenty of good quality restaurants nearby and the nightlife is quite lively. Breakfast was fresh, and coffee was great. The room service menu was delicious. Very nice hotel for its location and price.

The room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was luxurious, the staff were great and they helped us during and even after our stay. They stored our luggage after the check out while we toured the city. The tour manager was great as well, he helped us with the booking and then rescheduling of flight tickets to Pokhara.

The only downside is that this hotel is very, very loud at night. The walls are thin and everyone is coming and going at all hours of the night and don’t seem to mind the quiet hours. We hardly slept the two nights we spent here.

The staff were amazing and attentive, can’t say enough nice things about the people working here! The breakfast buffet was amazing, I would visit again just for the breakfast. Location is good.

I liked the room as it was big and spacy, however the water in the shower was burning hot and I could not manage to get the cold water in. I liked the food and restaurant facilities, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I wish the reception area could have been bigger. In all, I liked the hotel very much, the staff was very helpful with our vegetarian meals, so thank you for everything.

(This is a continuation of what I like - from above - as there's nothing I didn't like). Pranam, whose mindset and English belie a person of his age. I remember a funny incident with Pranam, who helped lug my bags to a waiting taxi. As the Nepalese numerical system is coded in their own language, I couldn't work out the taxi number plate so I asked Pranam's help. "Sorry," he said sheepishly, "I can't read it either." LOL And there's Bikash, with whom I enjoyed speaking over breakfast very much. And Rinzen, quieter but professional nonetheless. It makes you wonder, 'Are all Nepalese like this?' Regardless of its provenance, one thing that can't be denied is that this shows in every staff we met. And the person who's had the biggest hand in all of this - in the way that makes you want to return to Daali - is Mr. Kanchan Gurung, the owner. He knows his stuff and disclosed the philosophy behind the human interface at Daali which he worked so hard to finetune and refine. What a legend. As I fear there's not much space left, and this platform will cut my speech short, I'd better summarise it here. Daali - you have my heart in Kathmandu. And all of you thus named, you'll always be in my heart wherever I am. And I will be back, and hopefully Skrina will be there to greet us as always. Pictures to follow: (If the pictures don't show up in this review, kindly adjourn to my profile and the pictures in all their glory will be there). 1st Picture, left to right: Mr. Kanchan Gurung, the author looking resplendent in red, my partner Carol, Aliza, Skrina (the face and heart of Daali), Rinzen, Bikash. 2nd picture, left to right: The author looking like a right heartthrob in black, Bikash, Carol, Aliza, Doma. Sadly, handsome boy Pranam was missing in action when both photos were taken. Word on the street has it he only appears on pictures for a fee. Well, a fee and dhal bhat.

As a frequent traveller to Nepal, Daali has mostly been my temporary Thamel postcode. Tucked in the quieter part of Thamel and camouflaged by other shops, Daali has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it location. But its off-street obscurity contrasts with its conspicuous warmth, and that's where Daali truly shines. Helmed by the impeccably dressed and effervescent Skrina, we're always greeted the way family who haven't caught up for years finally reunite. With her black rimmed glasses and a 1000-watt smile, Skrina - the face of Daali - drops her professional hat, gives us a hug, and out comes the conversations and laughter, thick with stories, tales and laughter where we get up to speed with her life and she with ours. That sets the tone for a stay, as they say, where everybody knows your name. We usually book a quieter room to get a better sleep and so far Skrina has always met our request; the kind soul she is, knowing our flight to Kathmandu has been long and the baggage reclaim at Kathmandu Airport longer. The rooms are a bit tight but modern; someone there has an eye for detail and details are eye catching. Soft lightings, fluted panels, warm earthy tones all conspire to make you feel at ease, at once. Breakfast the following morning is set on the 1st floor restaurant. Natural sunlight floods through the floor to ceiling windows, cosy chairs punctuate the floor, as the warmth of freshly cooked vegetables, eggs, potatoes and muffins marinate the air with a sense of familiarity. Aliza greets us with her bubbly cheerfulness and remembers me from an earlier trip and immediately we start to catch up. She offers coffee but for me, it's massala tea or the highway baby. Aliza is a ray of sunshine and it's always lovely to catch up with her. Meanwhile Doma takes our orders and I'm immediately struck by the sincerity in her voice, her eyes and mannerisms.

Only thing was the toilet blocked for us during our stay but they fixed it super quickly. The fridge also made some clicky noises which was a bit annoying but didn’t hinder our stay.

Really spacious room with super hot powerful shower! The breakfast was also delicious - especially the cappuccino which was divine. A special mention must go to the staff who were always happy to help, polite and attentive. The WhatsApp service was particularly a bonus. They also helped organise taxis and tours which took away the stress of booking. We would highly recommend this great value for money hotel in Thamel.
