The cost is good and the bed is confortable.

The pictures didn't match with the place. It said that the breakfast was included but it was not and the kitchen was not good for use. The common areas were pretty dust. I felt I had no privacy because to get into the house you have to wake up the old sir that takes care of the place, so I felt worried about timing. Also I woke up in the morning and someone was standing outside of my window. I booked for 5 nights and stayed only one. I could not get my money back because the payment was through credit card.

    Property response:

thanks for your special review. so cheap high expectations. glad you you found better then our property. keep surfing....... namaste

The owner is bothered to offer you a good western-style breakfast (which was included as Genius benefit). Hot water for shower is available at any time. Shared kitchen with refrigerator. Free (filtered) water dispenser at your disposal. The owner shares additional snacks with you as if you're a regular member of his family. The owner gave me some (electric) insect repellent after I told him about the many mosquitoes in my room. The mattress is really – as stated by others before – firm, but in my opinion it isn't worse than sleeping on a closed-cell foam pad. Still in an acceptable walking distance to Kathmandu.

Moisture in the walls, so that the rendering + wall color comes off at severeal points. I also noticed the smell of mould (fungi) in my room. My room had kind of a selfmade window which couldn't be opened easily for ventilation. The cleanliness / maintenance in general was not good: kitchen, sink dirty; lattice door rough-running. The front door was locked every evening I arrived from a day trip (around 8.30 pm) – the owner came down immediately to open it each time, but I felt uncomfortable to come back any later. And he then locked the door, so I was wondering what to do in case of emergency at night (fire)... At first the owner wanted to charge me a higher price than was quoted on booking.com which amount he also showed me on his booking.com app, but we got this clarified. (I still mention this as a negative point, because I believe he should have known at which line to look from earlier bookings – except for he has always charged the wrong amount?) There were many many mosquitoes in my room – even after I killed 5 or 6 I still got a lot of bites in the first night – and also in the bathroom. It's a bit far from Kathmandu (about 1:45h walking distance to Shanti Sewa Griha). The address stated on booking.com is wrong! When you come from Kathmandu the real position of this homestay will be about half an hour more of walking. Be careful relaying on Google Maps to navigate there – many roads are listed which are not existing and the owner wasn't helpful with finding his location. Some local guy who wanted to help me even asked for his number and called him. He was only telling him to use Google Maps. Almost the same when I wanted to leave that place on my day or departure: The owner had even asked me about my next destination and I showed him on Google Maps. He didn't consider necessary to explain the only way out of their village to head South.

It’s a nice house overall and the shower was hot. Facilities were clean and it’s good that breakfast, teas, coffees and water refill is included in the price. Host was friendly and talkative.

Honestly, it is just too far away. Being a tired traveller after trekking, the last thing I want to do is walk an hour from where I’m staying to Durbar square every time I want to visit the centre, and then have to walk an hour back. I was having to use Patao taxi’s and even the drivers struggled to find the homestay, plus the fare’s really add up after each trip. The centre is super busy so it’s nice to take breaks from the crowds where you’re staying, but I felt like I didn’t have this option staying somewhere so far away. Also, my bed was the hardest I’ve experienced in Nepal, and I was staying in the mountains for 2.5 weeks. My back was so stiff the next day as it was too uncomfortable. A duvet to soften the mattress would have helped.
