How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

great location, big room, the family was really nice, they helped me with a ticket for the bus to pokhara and even brought me to the bus station. would recommend!

There is no Shower Head. Overall cleanliness should be improved. Many Steps up and down. Breakfast is just basic.

We had a really nice stay at Rambler hostel. Shalik and his wife are really kind hosts and always there to help or answer your questions. The shower is very good (hot water, good pressure) and the bed is super comfortable. Very good, central location. We would definitely stay here again!

Super friendly and extremely helpful host, very close to everywhere in Kathmandu - a bit noisy at night, but still much quieter than the rest of Thamel; and a superb price to quality ratio - breakfast included, with great views of the city from the rooftop ;)

As it's a central location, lots of outside noise which can't be helped. No toilet paper or soap, but it's cheap, so I suppose you get what you paid for. No way to lock the door when you leave the room so anyone can get in, especially as there is no staff.
Central location in Thamel, very nice family, spacious room. Quiet hostel (inside). Good value for the price.

You may need to climb a bit.
Excellent location, close to everything, very good value. Free towel, complementary breakfast even if you leave early.

Some problems with the wifi
The owner is the best, he will help you with all that you need! Advice for everything always available to help you! They make laundry at the same hostel, breakfast included or available. Terrace on the top to have breakfast under the sun. Sometimes is not about how is the bed, is more about how is the people that works on it and they are an amazing and kind family. Is very good located! They have available 24h check-in so if your flight or bus arrives at night don’t worry the owner will be there to accommodate you :)

No hot water and the shower was a pipe - no shower head.
The location is good for Thamel. The bed was really comfortable. Simple basic breakfast. Cheap.

Well located, for instance if you want to go to Swayanbunath temple by foot. Comfort is basic and the common areas are not that vast but it is very satisfactory for the price. It's nice to have a simple breakfast on site too on the terrace. And Shalik the owner has proven to be a reliable and attentive host.

The first night I stayed, two men were playing movies on their computer in the dorm. I called the owner, and he explained that this wasn't permitted, so it was taken care of.
Simple and nice breakfast. Central location. Close to restaurants. Very helpful and kind owner, he gave me some recommendations, arranged bus ticket to Pokhara.

Charging sockets , all broken, need to balance your phone with a cushion to charge phone. Hot water seldom on.

As the hostel is on a street full of shops, people start their day right after the sunrise which means it gets noisy early in the morning.
Like the first time I was there, I enjoyed the friendly and helpful family running the hostel, the location, the top roof space, and, privacy in the room.

The shower was missing a part and it was just a single jet of water. Also, the toilet was a bit dirty.
I liked the family-like atmosphere, the roof top restaurant, the location and the quietness of the bedroom.
