Beautiful location and amenities, really let down by their restaurants

The food was surprisingly hit and miss. The 5 course degustation was so disappointing and the casual dinner menu was not much better. The breakfast was good and view is hard to beat.

The staff were amazing and the location was spectacular!

Bay of Many Coves: a jewel of a luxury resort!

    Everything was perfect!

The resort Bay of Many Coves lies hidden away in a bay by the same name in the Queen Charlotte Sound part of the spectacular Marlborough Sounds. It is a jewel, truly a luxury resort very well worth the price. Amazing attention to detail showed up in all areas, from the comfort of the apartment to the nightly turn-down service to the availability of little snacks all day long and much more. The staff was friendly and sociable and very capable of sensing when some assistance would be helpful. I especially appreciated the gentle attention I received during mealtimes - which is important to a solo traveler. Which brings me to the meals! Breakfast was delicious and offered many choices while the evening meals were just superb. I had signed up for the 5 course package and was impressed with every dish: flavor, variety, presentation, use of local products when possible ... Michelin worthy! Bay of Many Coves also has some wonderful trails to explore. The view from their Lookout Point is well worth the steep climb (the resort provides hiking poles: take them along). I also checked out a kayak one day and enjoyed exploring the bay and checking out the Pied Shags (karuhiruhi - cormorants) in their nests, feeding their almost grown chicks. I had an unforgettable 3 days stay!

the only walk from the property was up a very steep and uncomfortable hill . the meals were so expensive that we skipped dinner on the third night and there is literally nowhere else to go to pick up supplies.

stunning views. immaculate and luxurious property. the staff were outstanding.

We had looked forward to using the pool but it was nothing more than a paddling pool for children, constantly occupied by parents sunbathing while their children played. We would happily sunbathed on our balcony but it had a perspex roof. There were sun beds in public areas but again all taken up by families. Food was a set 5 course affair, which on our first night despite attentively asking our preferences ( one vegetarian/ pescatarian, one meat eater) we were completely forgotten for an hour after the first two courses then the main came we were served two meat dishes. It took 2 hrs & we were last out that night. Sadly these mistakes happened daily- the staff were all lovely & keen to help- but apparently lacked any kind of training for a so called 5 star restaurant.

We had wonderful views and a large balcony with delightful Tui birds inhabiting a nearby tree. Breakfast was inside or out on the same terrace they served lunch from. The walk up to the Lookout was well worth doing and we enjoyed kayaking too.

Food and service were only satisfactory. Pool needs updating. Casual approach by staff the constant use of ‘no worries’ when asked to clear away plates etc. Staff forgot to service room. Menu very strange. Not the standard of service expected with this high price.

Location was sensational. Great arrival by boat & wonderful greeting from Manager Rianne. Apartments fabulous.

The rooms and pool area are dated and have great potential for improvement given the setting. The hotel also lags behind other top class hotels in terms of the special touches. For example there was no welcome drink on arrival and there was no acknowledgement that we were there for our honeymoon.

The staff, food and location are the real plus points for this hotel. The staff are super welcoming and friendly, the food is of a very high standard and the location is stunning. We also have to give a special shout out to the spa. Our massages were fantastic!
