How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Would stay again when I revisit my home town .A Methven girl through and through. 🥰
It was quaint . Never before have I stayed in accomodation like this as an 80 year old woman and I enjoyed talking to the other guests and learning why they were in Methven.

The bed was too soft for my liking and the room was quite narrow for big suitcases. The light in the room was quite low and the window blinds were not working well.
Great communication with the property- we arrived late, informing them in advance we're coming late at night and they were kind enough to accept us. No fuss over check in or check out procedures, pretty laid back. Towels provided, heater in the room, fire place in the living room, free parking place, laundry, plenty of dishes and utensils in the kitchen. In general it felt as if you were visiting someone at their home rather than a hostel/hotel, which was nice. The owner was very kind to provide information about places to see on our way. Thank you!

Beds probably need new mattresses but still had a good night sleep, was good for one night passing through.
Good location, quiet, guy who runs it was very nice.

The beds were a bit soft We didnt meet the owner as he was out but another guest was helpful at the start with information etc. As the evening wore on he became a bit annoying as liked to hold the fort in the communal area
just what we needed for our 1 night stay, like the quirkiness of the place

Beds could be better, less soggy for the back.
Good place with relaxed Hostel vibes, warm fire with a super cozy lounge. Close to bars, restaurants and shops. Management were helpful and welcoming.

I really like the backpackers life and the share room were really good there. Good location on the way to Christchurch.

The kitchen is quite small, not well equipped, and it could be cleaner. The lounge is quite old fashioned and was a bit cold when I was there. Only a couple of people when I was there so not very sociable.
Quiet place with separate beds in the dorms rather than bunk beds, bathrooms are new and clean

everything is quiet old in the lodge except the showers. A lot of things should be fixed, cleanliness is not the best
I felt comfortable and I enjoyed my stay there. staff was nice and friendly, fire place in the kitchen and living room, free eggs. close to the mountains for skiing and hiking.

Smelly and untidy room. Hairs on the bed sheets. Cables looked very unsafe. Very old furniture and substandard kitchen. Even if it's very cheap there's better value elsewhere.

The lodge appears to be operating like a backpackers with most occupants working at the ski fields. That's all fine but it should be advertised as such. Issues included scrunched up damp towels in the room tossed on the top of a built in cupboard where a very dusty television was located. Can only assume they'd been used by the previous occupant. No fresh towels to be found. The pillows smelt stale and are in need of replacement. Windows in the bedroom were extremely hard to close in the room, which wouldn't be an issue in the summer but not so great during the snow season. Immaculate rooms at an equivalent price are available at other locations in the centre of the township.
Location was fine and the building has an interesting history. The shared toilets were clean.

Very cold room, very small heater is not sufficient to heat up the room. The whole place needs more tidying up jobs to do. 2 separate single beds are just too small for us.
Free range egg 🥚🥚🥚 from the owner. Lots of tissues and towels accessible, no need to request.
